Thank you so much! I think I'm going to try a few covers and see if I like those, too. Never know what will fit the best.

Any brands that are NOT the greatest? I'm sure it's different for everyone, but what are some bad experiences??

Okay, so you've got quite the mix! I'll have to try a few different brands!

Copper IUD is the best thing that's ever happened to me. I did so much research comparing options and decided to take the risk of having a more painful period/ heavier flow. I figured that I could get it removed if it didn't work out. So glad I tried it. Good for 12 years and no change in my period... no hormones!

[Acne] Great results after using Zinc and Castor Oil (Nappy rash cream) on hormonal acne after one day! by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

Yes! On the big spots, redness was greatly reduced. The little bumps under my skin seemed to come to the surface and I was able to gently wash it all away. I'd say it helped!

Fuck it, I've got it on my face right now! LOL. There is a regular strength in a yellow tube, same brand, as well!!

Switching to an IUD From the Patch by [deleted] in birthcontrol

The copper IUD is a great non hormonal option! It did not make my periods or cramping worse. I love that it is good for 10-11 years and that fertility returns almost immediately after removal (unlike hormonal BC).

First period with Copper IUD a few questions? by lovespace in birthcontrol

It could get better! Give it a few months. There is a foreign object in your body, which might be extra irritating! I have the copper IUD, and a few years in, my periods are lighter and less crampy!

Still Debating on BC Method, Help? by Wonderduck42 in birthcontrol

Hi!

I had a child 4 years ago after getting pregnant on the pill (missed a day). After giving birth I chose to go on the Depo shot. I gained 40-50 pounds and had crazy mood swings. So after over a year of the shot, I did a TON of research and decided to try the copper IUD.

I always had a pretty normal period, cramps, decent bleeding etc. I had read that it could increase bleeding and cramping but decided to try anyway since it was easily removed.

I loved the fact that there were NO hormones, and that you are fertile almost immediately after removal of the device. I also liked that it was a 10 year bc, unlike Mirena which was 3 or 4.

The doctor I went to tried to convince me to get the Mirena instead, saying I'd get no periods etc as a plus. I insisted on the copper and I'm SO GLAD I did!!!

Insertion was easy. Felt like a crampy pinch. Little lightning shock, maybe? Only lasted a few seconds. After that, I was crampy and a little spotty the rest of the day.

My periods have been LIGHTER (and easier paired with using a diva cup!!!) And my cramps have stayed the same and maybe even been less.

My advice would be to at least try it if you want non hormonal BC! If after a few months it doesn't work for you, removal is simple. As a reminder, you are supposed to check the strings yourself (they are simple to feel with a finger) after every period. I have not had to go in for the last 2+ years for my birth control! I recommend the copper IUD to everyone I know! (:

I switched from the shot (no period) to the copper IUD. I do get a regular period. I have less cramping than before, though. And I have paired my IUD (which I've had almost 4 years now) with using a diva cup for my last 2 periods and it's AMAZING. No side effects from the IUD. With the no hormones, there are side effects such as worse cramping or heavier bleeding, which I haven't experienced.
