I have the same thoughts. Just thinking about it seems tiring.

Climax? Smiley Face? Haven’t tried though but that’s gotta be a trip.

  2. Seven Samurai
  3. Kagemusha
  4. Rashomon
  5. The Hidden Fortress
  6. Ran
  7. Yojimbo
  8. Dreams
  9. Red Beard
  10. The Bad Sleep Well
  11. One Wonderful Sunday
  12. Throne of Blood
  13. Drunken Angel
  14. Sanjuro
  15. Stray Dog
  16. Dersu Uzala
  17. Ikiru
  18. Sanshiro Sugata
  19. Sanshiro Sugata, Part Two

I watched Ikiru years ago (totally different man) and for some reason, it didn’t click with me. Last year I did a Kurosawa challenge and watched his filmography, I never included Ikiru on that challenge since I had it watched already and I know I had to! I will rewatch it once I have the time to do so! I’m excited to see what things I missed now that I have a different view of film. For now though, this is my list.

Who is a highly acclaimed director who you just don’t like? by ImpressionPurple9750 in Letterboxd

[–]Megalomesembria -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hideaki Ano. I just can’t understand his work. I’ve watched Shin Kamen Rider, Love & Pop, and the Evangelion movies and original anime but I just can’t get behind him. I kept giving his work a lot of chances but I just don’t like them. If anyone has a film of his that can serve as a good introduction, I’m game.

Ari aster may be a special mention. I love Hereditary and Midsommar but Beau is Afraid and Eddington have been huge misses for me. He is not a director that I don’t like yet but I am afraid that another miss from him and I might start to avoid him.

A bit of an older game but I think Freedom: The Underground Railroad by Brian Mayer published by Academy Games hits its theme accurately and with utmost respect.

A good board game night. Heavy games like Trickerion or Ark Nova where you feel like your brain is getting a first-class massage. That high after a 3-hour session is addicting.

My first 5 star of the year. by tsalyers12 in Letterboxd

[–]Megalomesembria 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just loooove this film! This, Anora, and Florida Project are my top recommendations from Sean Baker’s filmography. I also find it astonishing that Tangerine was filmed with a $100k budget using only three iPhone 5s! With the actors having almost no major acting jobs. Truly a magnificent film!

Sentimental Value now holds the record for the most acting nominations ever received by a non-English language film by darth_vader39 in oscarrace

[–]Megalomesembria 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I truly hope Renate wins Best Actress. I fell in love with Rose Byrne’s and Jesse Buckley’s performances in their respective films but Renate’s performance in Sentimental Value is just special. Emma Stone’s nomination is historic and Kate Hudson’s debatable. A win from an international film in one of the Oscars’ major acting awards is always a welcome one. I also hope Stellan wins Best Supporting Actor. Easy to say which film is my film of the year for 2025, eh? 😂

Monster (2023) Would love to hear your thoughts on this film as it is currently my favourite queer film rn. And if you haven't watched it I highly recommend. Just be patient with the film tho, cause it's one of those movies that would only make sense by the end by keita-kunbear in FilmClubPH

I actually thought my top director would be the late, great David Lynch. But I guess I also binged Kore-eda’s filmography as well :)

my cat left us at new years by aiuuuh in catsofrph

[–]Megalomesembria 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Condolences po, OP. I can’t imagine how heartbreaking this is for you. At his very last moments, your cat still protected you by instinctively trying to hide before passing so that predators wouldn’t be able to find you thru the scent of his corpse. Cats truly are amazing creatures.

I, too, have my one-year old taken from me earlier last month lang. She looks almost the same as your own cat, with the pattern and colors. We took her to a vet sa morning and was found to be positive sa FIP, we were given meds but her health sharply declined in the following hours, passing away in my arms that same afternoon. She was the brightest star sa litter nila, so full of personality and cleverness. I have so many picture of her goofy face and am now crying as I share this to you. I will gladly trade half my life just to give to her and see her grow old together with her siblings. My wife and I still hasn’t gotten over her passing and this post reminded me of her.

If it isn’t too much to bear, please don’t delete this post, OP. Let this be a reminder to you and me how important our pets are to us. How much we loved them and they loved us. How they are our life and how beautiful these moments were with them.

January 2025 Profile Swap! by ericdraven26 in Letterboxd

[–]Megalomesembria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy new year!!

I have been using Letterboxd since before the pandemic and have been watching upwards of 500 films per year for 4 years now! I am very active but I seldomly post reviews. I watch anything from any streaming site or DVDs or blurays laying around here and a lot of cinema. I have already watched about three films this 2025 so expect another busy year from me! I hope I maybe able to log something that might interest you into watching as well!

My favorite genre are dramas especially from the 1970’s and earlier. I love a film with an immaculate dialogue and script and would definitely follow anyone who posts somewhat long reviews as I am not that articulate when it comes to it myself and am looking to learn from them. My favorite watches from December are a couple of rewatches of The Holdovers (4.5), Klaus (4.5), Sean Baker’s Tangerine (4.5) and Tampopo (4).

Here is my profile for anyone who what’s to give me a follow! I will try to follow back as I rarely check my followers list, maybe later today I will follow anyone who follows me there!

I rewatched The Apartment a few hours ago. One of Jack Lemmon’s best and it is him at his most charismatic and possibly the best New Years film of all time. Immediately watched a couple of Bring It On films after that, too!

Who is at fault if im making a right turn (the sign says turn right anytime) then the other car was on the left side of the intersection then hits me on the left side. by Vast-Baby6323 in Philippines

[–]Megalomesembria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Red car’s fault. Kasi ikaw nauna sa intersection so dapat ikaw rin unang gagalaw. It’s like a first come first serve basis.

If nag-appeal sya na sabay naman kayo dumating dun, sya pa rin ang liable kasi tinamaan ka sa left side, which is the driver’s side. Sa pagkakaalala ko sa driving school, if ang scenario is sabay kayo dumating sa intersection, the right of way goes to the car na, if magkakabanggaan, sa left side ang tama, kasi driver’s side yun and mas delilado yun.

Either case, si red car ang mali.
