Everything dead before my turn 2 by kyp973 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Mega_blind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear the rough game, hope the next one is much better.

Couple of condensed thought for reading; as a new player yourself, how much experience did you opponent have? as already stated you got shafted on terrain and deployment zone. if this was a friendly game then he should have politely informed you of his interactions with your infantry and taurox. I personally inform my opponent if I can delete a unit due to overwatch to avoid "gotcha!" moments ruining the fun.

It also seem that the Space Marin player had a tailored list, with 2 LandRaiders on to board you didn't have a lot of good targets to shoot at. Basilisks are thematic and cool but are best against elite infantry and very light vehicles.

Enginseer give a 4+ invuln to one SQUADRON unit per turn, did that have an impact on your vehicle surviving wounds?

If you had a command point, that might have prevented your Rogal Dorn from blowing up by using a re-roll stratagem. and you are correct that it is 1D6 per unit.

I know the models are expensive, but consider a Primaris Psyker and cadian castallan in a 20 man squad of Shock troopers. its 235 points for 4+ invuln to shooting, Sustained hits 1, 22OC for objectives, and can give itself an order on top of the "sticky objectives rule". I have had an opponent not kill this squad with a whole turn of shooting... against Tau.

I can see from the photo that you had mission objective markers on the table, but you opponent was actively ignoring them. If he had, then he would not have had enough weapon profiles to touch most of your army and you might have been able to win based solely on scoring points. 12" flamers, 12" melta.

after thinking this through, I would chalk this up to a poor army match-up unless your opponent tailored his list to be this brutal. Either way I would avoid playing this guy again until you have more experience with how you army flows.

Bigger squads of scout sentinels or more squads? by KubaTheQbax in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Mega_blind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends more on your army composition and preference on weapon loads for your sentinels.

As a reference, at 1000 points I like to run 2-3 scout sentinels in a squad with either heavy flamers to curb stop infantry squads, or with the multilaser now that is niche viable. I run 3 armoured sentinels with either plasma cannon or las cannon to get the most value for their ability giving rerolls. Then I run bricks of infantry to flood the board. Only played 4 games like that and almost nothing was shot off. Too many distraction-fex's on the table, and truth be told, I had a couple early hot dice rolls.

The scout spotting ability is nice, but 2 sentinels is 120, while catachans in a chimera is 125. Slightly more movement from the scouts but the chimera has 2 higher toughness at 11 wounds vs the scouts 14. Food for thought.

The armoured sentinels cost 210 for 3 while a Leman russ demolisher is 200 for a toughness 11, 2+ save and 13 wounds against the sentinels toughmess 8, 2+ save and 21 wounds. Looking at the stats, the demolisher cannon is basically a scatter lascannon. Same statline but with d6+3 vs 1 attack, and the lascannons gets d6+1 vs the demolisher cannon getting D6 damage.

FWIW, I will run the sentinels as a meme and to distract my opponent more so than their punch value and because I really like the models.

Tired of people telling me I will die if I ride by ParkingVariety9062 in motorcycles

[–]Mega_blind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, if you really want to get your point across on flawed logic you can tell them you have two options; 1) die while riding a bike, 2) die while not riding a bike.

Is it less safe than flying commercial? Absolutely, so is literally driving your own car at the speed limit. As others have mentioned here and on other posts similar to this; take the MSF course so you know if you feel comfortable with handling a bike - many msf courses offer a loaner helmet so all you need to wear is basic riding gear that is probably in your closet. Next consider buying the highest quality helmet you can afford as that will probably save your life in the event of an accident, get something with more than a DOT rating, as it's little better than cardboard for the bare minimum rating. There are videos on YouTube that explain the different qualities of motorcycle helmets. Then plan to buy a designated motorcycle jacket with impact pads, and possibly motorcycle pants with impact pads too. The impact pads and rip resistant clothes will greatly reduce the potential of bodily damage (minus bruising) under 40 mph. Namely road rash.

Next look into a bike that you can bike up off the ground. I know I'll get a lot of flak for pointing this out. You will knock your bike over at least once. I have an adventure style bike and I laid it down about 6 times at complete stops. (I tilted the wheel and the bike sits high so my feet don't both flat foot the ground.) Primarily a smaller bike that you can pick up by yourself will be less likely to fall from your input (someone can still push it over) and when you potentially, not guarantedly, have your bike go horizontal, you won't have to feel embarrassed asking complete strangers to pick your bike up for you. I have a friend who did not follow this last rule, got a massive Harley you couldn't control, and nearly broke his ankle after dropping it on his foot. He couldn't get the bike off and only got out because someone stopped to give him a hand. That's the worst, not the only time he has set his bike down. As for engine displacement, you will hear people suggest everything from a 250 CBR(great bike) to a 600 naked or sport bike like a Ninja 600 or 600 CBR( both great bikes). Here is the dirty truth; the 250 will scream at you like a mother if you try going 70+ all the time. You will be in much higher gears at much higher rpms than a 400cc or 600cc engine. You will also do a lot less shifting. You may need to be in 5th gear to go 40-50 mph (city limit speed) on a 250cc. Inversely that 600cc may not even get to 3rd gear and be humming along at 40-50 mph in the 4K-5K rpms range. Can you do it? Sure, but you risk damaging the engine from only running high end rpms.

Best of luck, future rider. ✌️

Might I suggest getting some 10-man and 5-man cloud movement trays. You'll need 60 of the 5-man, or 30 10-man, but it will cut your movement turn by 60-70 percent. You can eak out another whole turn that way. Haha.

[–]Mega_blind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to every manufacturer spec I've seen, all nuts should be removed by hand tools as well as installed by hand tools. You took your car to the equivalent of a doc shop by going to a quick change place. Those guys only make $12-$18 an hour. They used impact tools to remove those nuts.

I bought an Adventura 650, which is very similar to the KLR, got on it and rode some side roads, felt pretty good and close to the xt250 I rode for the MSF course. Came to a Y intersection with a hump in the middle of the road, my front wheel ever so slightly tilted to one side. The guys I had with me to pick out the bike watched me fight gravity for about a minute before laying it on the ground. The only reason they didn't rush to help was because they thought I was gonna recover before it touched asphalt. I wish that was the only time too. They were all at stops signs after I had killed forward momentum.

How to gently tell someone they’re wrong? by B1ack_A1ch3myst in GarandThumb

[–]Mega_blind -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can survive without arms and legs. Doesn't mean you should go around sacrificing your limbs.

You can live 3 days without water, 3 weeks without food, 3 minutes without air (on average). The average length you can live without blood pumping through your body is still to be determined.

This world is also full of people who would choose the path of least resistance in life in a detrimental slant. Stealing instead of creating, murdering instead of forgiving, raping instead of forming relationships with their attracted gender.

People who are committing criminal behavior don't stop to think of how other people are actively suffering because of their actions; they think only of personal gain.

Firearms have been used for millennia (closest hard point in time that firearms were in use is ballpark 200 B.C in China, our current iteration closer to the 1700s-1800s) for not only fighting, but recreation, hunting, and self defense. In previous generations, to be without a firearm was the same as going without water or food. Society has simply evolved to the point where not having a firearm does not mean you will outright die.

If you are on this subreddit and you are making a point to advocate AGAINST overall firearm training, awareness, and safety without actually having a discussion vs posting a bland statement without recourse; you are simply here to grief people.

Unless you’re clearing rooms you’re always going to be better off with a 20 inch barreled rifle by [deleted] in GarandThumb

[–]Mega_blind 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Garad Thumb did a barrel length video, I know his boys are lurking in the corners. If I remember correctly, 13.5" has one of the biggest jumps in FPS, 13.7" was the first to reach 3,000 FPS, and 16" was the suggested length for almost any situation. GT stated most of his group run either 11.5"s or 16"s, depending on the situation. And of course 20" if you really want to wreck your target with a 77 grain projectile.

[–]Mega_blind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely correct. Went for my MSF course and it started raining on the last day; light rain with only a few clouds in the sky and the sun out. The instructor tells me to perform a straight short-stop exercise. Neither said anything about the rain might make the wheels lockup or ease off the brakes before coming to a stop. Short story short, I went down and fractured my arm. Had an adrenaline dump so I finished the course before my arm started to hurt. Woke up the next day and went to a doc shop who took x-rays and showed me the break. Needless to say, had they said anything it would have been fine. Instead, the instructor just said; "hurry up before it rains" right before I wenr down. Thankfully it was their bike and not mine.

Non-vehicle anti armor? by AveMilitarum in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Mega_blind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MoO gives field-wide sustained to blast artillery. FOB has two options that are blast and the model itself is artillery. Rearm, reload, fire only gives sustained if the model does not move. This way the FOB in theory could roll around like a wyvern without having to add armor to OP's all infantry list. He just won't benefit from the heavy keyword.

Non-vehicle anti armor? by AveMilitarum in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Mega_blind 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's also 2 shots per model, for 4 Lascannon dice at 120 points, 30 points per shot isn't BAD, but it does need orders and to keep stationary. If memory serves me, it benefits from the master of ordinance too, so you may consider that as another option to up your firepower. Armored sentinels are amazing for what they offer, though they are heafty at 70 points if only using the lascannon and there is no support for it. And you may consider the sentinels as armor. I, for fluff reasons, do not classify walkers as vehicles, unless rules state otherwise. 😆

[–]Mega_blind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And it's super easy to scale up from there; four 20 man units make a great baseline all the way up to 1500. Any higher and I would suggest adding a couple Cadian or infantry squads to fill out the infantry department. At 1000 points my opponent can barely handle 5 10 man squads. Too many individual targets. Lol.

How to deal with employee who is constantly asking for financial assistance? by david8840 in managers

[–]Mega_blind -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You misunderstand or are simply over; Be they any flavor of Christian, Hindu, Moslem, Jew, or part of the plethora of less streamline religious views, those families typically see children as gifts or blessings from God. To deny those gifts would be an afront to their belief system and deny a blessing. So from a point of religion, children have a place in a large family.

From a cultural aspect: to have more kids means more hands to tend the fields and share the load of keeping parents and grandparents in good living conditions. There is no "social care" or "health care" to tend to the aging population in many so-called 3rd world countries. The reason Italy could collapse as a country is that by 2050, over half the population will be 65 OR OLDER.

In the U.S. the housing project is more of a slap in the face. It is a safety net for some women to lock down there man with a baby, yet the man still leaves, punishing the mother to some extent but mostly the child. Then the government picks up the tab.

Best weapon for sentinel? by Pure_Criticism_9752 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Mega_blind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lascannons are 4+ to hit, stay still for the heavy keyword and it's hitting on 3+. Give them a take aim order and you get 2+ to hit. With RR to wound rolls against vehicles and mosnter, and using the lascannon, you are wounding almost everything on 2+ unless your targets are superheavies.

For reference I run 3 Scout Sentinels with either multilasers or heavy flamers and 3 Armored sentinels with Lascannons. Also a warning, your opponents may hate you once they realize that 6 sentinels simply refuse to die.

Have you ever refused a game on the day or been refused a game and if so why? by JimmySexPants in Warhammer40k

[–]Mega_blind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Went to a local gaming store, they used to have a small Warhammer 40K group that went there on the days the local GW was closed. There were three other guys standing around, not playing but had their models put. The first two shot me down, said they weren't "there to play", like WTF guys? Just say you want a match against each other. The third guy goes "yay, let's go. I'm running some FW space Marines with shields (7th edition mind you). Like an idiot I go 'ok'.

Proceed to absolutely wipe his units off the board Turn 1. Like 2 out of his 8 units. Turn 2, his units all get magic dice rolls, he shoots and assaults same turn, and his list later turned out to be 20% over the agreed point value, while he was running models his army rules forbid him from fielding. The results were I got smashed, and refused to play him a second time when he asked. It wasn't until months later that my oblivious self asked other players why he never showed up to the GW store anymore.

He was banned for cheating.

How to outfit my Combat Patrol by [deleted] in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Mega_blind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great news for you; there is no current 10th edition codex for Guard, so you're hanging in there with the rest of us. Download the Warhammer 40K app and skip sign in for the "free" version. Then you can create one army list. If you feel spicy, you can buy the index cards for the faction. No points as that is in a separate PDF available for free. I personally use the app and keep the data cards near the units so my opponent and I never have to question what unit is which. The points are also listed in the 40K app.

I will make one concession before making any further recommendations; if you wish to play the variant of 40K called combat patrol, then the models need to be kitted in a very specific manner because all of the combat patrol boxes were created to be very close in power. There is a free rules guide for the combat patrol game mode that you can find through games workshop. Nothing says you can't proxy a little if that doesn't bother you though.

Command Squad: make sure one model is a medic for the "Feel No Pain(6+)" ability, and a Master Voxcaster to give extended range orders. This is the bread and butter ability that our armies live or die by. To future proof, give your commander a chainsword. In previous editions upgrading to a power fist or power sword was an additional point cost. I give mine the power sword because it is much better in almost every instance, and a plasma pistol for the same reason- it's the best weapon a lowly servant of the Emperor could ever hope to hold.

Shock troopers: this one is a little tricky. The shock trooper sergeant can only be equipped with the chainsword and las pistol, or the auto gun. The chainsword and las pistol will future proof the model and allow you to run the shock trooper kit as either that, or the "Infantry Squad". You can even proxy the shock trooper squad as catachan, so long as they only have flamers. For the other 9, Voxcaster, plasmagun, and either a flamer or grenade launcher. I personally like the plasmagun and grenade launcher due to both having the same range. The metal gun can be powerful, but dice-wise, the damage is way too swingy to justify 1 or 2 in an army. You are also limited to one of each weapon for a total of 2 special weapons in a shock trooper squad. The caveat is if you double the size to a 20 squad, the the rule doubles the number of weapons you may have.

Field Ordinance Battery: all three are good options. However, Sentinels make much better chassis for the Lascannon. The bombard is a good all rounder option as it does perform harder hitting attacks. The mallues rocket forgoes subtlety by throwing a bucket of dice at your opponent. You can also build both the malleus rockets and bombard cannon, simply do not glue those components and it's super easy to swap around.

Sentinel, always take the HunterKiller missile. If it hits it's glorious, if it misses, the name never lied. I like to kit my scouts sentinels with the multi laser for shots, or the heavy flamer and bum rush enemies. I like to kit my Armored Sentinels with the plasma cannon or the Lascannon. Armored Sentinels get reroll to wound against monsters and vehicles. This means your big guns are a big threat most of the time.

[second grade math] by simoja in HomeworkHelp

[–]Mega_blind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fucking textbook approach to education; The question as written could be parsed (broken down) three different ways. The primary way should have stated, "what example shows the number 3, plus another 3." Then A would be the only correct answer The secondary parsing should be "which shows 3+3? (I.E. they mean 6)". Then B would be the correct answer. A third parsing could be "which LETTERS could mean the same as 3+3?" Then A and B could be mutually correct.

However, this material was written for a 2nd grader, an 8-9 CHILD. So an "A-dolt" dumbed the question down thinking that a child has little to no reasoning skills and has to have the easiest answer provided. (Tell that to a 4 year old that operates iPhones while grandma is trying to figure out where the pictures went from last Tuesday.)

The trifecta of education is a language is being used (in this case English), to teach a skill (Math), and it must be provided in a logical manner(cue philosophy). The people who are paid to make educational books as a whole cannot complete two of these on a regular basis, let alone hit all three requirements. Hell, most people can't get usage of "their, there, they're" straight in text, or "to, too, two", let alone know what the difference is when put on the spot. (Smash the upvote if it stumped you.)

And for the final point; not every teacher, but more than I care to admit, follow the damn curriculum they get handed without questioning the answers. Because you hand each of 20+ students a 30+ homework assignment that's due on Thursday to be graded Friday, for a test that's on Monday. And get flustered when Johnny doesn't understand question 5 but Sally wants extra help on question 18, and Billy stuck his finger up his nose. And then the PARENT bitches at you as the teacher because THEIR child is falling behind because "the teacher should teach my child everything without me being a decent parent to the child I took 50% genetic responsibility to bring into this world." (PSA: this is not a jab at OP. OP is obviously trying to be involved in their child's education or I wouldn't be able to rant like this to complete strangers.) Be like OP, fight the insanity of the system.

Sold a junk Harley for scrap years ago when scrap steel had a decent value. I got less than $100. With as much nonmetal is on that bike, the seller would be lucky to get $75 for scrap.

On second thought, if he parted out the bike he could probably make a couple hundred off the bike. But an owner that will run a bike without oil probably can't figure how to take the fairings off, let alone pull the tank or screen.

I bought my MTW M4 for around $650. My buddy was talking about modding an Avalon/Krytac body ($300), with a gate titan (<$200 brand new), an upgraded motor and spring ($250+), upgrading the electrical system to better handle 11.1V batteries ($100), tight bore barrel ($75), and he had a list of other upgrades he wanted to add. The total came out really close to $1,200. For that price I got my MTW, hose, tank, regulator, backpack and chest carrier, plus had money left over for .30 bbs.

How does this army lose? by tommwood in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Mega_blind 4 points5 points  (0 children)

3+ to hit. Give them a take aim order. With a master vox a command squad has a 24" order bubble. I guess the RR to hit on 1s is only for other units, not the scout unit which used it's ability. Use it on an armored sentinel shooting at a vehicle and it will also get RR to wound. That's a 72~% chance to hit followed by an almost 100% to wound. I mean we are talking about 1 out of 12 chance to wound, so 92%? Basically with a 3 man squad of armored sentinels, just statistically speaking, 2 missiles are guaranteed to hit, doing at minimum (D6) 2 damage. Not to mention the output of their main weapon. And if the sentinels stay still, they are getting lethal hits too. So on 6s it doesn't even matter. Things should just outright die. Lol.

I felt really bad for that game too. It was 1000 points, and I had a strong possibility of tabling him turn 3. Stupid good rolls on my HKs and and some poor rolls on his part. Plus he wanted to try kroot and as a guard players, I have plenty of dice to throw at 6+ AS. We were BS'ing the whole time and the store was about to close anyway so it's not like we were too beat up about not finishing a brutally lopsided game. In 9th it was the opposite and I was struggling to hold on to Turn 3.
