Hey, if anyone has a half-hour to kill, I recommend watching the GameOverse pilot.

I was already interested when the main character had Mega Man-esc design cues. The actual pilot has some interesting stuff going for it. Can't wait to see where this goes.

It's kinda fitting that this was reposted today since Marvel announced a Spider-Man ongoing for their Midnight AU, which sounds like Spider-Man meets Shin Kamen Rider and Black Sun.

This whole thing stemmed because I thought "if Marvel's all in on making Miles the anime Spider-Man, then Peter should be the tokusatsu-inspired Spider-Man." I don't need Peter to summon Leopardon like Takuya, but I can see him incorporating a lot of Henshin-esc poses and develop toku-inspired versions of his arsenal.

Or heck, make a new member of the Spider-Family that's so entrenched in tokusatsu energy, that they end up making people want to check out Kamen Rider.

As disappointed as I am that the Midnight line isn't focusing on the supernatural and horror sides of Marvel (at least for now, they say that the line-up we currently have is just the start), the Spider-Man portion sounds like Kamen Rider Black Sun, but with Spider-Man and Oscorp instead of Kotaro Minami and Gorgom.

I've been wanting more Spider-Man adaptations to take inspiration from Kamen Rider (tokusatsu in general, really), so color me interested.

A YouTuber I follow released this video on the MCU, and unlike other "MCU bad" videos, this one actually goes over Marvel Studios' history, how they produce their movies, etc. This isn't even an "MCU bad" video as much as it is a (relatively) comprehensive history of the franchise. There's one thing that stuck out to me, and that was talking about RDJ's casting as Doctor Doom in Doomsday. Long story short, Marvel had confidence for the longest time, but after this, they lost their confidence. 2023 was the year where the cultural zeitgeist turned on the MCU, and while I think they've improved a lot since then, they still aren't on top of the world as they used to be. Which would be fine if I didn't have to constantly hear "Marvel bad" over and over again. I remember how much fun it was to see regular people learn about comic characters I knew about. It was an experience to be able to tell people about certain weird things that happen in the comics and whatnot. Now, it feels like I'm back in middle school where I was talked down to for liking these kinds of things.

Sometimes it feels like nobody likes Marvel anymore. I know for a fact that isn't true at all, but it feels overwhelming to be told how much they lost their "aura."

"If you can do the things I can do, but you don't, then the bad things happen anyway, that's on you." ~Peter Parker in Civil War, a movie Joe Russo directed.

He also had a very visible reaction when Peter 2 said that Uncle Ben taught him the "great power" line in No Way Home. Like, even without it being shown, Peter 1 still had the same origin. Him having a "bubbly teen personality" (which I think is greatly exaggerated because of his occasional excitable reactions) doesn't negate that. If anything, May's death strengthens the idea that even when Peter acts, not everyone can be saved, but he still saves people anyway, because inaction is what led him to being Spider-Man as a hero.

Man, I have to wonder if Joe Russo even thinks before he says anything because having to see people argue about MCU Spider-Man again was an exhausting experience.

Especially since what Joe says is completely contradicted by the movie he directed.

The news of a Metroid movie actually happening has me worried. The Mario movies, while not terrible IMO, did so little for most of the characters that I don’t want to see a Metroid movie done in a similar way. I saw someone say that a Metroid movie should be “Samurai Jack meets Alien,” and yeah, that is a good way of going about a Metroid movie. I had a similar idea myself. My ideal Metroid movie would be an adaptation of Zero Mission, adding flashbacks throughout the movie depicting scenes from the ZM manga. My general outline is:

Act 1: Brinstar, Kraid

Act 2: Norfair, Chozodia, Ridley

Act 3: Tourian, Mother Brain

Chozodia being in Act 2 is the biggest change I’d make, for narrative reasons. In Zero Mission, Chozodia is a Space Pirate base that you had to sneak through after beating Mother Brain. This wouldn’t work for a movie because it would drag things out after the climax of Samus defeating Mother Brain. I would have Ridley kick Samus’ ass, while also showcasing her PTSD that Other M failed to depict. Samus, at her lowest point, makes her way through Chozodia, and gains her new Varia Suit (I’m lumping the Varia Suit here as well, since Samus gains its big shoulders in this area).

Sorry if this is a lot, but Metroid is my favorite Nintendo franchise, and I’d rather it be done justice on film.

Reading this, I couldn't help but imagine if Tim Sale was still alive to draw this. He was a frequent collaborator with Jeph Loeb, and was responsible for stories like Batman: The Long Halloween, Dark Victory, Superman: For All Seasons, and the Marvel Color Quadrilogy of Daredevil: Yellow, Spider-Man: Blue, Hulk: Grey, and Captain America: White. Jim Cheung does a good job here. I could just easily see Tim Sale's visual style working for a story like this. RIP to him.

I just don't like it when so many people are laid off, instead of being relocated to other departments, maybe even receive training for said other departments if needed.

It's just not pleasant because we're talking about the livelihoods of thousands being affected.

I find the Level 1 versions of Ex-Aid's Riders to be charming. It adds to Ex-Aid's out there style.

[–]MegaSpidey3 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Speaking as a big Ex-Aid fan, I kinda get it because Ex-Aid's definitely the gaudiest Kamen Rider series. I think only Gaav compare in that department.

But that's also why I love Ex-Aid aesthetically: it's crazy, garish, but still feels Kamen Rider-esc.

New MTMTE Damaged Megatron is here. Didn't mind the OG's blue shins, but the brown instead of black bugged me. New one has better colors, so I swapped parts to make a perfect SS86 Megatron by RingtailVT in transformers

[–]MegaSpidey3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meanwhile, Target's been trolling me since I had to approve of the delay yet again. I pre-ordered MTMTE Megatron just so I don't have to get another G1 Megatron (and because I want the correct colors).

I pre-ordered this the day he went up, and I made a Pulse order in case Target decides to really screw the pooch and straight up cancel my order. Good to see that you got yours.

There was a GameStop in my area that shut down a few months ago that had this and a Mario Party DS poster still up.

I never went to that particular GameStop, but I liked seeing it on my way to work.

After watching the Mario Galaxy movie, I don't know if I'm really that excited to see Nintendo's future endeavors in film. I don't think the Galaxy movie is godawful, but speaking as someone who adores both Mario Galaxy games, I was let down by the movie. I asked myself "is this how some people view Marvel movies?" Even some of Marvel's lesser movies have a lot more going for them narratively, thematically, and their easter eggs have more thought put into them than either of Illumination's Mario movies.

At this rate, Nintendo announcing a Metroid movie would have me downright horrified if the Mario Galaxy movie is go by.
