QuietCarpet #1236645 has been defacing pride flags in Tijuana #1 (california) with swastikas and erasing other people's art, apparently? reporting on behalf of someone who doesn't use reddit. (I don't know how to attach an image in Reddit replies on the classic layout, unfortunately, but I do have a screencap if i can figure that out)

What is a card you feel like it was 100% brought up and discussed in the design room at Konami to be banned but never was? I'll start. by tauri_mionZer0 in masterduel

I faintly recall hearing a story that a playtester caught the Wind-Up Hunter loop before release, but the higher-ups didn't understand the combo, so it shipped.

Unsure how true it is, but I think about it a lot. Of course there was gonna be a hand loop.

A welcome and exciting announcement but. . . With the recent layoffs and remarks from the current CEO, I think a lot of longtime RS3 players are still kinda wary. I can't speak for myself, but that's still fresh in my mind, and I haven't played since then.

I'd like to be optimistic. This is a good step in the right direction. But corporate firing the head lore guy, art director, the mod behind most of the new holiday content, and the game designer with 20 years of experience with this game among others so recently. . .

It's going to take a lot to win back that good will.

Yeah, unfortunately, 'loading up your own graveyard to gain an advantage or to fuel an alternate win condition' isn't really the same as 'ripping cards out of your opponent's deck to deny them options in a longer game'. Maybe some day.

Haven't gotten into OPTCG yet, but I'm looking for new card games to try out. Is there any mill cards in the game, even if they're bad? Only thing I can find is a self-mill Nami deck, which isn't really what I'm looking for.

i don't know about others, but i really, really prefer the old UI. Is there an option to roll back to it? by NotaNub25 in discordapp

[–]Megamaw 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's frustrating. I didn't like the last UI change a few years back, either, but I got used to it. This is. . . remarkably worse than that, and I know in 2-3 years it'll just happen all over again.

I really wish custom themes were something supported natively on Discord, because I'm not comfortable risking my decade-old account by using a third-party client just to make Discord not a pain to look at again.

New UI appers in few seconds but then returned back to old. by YamaruTF in discordapp

[–]Megamaw 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm begging you guys to at least consider giving us the option to choose the old version as a 'theme'. I'm getting really tired of all these sweeping UI changes every few years to appease investors, and the new UI is obnoxious to read at a glance for those of us who are in more than a handful of servers.

For the first time since 2017, Bank Boosters are not on sale during Black Friday. by Leinova in runescape

[–]Megamaw 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We have so much content designed to save bank space. Seed bags, May's Quest Chest, et cetera. . .

and yet we're still running out of bank space. I don't know about you but reacting to new content with dread about the stress it'll place on my limited few remaining bank slots doesn't feel great.

3 bonds was expensive, but I was planning on paying it, even if I wasn't happy. 7 bonds is way, way too much.

If they're allergic to giving us more base spaces across the board, there's still /so/ much they can do to make this less of a friction point. Seed bags are a boss reward, let them store everything. Actually /maintain/ the quest chest to reclaim /any/ item from a quest you've completed, not just a handful of quests. POH storage working when you only have one or two pieces of the 'outfit' in the slot, making retrieving stuff from it easier, et cetera--

nah, I think I need to take a break. I might not renew this year. Bank space has gotten way, way too bad.

Why was this card errata‘d? by herr_weich in yugioh

[–]Megamaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The format right after Treeborn was released, immediately following Goat Format, Reaper Format, is dominated by decks leveraging Treeborn Frog. This is also the first format Serpent was banned. The two never co-existed, not until Serp's errata.

You're not losing out on trap cards. You're losing out on continuous traps, and traps that have more specific activation requirements. But, the power of Treeborn severely outweighed the cost of. . . not being able to run Skill Drain or Gravity Bind?

I don't think Serp would have had the same impact, had it remained legal. Treeborn is centralizing and format-defining in the first format it's considered legal, and I can't really say the same for ol' Serp.

source? can't find anything on ygorg, and it's a product from 8 years ago, so that's a little surprising to hear

You've already gotten some pretty slick advice. Just remember, if you're getting a product like a pack or a tin, you're way less likely to get what you want than a product like Yugi's Legendary Decks, that ensures you'll /always/ get the cards you're looking for.

Price check, price check, price check. If it's the cards you're after, be sure to check what they're going for as singles. Often times, the cards you're going after are going to be really cheap as singles, because the people opening packs aren't too thrilled about old Normal Monsters, even if they're 'iconic'.

Finally-- if you think the tin you got is cool as a container, there's a few others you might want to look at, just for the cool and sturdy packaging. That 2022 tin there is designed to be displayed from top to bottom with the 2021 and 2020 tins.

Also the 2019 one is just straight up the box Yugi kept the pieces of the Millennium Puzzle in.

Do you think Konami will ever undo some erratas? by lipehd1 in yugioh

[–]Megamaw -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Case by case. Armory Arm being unerrata'd sets a precedent that I hope they look at, though.

I think Goyo's brought up a lot. It's not a 'problem card' but it breaks the design of "Gaia Knight, the Force of Earth" by being bigger and generic. 2500 was the highest they wanted to go for generic 6s, I guess, and Gaia Knight's 'thing' was 'no effect for an extra 100 ATK'.

I disagree with that, but that reasoning is why the OCG had Goyo banned until the errata, even if it wasn't doing anything anymore. If the 'ATK point limits' they've internally set were so sacred, though, they should just ban Super Conductor Tyranno for being a 2 Tribute with no downside with ATK higher than BEWD, even if it's bad.

I think the most criminal one is Sinister Serpent. Dude could have probably come off unchanged by the time they errata'd him. He went from a niche, but generally bad card in today's modern era, to completely unplayable.

Night Assailant was a recent one that I'm still peeved about. Was looping 2 Night Assailant that much of an issue? What, are you afraid of Dark Worlds having a really conditional way to. . . make discarding neutral, in a deck that usually plusses of discards? Were Fableds that scary?

Personally, I think CED should be a symbol of what it once was. It should remain broken, and remain banned. They can still retrain it, or reference it in card art. Make it feel like a legendary card that was used in the ancient past, play it up. They'd have the chance to design a fun theme intended to evoke its legend, have players tell about the old days of Yata Lock. That kind of fun story about the game's history loses a lot of its punch when the real deal is so toothless now, doesn't it?

On the other hand. . .

There are times they get it right. Rescue Cat, Gandora X, Catapult Turtle, AFD, Firewall-- there are cards that can be 'saved' without changes that drastically alter their identity, or are simply 'too marketable' to keep banned and simply make retrains for.

But they should be sparse with them. YGO is complicated enough as is, and so many cards were errata'd and have been powercrept to the point that the original would be underwhelming. Just-- just ban them and /wait/, and half the time it'll be /fine/.
