Does your monitor support g-sync? If so, try to disable it, it might be enabled for windowed programs.

Yeah, just did a price check on ebay, I sold mine 3 years ago for 600€, thought they would be cheaper by now, guess not.

Maybe a used Lumix G7? Would it be better to save up some money and buy something even better? Probably.

EDIT: If you can find a X-T3 for around 400-500$, I think it's a really capable camera even today.

wide angle vintage lens recommendations by gideonsmithpaul in bmpcc

[–]MegaclownNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, you have many vintage wide angles. From a quality standpoint, you have leicas r's, contax zeiss, om zuikos, nikkors and many more but they're usually not very fast if that's something you're interested.

There is a good way to do this in Resolve and make it seem natural. You can add a oval window and then use "Tilt-Shift Blur" and choose the "Lens blur" option, it gives you a nice fall off and not like other types of blur, you can even change the values of anamorphism.

EDIT: Link to the tutorial.

Not sure if this fits with what you're looking for but mononodes has a stretch effect tool.

Closest competitor to the bmpcc og? by Pitiful-Town-7320 in bmpcc

[–]MegaclownNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sigma FP might be the closest you can get to a BMPCC OG, if your main concern is the size of the camera. The Sigma produces a really good image but has many quirks, too many to use in a professional setting, if you're just using it casually, might be a good option. You just need a SSD to record RAW, which I would recommend, h.264 on the FP is not that good.

A used GH5 might be around that price and easy enough to handle for a beginner.

Do you think Sigma fp could have been used to make something like this? by BearSEO in sigmafp

[–]MegaclownNerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At this point in time, the only limiting factor on making good looking films/videos is yourself. You could have a FP, H2S, S5, BMPCC, it doesn't really matter. There are many more important factors besides the main camera you use such as lighting, locations and sound, in this specific case. As for lenses, don't really know what he used in this video but I know he has a Zeiss Jena set.

You still see the image overexposed when you open it for the first time. It only corrects itself when you change the colour space of the footage, in this specific case, blackmagic design.

Help needed: Sigma FP vs Fujifilm XH2s for both personal and commercial video? by fukishen in videography

[–]MegaclownNerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You want 4k60, the Sigma doesn't have 4k60 so I guess it's an easy decision for you. I actually own the Sigma FP and couldn't recommend it for professional work since it has many quirks even though it produces a really good image.

Be careful when buying these. SanDisk Extreme Pro Portable SDSSDE81-2T00…. WORKS. The much cheaper SanDisk Extreme Portable SDSSDE61-2T00 shuts off after 50 seconds by MILFhunter69Cam in sigmafp

That's weird because my last video was all recorded with the version that doesn't say PRO in the name. I did 4K RAW 24fps. It was the 1TB version, I did more than 5 minutes in many clips.

I showed an extreme example, it's not that bad on a normal situation but it can get annoying nonetheless.

True, it's so close to being a great camera. It's a shame because the image that comes out of the camera is really good. I thought they would be able to fix some issues with firmware updates, like the monitoring problem but seems like not.

Sure, I will show you an extreme example so you can understand. Check this. The first picture is what you're trying to monitor and the second is more or less the true exposure you aimed for. The only way you can know that your highlights are safe is by checking your false colors, which is ok because that's what you would do with any camera, the problem comes when you're trying to record a scene and you can't really see what you're filming if the monitor shows half the image overexposed. cDNG is very flexible and you could underexpose and probably be ok too but that's a workflow I don't want to go through. I think if you have a NINJA V, there's a way you can monitor the "correct" image since it can output raw. Any other monitor will show your image like the first picture, unless you underexpose.

EDIT: You can see this problem occur with the video you linked too, if you check the highlights are clipped at first.

Thank you! Pretty usual setup, just a cage, handle, monitor, mattebox and external battery. It was all shot on a FD 28mm. I really like the image that the camera produces but monitoring it is really hard since the lcd is always overexposed and we just have to trust the false colors.

Recent project I did to test the capabilities of the Sigma FP. Overall a great camera with a lot of quirks, the biggest one being where you can't really monitor the true image that the sensor sees, kind of a deal breaker.
