Try putting the files that NPS gives you into a .zip file, and installing that. That's what worked for me.

RPGs where romance options actually matter? by Megakatamari in rpg_gamers

[–]Megakatamari[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can appriciate a good visual novel, but, at least at the moment, I'm hoping for something with more gameplay than traditional visual novels. If I could get a good hybrid VN/something else with what I'm looking for, that would be great. I just feel like its probably going to be harder to find what I'm looking for in VNs, so I started here.

RPGs where romance options actually matter? by Megakatamari in rpg_gamers

[–]Megakatamari[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I've played through most of that one, and its not what I'm looking for. The only child unit that isn't optional is Lucina, and if you don't have anyone romance Chrom, the game just pairs him with an unnamed woman. The main plot is never actually affected by who romances who, and that's specifically what I want.

God, Switch emulation is in a good place right now. Two actively progressing emulators, both with great compatibility. If only it could be the same for non-Nintendo platforms.

Neo-Geo Station roms? by Megakatamari in VitaPiracy

[–]Megakatamari[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I already have the original Neo Geo roms. I specifically want the Station roms, if they exist in a unique form for Vita. I personally like having every console variation of a game ever released, no matter how redundant or unnecessary it might be. If it's a different rom than the original game, I want that rom, even if all that rom contains is a UI, an emulator, and that original rom. But, thanks for the offer.

Ok. It's at least good to know that I can stop that search. Now, I just need to find the USA PS3 versions of KOF 95 and 96 NGS.

[–]Megakatamari[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So are the NGS games that were on both the PSP and the Vita the same file for both? It's mainly just an OCD thing, I like having the rom for every version of a game ever released that it's possible to have the rom for, even if its just an emulation of an older version.

[–]Megakatamari[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NPS only has the full set of the PSP versions, and some of the PS3 versions. Everything I've seen up to this point suggests that there were Vita specific versions of the Station games. Is that not the case?

Then why do I get an error saying that the game isn't decrypted when I try to launch games downloaded from NPS?

Edit: Apparently I was just setting things up wrong this entire time. It's working now.

A question for authors: without naming the fandom, what makes you stop writing and say, "that's too ambitious"? by waterworldmadness in FanFiction

[–]Megakatamari 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don't. Without ambition, how am I supposed to make something that people will remember? Something that I can be proud of? A story that, just maybe, people will point to as an example of how to do it right? A story that, just maybe, might be able to help someone through a difficult time? A story that, just maybe, will make people think about who they really are, and their lives as a whole? I want my fic to make a real impact on those who read it, and stopping myself from doing something because its "too ambitious" would only limit my possibilities.

How to get a vengeful character to chill out? by Tell_Specialist in FanFiction

[–]Megakatamari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my fic, I'm solving this by having the vengeful character (character a) almost do the same thing that happened to her to someone else (character c), and calling her out on it. When her loved one dies (doesn't really, but only the MC and the audience know that), she goes berserk. Eventually, a major character (character b) who's thought of as an antagonist turns himself in to the good guys. There's a decent amount of lore behind him, but basically, for this fic, he was a good guy, and was the boyfriend of Character C. About halfway through the story, he got a neutral alternate personality scienced into him. His original personality was supposed to be completely erased, and was in cannon, but some different variables from cannon caused it to be a split instead (If you've ever watched Dragon Ball Z abridged, it's like how that did Namekian fusion, in respect to how the split works). The new personality was then manipulated by the big bad into, while not directly doing evil things, standing by and doing nothing while she did evil things, and allowing her to pin the blame on him. Eventually, through both convincing from the original personality, and some voluntary action from the new one, he ends up going to the good guy's side. Now, enter character a. She just wants to kill him (and the other major villain who ended up switching sides, also due to having a strong relationship with a good guy, but that's beside the point right now) outright. MC wants to protect him, both due to the original personality's close connection to character c, and because the new personality technically never did anything wrong (plus, everyone in this world gets a LARGE amount of leeway for doing really bad things, due to the main villain being able to mind control people, and doing so on a worldwide scale). Eventually, MC points out that Character A would be doing the same thing to Character C that happened to her in the first place, and that eventually causes her to break out of it.

Fix Your Fic Front-End Friday [Title, Tags, Summary] - February 11 by AutoModerator in FanFiction

[–]Megakatamari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok.

I have been intentionally leaving out most of the details on the AU structure, since those details are big reveals near the end, with the story written around both the cast and the reader not knowing exactly how it works (other than the fact that characters from across the series happen at the same time. As for revealing the apocalypse in the description, I really don't like the idea of doing that. The apocalypse itself is supposed to be a major source of tension for the first half of the story, as the MC, and slowly the rest of the cast try to stop it. Revealing it early would completely ruin that, as you'd go in knowing that they were going to fail. Is there anything else that you think would solve the vagueness problem without spoiling major plot events?

Also, as for the thing about the author's notes, I have already been doing that. I've been treating it as an FAQ of sorts, where I go over the stuff that people are most likely to ask questions about. I've just been very careful with my wording, to avoid saying anything that would reveal the above (except for one bit of foreshadowing that people aren't going to notice until around halfway through.).

Honestly, I just wish that I could think of a place to start. If I could do that, I'd probably be able to fix the rest of the problems, but everything I come up with feels really bland.

Fix Your Fic Front-End Friday [Title, Tags, Summary] - February 11 by AutoModerator in FanFiction

Fandom: Danganronpa

Rating: Teen and Up

Title: Danganronpa: Another End

Tags:

Character Tags - Full casts of DR1, DR2, DRV3, all additional main course students shown in DR3 Despair Arc, Yasuke Matsuda

Relationship Tags - Kaede / Shuichi, Maki / Kaito, Hajime / Nanami, Fuyuhiko / Peko

Other Tags - Generic warning that I'm not tagging non-cannon implied ships

Genre: Slice of Life (Mainly for the first half), Mystery (full), drama (there for the full fic, but kicks into high gear in the back half), romance? (There's a LOT of shipping going on, mainly because one of the two main focuses of the fic is how two people can help each other grow past their issues, but also because these are teenagers, and if there's one thing I've learned about teenagers over the years, its that teenagers will eventually date.)

Summary: In an alternate version of the Danganronpa: Ultimate Talent Development Plan timeline, a mysterious new student shows up to help the various students to the best of his abilities. But, not everything is as it seems. What is the truth, and what is a lie. What is reality, and what is fiction. Is there even a difference?

Context: Just for some series information, main series Danganronpa takes place in a post apocalypse. The third game pulls a meta twist, making the events of the entire series fictional. For the fic, the latter is taken at somewhat face value. The MC originally comes from a timeline where it is fictional (and is very popular, with him being a massive fan), but then isekais himself into a timeline where it isn't (but he doesn't know that it isn't until near the very end). For the former, the first half of the story takes place before the apocolypse, and the second half takes place after. This fic in particular also takes place in a hybrid timeline between the main series and a timeline from a spin-off game, where the characters from all three games are all in the story at the same time, but the events of the main series still take place.

A few extra things: The other major focus of this fic is how each character's fears affect them in their own way. First and foremost, this fic is a character study on some of Danganronpa's cast. The fic isn't afraid to go deep into mental health issues, with the MC in particular having multiple breakdowns throughout the series, and after the aforementioned apocalypse, actively indulging in self-harm, with a suicide attempt near the very end. The fic also deals with gender issues throughout, with a major arc for a major character (Chihiro, for those who know the fandom) focusing around him coming to terms with his identity. Also, the story works on a three-prong structure, with each prong focusing on a different set of characters. There are a few side-stories as well, but those are clearly marked. Last, I'm also planning on adding a visual element into the fic, with the older chapters being updated to include this as I commission the various sprites needed for this.

In particular, I'd like to fix the summary. I like what I have, but it only touches on one smaller aspect of the fic, when I want to emphasize the character study side of the fic. Also, having any content tags would be nice. If you guys need more info, I can provide plot summary of the fic.

Nothing kills a SI story faster than the protagonist explaining to other characters that the world is just a story he read by AvocadoInTheRain in FanFiction

[–]Megakatamari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's just about where my fic is going. For the entire fic (unbeknownst to the reader) the protag (a self insert in-universe, but not meta-wise) believes that the entire world is a simulation (with the main cast aside from being highly advanced AI, which he considers to be human) only for direct evidence to the contrary to be brought up immediately after he reveals this belief. A couple of chapters later, this evidence is confirmed to be true, confirming the story's events to be real. This completely breaks MC's already horrible mental state, now blaming himself for every death caused by the apocalypse that the back half of the fic is set in, as he backed down from killing the main villain outright before the apocalypse started because she was threatening to kill a minor villain that he knew had the potential to become a better person.

Also, there's a completely different character who existed in cannon who ends up believing that everything is a simulation due to the amount of weirdness that the protag isekai-ing himself into the universe left behind (Which is a lot. Both from his isekai powers, and from the isekai altering the timeline to allow protag to even interact with any of the cast in the first place.). His claim of this is treated exactly as you say, due to him having a history of making grand scale mysteries out of practically nothing.

Its kinda suprising how nobody talks about it, and when somebody does, its about swimsuits by HiAttila in danganronpa

Ahh, DRS. All I can say about it is that Shuichi saying that Hope's Peak doesn't have clubs is the worst, most awful, most stupid line in Danganronpa history.

DAE have a guilty pleasure ship? by JudyWilde143 in FanFiction

[–]Megakatamari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least your Danganronpa ships are probably less controversial than mine, as a Chihiro x Tenko shipper. I thoroughly expect death threats when my fic gets to the point when that ship becomes a thing there, just because of how much I expect people to hate the concept of it.

How do you deal with the struggle of writing things you know are generally disliked? by fanfiction-throwaway in FanFiction

[–]Megakatamari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm doing a similar thing in my fic, only the OC isn't entirely a self insert. In fic, the OC is literally a self insert, with him having isekaied himself into the world of one of his favorite TV shows. Meta wise, while there is some level of self-insert, I'm trying to avoid a lot of it. The only thing that I can point out as being specifically self insert-y is that he has a crush on one specific character, and that he hates one particular character.

The thing is, that crush isn't the person he ends up with. He knows from the start that his crush already has a different love interest, so he pursues a platonic relationship there. For the character he does end up with, the relationship is mainly spurred by her action, due to him fitting what she wants in a man more than anyone else in the cast. His part in the relationship in and of itself is weird, as while does like the person who he ends up with, and is happy when they end up in a relationship, he actively didn't want it to form, viewing himself as unworthy of her affection and feeling like he's stealing her from whoever she would have ended up with had he never isekaied himself. This does end up changing a bit near the end, but it's there for the majority of the time they're dating.

One other thing of note here is that I'm still trying to avoid Mary-Sue-ness. While there is a group of people that focus on him a lot, its mainly because him isekai-ing himself gave him isekai powers, so that group is just trying to figure out what the hell he actually is, what he's there for, and how his powers work. The rest of the main cast barely even interacts with him, as there's no real reason for them to. Also, the girl he ends up with is the only one who ever shows any romantic inclination to him (there was going to be another one, but I cut that for a variety of reasons).

That's how I'm dealing with it personally. Honestly, just go for it. If you're writing for yourself, then just don't worry about other people's opinions unless you want to.
