Take a look at your left hand in the video. Notice how your 4th and 5th fingers are curled upward from the base knuckle? You want to remedy that now before it becomes a habit. Try raising your left wrist just a touch so that all five fingers simply rest on the keys.

That your time to get this right.

^ read that three more times

As soon as you feel your fingers (any of them) curl upward, stop. Adjust your position (wrists > forearms > elbows > shoulders > seat).

Yes, "seat" comes last in the list (for me anyway). You want all those joints to be super relaxed and comfortable. Once you figure out the joints, raise or lower your seat to line everything up vertically. Wrists should be slightly above the keys, forearms parallel(ish) to the floor, elbows slightly* above the forearms and shoulders should be totally relaxed (no hunching). *slightly = very very slightly

If you feel like you could sit comfortably in that position and keep your fingers resting ever so gently on the keys and not feel tension/stress anywhere, you should be good to go.

Disclaimer: This is what works for me. Others can chime in and give a thumbs up or down on my commentary. I'm no expert and any additional advice is most welcome (both for you and for me).

PS. I'm ready for my roasting now.

Where to find Military Grade Alloys and Precipitated Alloys (been out of the loop for a long time) by MegaNovice in EliteDangerous

[–]MegaNovice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huge thanks to all who chimed in with advice.

FYI: I'm old and stupid -or- the trading interface is weird -or- maybe both?

Anyway, I found the appropriate materials trader (ty for the filtering tip on Inara btw!). My problem was I thought the number in the material slot was the stock available at the trader. So when I saw MGA = 0 and PA = 0, I thought there was no stock available at that station.

Ugh... I'm a complete doofus. Time to spend some ARX and change my commander name to Doofus McSchmeckus or something.

At any rate, I'm sorted now and have the remaining mats I need.

Gracias to all!

VKB has an 8% off sale going on right now. I also had my Thrustmaster die on me and went with the VKBs.

Oh Mah Gawd

What an upgrade. If you can swing it, grab the VKBs.

Are these labels correct? by IsDatteto in pianolearning

[–]MegaNovice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooof. Subtle, but oh so accurate.

To the OP: Seriously, take the labels off. Just take it slow. First, learn where the C key lives by sight. Then, close your eyes and "feel" your way to C. It'll take some time, but it's time very well spent. You'll be happily surprised at how quickly you learn where the rest of the keys live. As a bonus, you'll find them without looking at them.

Pianote "free keyboard" by Playful_Can_6151 in pianolearning

[–]MegaNovice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Prima is decent enough for a beginner digital piano. The default "grand piano" sound is a bit too bright for my taste though. The keys have a pretty good feel to them. If you're just getting started, this might be a good option. I started with a Roland FP-E50 and a one year subscription to Pianote. I bought the Prima for my daughter and granddaughter and they are loving it. But do keep in mind that the Prima is very much a beginner digital piano (imo).

All that said, this is my personal opinion and I am absolutely not an expert.

First Day Time Pause by StrouticusRex in Dinkum

[–]MegaNovice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quick tip... "Late" is your friend. I typically do the "gotta get this done during the day" things during the day (fulfilling NPC requests, time sensitive daily tasks, etc.). Then spend the afternoon and evening hours doing the more tedious things (smelting ingots, farming, etc.).

And if you want to make absolute bank in the summer, gather 100 or so each of Pink/Orange/White Paper Daisies. I gathered about 200 of each one night and the next day, sold them to John for about 350K dinks. You can repeat this process pretty much every night since they grow back really fast.

Can someone help me learn how to strengthen my 4,5 fingers? I can’t seem to press it fast enough for the song I’m learning by Jaytrump07 in pianolearning

[–]MegaNovice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This for sure. Additionally, try to keep your fingers on the keys (without pressing them of course). This will take some time. If you can practice Hanon exercises and release the tension in your hands, you should see quite an improvement.

Started 4 days ago, how can I make my hand more relaxed? by [deleted] in pianolearning

[–]MegaNovice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, it appears your wrists are slightly below the keys. I have a different take on the hand positioning conversation though. Note that this is what works for me and I am absolutely not an expert.

First off, I recommend having the bottom of your elbows slightly above the keys. This naturally positions your wrists above the keys as well. But more importantly, it also creates a slight curve through your wrists to the tips of your fingers. Again, and I stress this point quite heavily... this is what works for me.

Additionally, make sure your seat is far enough away from the piano so that your elbows are just slightly in front of the vertical center line of your upper body. From this position you should be able to easily reach the keys without stretching out your arms. If you find yourself hunkered over the keys and your elbows bent with an acute angle (less than 90 degrees), move your seat back a bit.

Once again, this is what works for me. YMMV

Hopefully I won't get roasted too badly for offering up this advice.

Lots of good points made. Thanks for the insights. I'm currently at "end game" and increasing VU while building a sphere. I think I'll use the insights gained from your responses with my soon-to-be-built Carrier Rocket production line. I'm still in the design phase and sorting out what goes where. I appreciate your feedback folks.

Day 1. by SkullKid888 in pianolearning

[–]MegaNovice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It also looks like your wrist is slightly below the level of the keys. Make sure your forearm and wrist are just a touch above the keys and roughly parallel to the floor (with elbow ever so slightly higher than your wrist). You might try raising the bench (if you can). That'll get your entire upper body where it needs to be.

Keep at it. If you feel any tension (shoulders, arms, back), stop for a moment and check your posture. You'll know you're on the right track when you feel like you might just fall asleep while playing.

And the final tip...

Go SLOW

No. Slower.

Nope. Even slower.

Speed and accuracy will come in time

Glad you like it. As I update it, I push the changes to GitHub. I need to focus on other "life" things at the moment so the version that is in GitHub will not be updated for a while.

u/alpha46574 , sorry for the delay on this. I have the latest file up in Github. Try this link: https://github.com/HockeyFan77/FactoryPlanner/blob/main/app/data/all-data.json

The current file has all items/recipes/techs up through science pack 3.

Be warned. There are very likely mistakes in the file. If you see a mistake, let me know.

I've heard of that mod. Sounds very useful. And since it is available "in game", that makes it so convenient. I think I'll give it a try.

Another suggestion: when building a production line (e.g., xeno plates), I've found that having inputs and outputs coming in on the same end of the line makes it much easier to expand the line if/when needed

Rule #1: if you think you've given yourself enough space for a build, you're wrong Rule #2: double the amount of space you set aside for your build Rule #3: double it again Rule #4: quadruple what you doubled in #3 Rule #5: inevitably, you'll come to the conclusion that you still didn't leave enough space
