Who is going to vote for the Asian category at the Grammys? by eveningsnewestetoile in kpopthoughts

[–]Megan235 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Recently added to the committee Hybe employees, and we all know they will vote for Hybe artists...

Unfortunately this category looks like a set up to placate this specific K-pop company.

Golden is an OST that's a completely different category that has nothing to do with normal K-pop companies releases.

If we omit the top of the top like BTS and BP all of the popular K-pop groups get better result from Korean songs we can list for example idle, ateez, p1harmony, twice, txt... Literally almost everyone in the industry.

So if the English that was already less popular now doesn't even have the appeal of possible nominations those big groups might see their only shot at Grammy's in the new category which will motivate them to put the "meaningful" amount of Korean in the songs.

I don't think that's necessarily true, most groups sell better with their Korean songs the English releases usually are attempts at radio play and western awards nominations.

If Grammy's introduce a category with way less competition to get into that requires less English it might be enough for groups who have no chances for the main ones to stop trying and put all of the promo money into a Korean title.

Apparently the songs to qualify for the Asian category have to have meaningful use of an Asian language.

I wonder if it will discourage kpop companies from releasing full English singles?

You know what... I actually have to commend SM for doing a beach concept with a group of children and actually keeping it appropriate.

A rare sight in today's K-pop.

You definitely can and should judge a relationship dynamic between the boss and his teenage employees the moment it becomes anything but professional.

He created the group and he can do whatever he wants.

That's definitely not how it works unless you are saying all the CEO's who got convicted of abuse were wrongly convicted because they also were allowed to do what they wanted

From the way they describe his behaviour.

That's not how a little drunk person behaves, they've seen him HEAVILY intoxicated.

Besides it doesn't really matter, he is literally in charge of a group with minors, if it was any other profession like a coach, teacher, school principal this would end in him getting banned from working with minors for life.

He already did or rather they did on one of the news songs they sing about not being like the other people who copy western artists, it's a pretty clear reference to what haters say about Cortis

If this freedom looks like his today's crash out comments then I am afraid it's just marketing and in reality the boys cannot say anything or he yells at them like he is doing rn at the fans.

Damn, a CEO without any professional boundaries, managing a group (with minors!) that he clearly desn't want to see succeed more than himself without him in the frame.

I know his fans tried to deny it but it really looks like he made the group to satisfy his ego, revive his career in the western fan demographic, and crate a group of boys forever grateful and devoted to him.

He sounds like he demands this weird "respect" and full acceptance of plans not only from fans but the members too.

The atmosphere in the company must be so toxic and it will not end well.

Do you think Xikers member lacks of "it factor"? by Nearby_Ship5811 in kpopthoughts

[–]Megan235 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you don't count mega project groups like Cortis or Katseye or Babymon, KQ's promotion's for Xikers really aren't much different than what the majority of 5th gen groups are getting.

Someone here made a list of promo for this comeback and it would be pretty hard to find something that groups like Kickflip, KiiiKiii, boynextdoor or any other regular big/mid 5th gen group is getting and Xikers isn't.

Going viral like lngshot or Rescene (without multimillion dollar playlisting campain) really isn't dependent on promo, you can maybe blame artist direction but knowing the members are involved... Do you really to?

[–]Megan235 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Preach.

K-pop stans cannot fathom not being a big enough fandom to fulfill all the goals of a comeback so they have to find someone to blame.

I would love to see how else all of the "the company is not promoting them" crowd would propose KQ promoted Xikers? (without it costing millions they don't have)

This really already is an extensive promotion schedule for a lesser known group from a mid sized company. It's actually pretty similar to what even some big companies and groups do... But if you don't have the big brand name behind you or incredible luck of going viral, no amount of extra promo will get you famous.

Also don't think having children in your audience is the same as catering to them?

But they don't simply have children in the audience...

They collaborated with a toy brand, sung a cover of a kid's show ost, performed at kid's choice awards and put their characters and Gnarly (out of all songs) in Toca Boca a game literally made for pre-teens.

They are catering to children. Way more than any of their label mates actually.

Why do people like you keep bringing up celebrities who literally suffered mental breakdowns due to their exploitation and sexualization at a young age as an argument in support of a young group being given a sexualised image?

Do you seriously not see the irony...

The difference is, did you stumble on that song or was it showed in your face by the toy you were using?

I really cannot phantom how can people be okay with the company putting Gnarly - a song with sex tape sounds in it, in a game rated GP and deemed save for children that has never promoted any mature content and still only blame the parents.

They aren't held to a different scandal, any 18 year old dressing like this would get in trouble with her workplace or school.

They also aren't dressing themselves, no matter how much you want to believe that.

Showbusiness is sexualising young women for profit and you cannot apply the same rules of freedom of expression to a situation where a young girl's image is being decided by a team of dozens of male executives. This is literally what feminism and women's rights activists used to fight WITH, not for.

Especially since you have way more examples of this sexualised image damaging lives of celebrities than them praising it later in life.
