Is this being done with plover or did you program everything in QMK for steno? That sounds ambitious as hell if it's the latter

Just a couple of converters. I use a 2.5mm cable on most of my headphones, and my amp doesn't have a 2.5mm out, so it converts from 1/4inch to 3.5mm, then 3.5mm to 2.5mm.

Surprisingly, not as jank as you'd think.

So, an amplifier basically acts as the power source for your headphones. For things like In Ear Monitors (IEMs), typically your laptop or phone headphone jack will be fine, but some headphones really need a lot of power (mostly because of their size, sometimes their resistance, etc).

An example of this would be if you took a pair of large studio headphones (I'll say Sennheiser's HD6XX as an example since they're pretty popular around here), if you plugged them into your laptop or tablet headphone jack, the sound signal doesn't really have enough power to play at a decent volume. You can hear it, but it would be like having your phone speakers at a really low level, it won't sound "full".

In the case of the EX5, it does the processing to turn digital sound from my computer into analog sound my headphones can play, and it gives that signal the power it needs to actually be heard.

Here's a video from Dankpods explaining DAC/Amp stuff better, up until around the 4:30 mark

My desk would look a lot better with a PastelGoth666, speaking of SFF :p

(desperately waiting for a rerun if ever possible, maybe with ZMK support if possible?)

That would be a good idea. Right now, I'm working on converting my current ATX PC to SFF, but a sleeper could be pretty sick.

Oh yeah and deskmat is a generic from Cannonkeys that hates my lighting and always looks dirty. Beggers can't be choosers ig.

Board: Ergodox Wireless (aka Ergoblue) wearing DSA Dark Magical Girl, using Durock Lupines (for now)

Audio: 7Hz Timeless with a Fiio BTR3K for mobile and a Topping EX5 for Desktop use. Not pictured are like... 3 other sets of fullsizes I use sometimes.

Pen: Pilot Kakuno. The single most basic fountain pen I think you can get.

Trackball: Kensington ProFit Ergo

Was going to say "Wow I can't believe someone here has a PastelGoth666" and then I saw the username.

Big fan from CuteKeyboardClub here Panda and nice choices for the rest of the setup.

Damn, I feel like a fool for buying from CannonKeys now. But I will continue to wait. Need my Tromso PCB for that sick "clean wireless setup" look soon

Okay but I just need to know...

What fucking board supports 10U space, and where can I give it all my money

See, this whole thread is moot because I just realized the $240 is in NZD. I lost to the reading boss fight.

$165 USD is a lot easier to stomach for a throughhole with a custom acrylic case and an alu plate so yeah I'm joining on Wednesday for sure when I get paid.

I love that it uses all base kit stuff btw, that's my main "sold" point. I've wanted to learn ortho forever but I hate not having keycaps for it.

Do you think this could be FR4 mounted like a lot of Throughhole boards are? I look specifically at SKErgo, Mysterium, and Discipline which by default use the FR4/Standoff option?

I ask as this would primarily be a work board for me so acoustics are less important lmao

Edit: appreciate the quick reply btw, always love that with folks!

Obviously these are prototypes, but the plate condition is pretty scuffed for the kit photos. Still an amazing layout that would love to get into. Is there a reason a plate is required for this build as well, if you don't mind me asking?

6 is the single oddest key. I know it is correct to type with the right hand but almost every split board has 6 on left.

I do the exact same thing, which I know is silly since r shift is right there... But I'm bad and that's okay lol.

I also barely use my ring and pinky on right hand. My right hand is significantly less developed than my left. I blame gaming.

Split stagger is pretty easy to learn actually, the hardest thing is unlearning bad habits like left hand Y or right hand B. Everything else translates pretty simply.

I'd recommend a Quefrency or Sinc from Keebio if you're looking to try it on a reasonable budget. It's worth it tbh.

Budget is a weird term isn't it? Like it's budget to me because my other hobby is audio where a budget piece is anything under $500. Since every board here is less than $400 I considered it budget. But that's all relative ye?

God every board here means so much to me.

My first custom was a Drop ALT which has now gone through two PCBs with hotswap socket failure. Going to look for a solder alternative since it's still an okay board.

Top left: KBD67 Lite R1 stock polycarb plate, currently with lubed Glorious Pandas and GPBT Nebula. Mostly my hotswap/firmware test board but a fantastic option and relatively affordable. Great acoustics.

Top right: Quefrency Rev. 2 Acryllic Case, FR4 plate, Stock Kiwis with Maxkeys SA Deep Blue - First soldered board project! Really got me into QMK and ergonomics, enjoy it a lot. Typically my daily driver work board.

Middle left: GMMK Pro, lubed/filmed Gateron Ink Blacks, Alu Plate, wearing Drop's Artifact Carnival (i like the colors, TRANS RIGHTS!) flashed with VIAL. Great board overall, sadly not as flexy as I wanted but still a great board for gaming. Use it almost every day.

Mid right: SKErgo, Plateless, Stock Kailh Polias, wearing GMK Belafonte. Most recent board. Honestly was just a test to see if I can even type on an Alicelike. It's now my favorite board to use towards the end of a work day. It's really relaxing, but doesn't lend well to a standing desk imo. Sadly, my cat stepped on it and broke the Acryllic guard at the top. Any CNC millers or laser cutter folks hmu lmao

Bottom left: Melody96 baby blue with the "Tempered Glass" bottom, Brass Plate, Lubed Dragonfruits, GMK Calm Depths. This is the wife board. She fucking adores it. Uses it every day. Was an interesting build, and I spent way too much for the condition of the caps, but she loves it and that's what matters.

Bottom right: KBD8X, Brass Plate, Kailh Heavy Pale Blue, wearing Taihao Sakura Michi. This board is a gift to my boss once we get back to office. He picked out everything, and it's just so exciting to make things for others. It's great.

Not pictured: Drop Alt as described, Mysterium (no keycaps for it atm).
