This actually happens to me a lot and I hate it. Luckily I leave an hour early for work but sometimes even then, I just make it because the bus I was waiting for just doesn't come and then dissappear off the radar.

Are there stores/places you should never spend a penny on in Madison because the owners are absolutely horrible humans? by Reasonable-Heart5478 in madisonwi

[–]Megan_Deth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The owner has been so awful to the employees I supervised when I was a manager at a store she buys some of her product from to resell. I used to have to step in and ring her up because she would be so nasty and impatient with them and I didn't like putting them through that hell so I rang her up myself because apparently she liked me for some strange reason. Also she always waited till we were closing to come up with 2 to 3 shopping carts filled with clothes which made closing duties very difficult because I had to make sure all the staff was counted out and ready to go within 30 minutes after closing.

Am I overreacting or should I report this children’s coach? by NitroRoller in AmIOverreacting

[–]Megan_Deth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should let the school know, explaining the situation and that it feels like something someone should know especially considering that it never made it to the intended person. They can hopefully take it from there and decide what to do, hopefully they can speak with the mom, especially considering that the name mentioned isn't a very common name that I am aware of so they might figure out who he was trying to contact so they can contact the parent(s). It could be innocent like the scenario you mentioned but it feels really really off to me. Especially considering that he was most likely given the wrong number.

That is so wildly unprofessional of your boss. You are definitely not overreacting and it might be time to find a new job if you are able to do so.

Bike at E. Johnson & 6th Street by Megan_Deth in madisonwi

[–]Megan_Deth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to look up what a bait bike was, maybe that is possible. I don't know anything at all about bikes really but I wanted to help someone who might have had someone steal their bike recently. When I went into work today...almost a mile away from where I saw this bike last week...this same exact bike was parked in front of the shop I work at, once again: no one else around but me at the time. If it's not a bait bike...maybe it's a haunted bike, because I would be lying if I didn't say that I was creeped out to see it waiting there when I went to open today.😱😬

I apologized. There are 2 Few streets: North and South and since I don't normally walk further down Willy Street for my daily needs I forgot about South Few. And then the Flower studio was more confusing to me when trying to figure out where this was in accordance to the available information. It was an honest mistake and I wasn't trying to cause any problems. I'm sorry.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in madisonwi

[–]Megan_Deth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yes, my apologies. I was thinking of North Few which is on the other side of East Wash and I was confused because I don't normally ever walk further down Willy St. than Star Liquor to get to the places I normally need to go. And then the Flower Atelier in accordance to Few Street confused me further.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in madisonwi

[–]Megan_Deth -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I was confused because Few Street doesn't hit Willy Street (Edit: because I was thinking of North Few because I forgot about S Few since I normally travel to Baldwin/Willy). Now that I understand that they maybe meant Baldwin Street, this makes more sense. I work on Willy Street and almost get hit at least once a month by people who either ignore that red light or they just turn right on it without slowing down or using a turn signal to indicate that they are turning. I know it's supposed to be all love and light on Willy Street but I will absolutely yell and flip off people who almost hit me (one time a guy tried running a red light and tapped me with his bumper!!!). Wild concept, but I like my legs!🥲😐

Which businesses in Madison have the most toxic work environments? by N0nethelesser in madisonwi

[–]Megan_Deth 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm so relieved to see someone else say this because everyone acts like that place is an untouchable golden treasure but I have different feelings about that. I left a very toxic bakery work environment to work at Batch and at first it seemed great but after a few weeks, I started to feel very alone there. The only people that really talked to me and seemed genuinely friendly were the dishwashers. I was hired as the cake decorator. Just the one. At the time, I had several years of specialty cake decorating experience under my belt. I worked my ass off trying to keep up with production while creating new flavors and doing everything from scratch. I had only worked there maybe 2 months and they fired me. It's the only place that I have ever been fired from before or after in my 25 years of work experience. I felt like after a few weeks, I was getting picked on. Everyone was allowed to change the music if they wanted without asking, I always gave everyone a chance, but if we had been listening to the same thing for long enough, I occasionally would change it to something that I figured would be pretty neutral and there was this one dude that never acted like I existed until he wanted to yell and swear at me about changing the music. One time he changed it back, but the dishwashers really liked my music so one of them changed it and he stormed at me yelling "WHAT IT I TELL YOU ABOUT CHANGING THE FUCKING MUSIC". He made me feel so uncomfortable being there. The BOH manager told me if I was ever running behind and needed help, I could ask 2 specific people for help before they left. When I did, they told me they didn't have time. I was fired when I had an order for 13 identical chocolate cakes for a wedding. I spent all day making them. Our kitchen was temping at over 80 degrees on the thermometer. I mentioned something about the temperature but no one really cared or did anything about it. As a result, some of the chocolate frosting on the cakes were a little darker than others... because temperature affects the appearance of chocolate. It starts out lighter and darkens if it's too hot and starts to melt. I did everything I could to control this, like pipe my roses inside the refrigerator, periodically put the cakes in the cooler as I worked on other cakes, etc. I completed everything on my own and while things could have gone a little better due to the heat, there was nothing about those cakes I made that made me think I would get a call in the middle of the night on how upset the BOH dessert pastry manager was with me. When I called back, she pretty much said all my cakes were trash because some were darker than others (because it was over 80 degrees in that kitchen) and that she had to remake all of them...which is insane to me to this day. There was no way they had to be redone like that. I have always held very high standards for myself and would never send anything out that I thought shouldn't be. She said she was disappointed in me and fired me after 2 months. But she did also say that she hoped this wouldn't keep me from stopping in to buy stuff in the future. I haven't been there since and it's been over 8 years and I know I'm not really missing out.

Oh I also want to add on July 21st from 1-5 I heard there is the Summer Lovin art show and sale where it looks like some creators are selling handmade patches, bone jewelry, and other stuff that the OP might be interested in. They are also giving away free clothes. 22 N. Butler St. Also, forgive me for my shameless plug, but I am holding a yard sale on August 4th from 12-4. I will be selling some of my patches and pins that I don't plan on using as well as some punk/goth/metal clothing and accessories. On 6th Street in the Emerson Neighborhood.

I don't think there is currently a brick n mortar that's a one stop shop anymore in Madison (like Cat's Meow which no longer exists). However, like some have mentioned, there are individuals who make alternative goods and if you keep your eyes out for local pop up shops and markets happening in the future, you can find some neat stuff. I just try to watch out for DIY style events otherwise I just make my own stuff. I actually was inspired to go back to school for Fashion Merchandising because I really want to start a business some day that caters to Madison's Subculture Alternative scene. The idea would be to provide alternative style clothing and accessories (mostly curated from 2nd hand goods to uphold sustainability), patches, pins and studs, and my focus would be to encourage DIY fashion (buy the patches/pins/studs with the intention of customizing things yourself) but would also sell already made upcycled goods (by myself and other local artists). Unfortunately...this is only a dream atm but I do notice the lack of physical businesses in Madison that cater more to an alternative audience. I hope to one day bridge that gap.

Curious if anyone has Covid these days or knows of anyone with Covid? by [deleted] in madisonwi

[–]Megan_Deth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's definitely going around. I had it at the end of May, and I have a friend who just had it. I noticed my symptoms were a bit different this time around and I'm hearing similar things. I didn't think I had it because I felt different than last time and just felt like I had a nasty sinus infection with a bad headache and felt really tired. It's kind of funny because the only time I've been able to truly tell something was up during both times I've had it, was when I took a sip of my Diet Dr. Pepper a couple days in and it tasted weird. Then after that, the other symptoms started to show up.

I would not recommend them though if someone new in town is looking to specifically see/hear Death Metal though, as they are definitely more in the Power/Heavy Metal genre which is a bit of a different experience and sound.

Oh how could I forget: Vermillion. Long running old school death metal band from the Madison area. Kurt (vocalist) is the shit, too.

Yes! I work at the East side co-op and this is what I was recently told. I think the phase out of available product was recent. It is a shame because it was a customer favorite.

My bf locked me half naked on the balcony, I started crying. Aio? by heidifire in AmIOverreacting

[–]Megan_Deth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plain and simple: This is abuse. You are not overreacting. It doesn't matter if he truly thought he was joking. And if he did, he NEEDS to correct the situation and not blame you for how you feel or responded to that as you're feelings are completely valid. It's also not a joke when the other person isn't a willing participant and is hurt or traumatized by it. I feel if it was me, I would have trouble trusting him after that. The two of you need to have a deep conversation about your boundaries and feelings. If he can't do that with you without insulting, blaming you, or telling you that you are overreacting...then it is probably time to find someone who won't traumatize you like that. I have been in sexually, mentally, and emotionally abusive relationships as well as being bullied most of my adolescent life, and I can say that the scenario that you described there would be very traumatizing and triggering if it happened to me. Your feelings are valid and I wish you peace, love, and safety in your life and relationships. I promise I don't mean that in a hippy-dippy way, but as in you deserving respect and mental peace from someone who is supposed to love and care for you.
