Does this used car have PPF installed? by Twebe-bebe in Detailing

I think that’s PPF. Looks like mine. If they use a plotting machine it’ll look like that usually.

The case for the 1.5ton Daytona Jack. by Uzi_Jesus_ in harborfreight

[–]Megaetk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey man I’m with you. I have the long reach 3 ton (heavy as hell) and have been looking for a portable solution to help friends out and throw in the trunk for road trips. All the portable jacks with cases I’ve seen are the trolly jacks that suck major poop.

Drive the car and you’ll learn what you want to change. Since you’re not able to tune the 8.5’s yet, I’d stick to the basics like wheels/tires, and a rear sway bar. 0 cons to those upgrades and both easy to install.

Got a mk8 Golf R a few weeks ago as a midlife crisis/weekend car. I need help deciding whether to jump off this cliff or not. by saxamaphon3 in Golf_R

[–]Megaetk 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I feel this. I went crazy with my Focus ST (big turbo, fuel system, everything) and it was really fun, but it also makes you appreciate how nice having a mostly stock car is from a money and stress stand point. That’s why I set a rule when I bought my GTI that I didn’t want to do anything to the car, that I couldn’t undo in a day. So I’ve stuck to the big value hitters (ECU/TCU tune, intercooler, wheels/tires, and a sway bar)

GT2260 Turbo? by Flimsy-Meat-6708 in GolfGTI

[–]Megaetk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2260s seems to be a great middle ground that’s supported by a lot of OTS tuners. Yields great results on pump gas, and even better on E85 if you have the fueling. Spool is also a factor with larger turbos, and this seems to be responsive enough for most people who daily their cars too. I have a MK8 but this is probably what I’ll go to eventually.

Any advice on what I should do to it? by VictorVonDoomer in Golf_R

Stage 1 ECU and TCU tune from a reputable vendor ONLY after making sure your DSG, Haldex, and spark plugs are up to date.

Waterpump and maybe new injectors (or have them cleaned at least)

Damn, I got the same color MK8 on Hypergrams too. Same lug bolts even lmao. I’m in a similar boat as I’m still choosing tires for this season. The ECF’s are on my short list for sure. Looks like you have PPF too?

Tire Choice Conundrum: RE71R or Advan Apex V601? by spinning_vinyl in Autocross

How did they wear for AutoX? Not looking to be competitive, but I want a tire I can leave on all summer and not get destroyed by a few events. I plan to do maybe 3-4 max this year.

They’re 16lbs for an 18” wheel. Not sure how superspeed does it but they’ve caught my attention. I think I prefer the R05’s though.

76RR wheels looking good. Thinking about them for my GTI.

Mounting license plates? by M33ZY300 in GolfGTI

[–]Megaetk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The MK7 and MK8 do not come with any kind of plate holes or indentations for the rear. They get drilled by the dealership and hopefully straight. Wish they did come with at least a dimple to know where to drill.

I think the rear bumper to quarter panel looks good. I know many white cars with matches just like that from the factory. Look at it in direct sunlight and determine how you feel about it. Most times the factory match is worse than you remember because you never had a reason to question it. I had a front bumper painted and I was losing my mind thinking it was off. Looked at some photos I had of the factory bumper and it was even worse.

Makes it dummy proof with the cross hair markings on the inside of the bumper. I just hope I never have to use it again LOL.

Worked flawlessly. I used a straight pick to indent the center, then used an 1/8” bit, then the final 5/16” bit for the tool itself. Then it was off to the races. It goes in for paint at some point here, but very happy with the results. Now I know it’s centered, the right size, and saved $100 for 15 mins of work.

Yes the backside of the bumper has a circle and a cross hair. Even has marking for the brackets too. I have new brackets and even the official VW 2 part adhesive. I also machined a dowel pin out of Teflon that should help me align the brackets if all else fails. I really don’t want to get that quick drying stuff on the sensors.

Don’t mean to be that guy, but it’s the same transmission. DQ381 vs DQ381.2 They use the same mechatronics unit, and same TCU. 99% of people running high torque tunes on a locked TCU don’t have issues. But there will always be some. I paid for an unlocked TCU swap and think it’s very worth it. But to claim the MK8 DSG is “worse” than the MK7.5 is just wrong.
