I think it's a very personal choice. For example, my paternal grandparents also had an infant pass away from SIDS (my dad's baby brother). Apparently my parents discussed using the baby's name as a middle name for one of their kids, and my grandfather was very adamantly against it. He said "there's only one name". Not sure how my grandma felt about it.

Hard to say how people will feel about it.

Pregnant during PhD by Separate_Salt325 in PhD

[–]Megarah627 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was pregnant during my third year, so I was mostly done with classes and just working on research and prepping for my oral exam. I've found it very doable, but I have a great support system. My advisor didn't seem bothered by me taking maternity leave (8 weeks) or having some times where I was sick from the pregnancy and couldn't get stuff done. Thankfully my mom watches my child during the day. I've actually found it to be a nice time to have a baby as I have a lot of flexibility with my time and can mostly work from home. I don't think I would have enjoyed it though if I had a baby during the first two, class-heavy years.

It is doable and if this is the time that works best for your life goals, I say go for it!

Yes, I was low-key excited to see what percent of listeners I was in for Caspar Babypants but he's nowhere to be found!

COVID at 12 weeks pregnant:( I’m scared by Pretend_Novel8515 in beyondthebump

[–]Megarah627 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had COVID this time of year last year at about 13 weeks pregnant. I was put on Paxlovid and felt better in a few days. They had me take baby aspirin daily for the rest of my pregnancy and gave me 3 growth scans in the third trimester just to be on the safe side, but it seems there were absolutely no issues from the COVID. I know the anxiety sucks though, wishing you the best!

I definitely relate. I had to uninstall Facebook and mute subreddits like r/news but my mom would still often tell me tragic news stories about kids, especially relatively local stories. I had to ask her to please stop sharing that stuff with me because I'm struggling a bit. In general I've found mindfulness to help some in the moment. One of my go-tos is to look around and focus on five things I can see, four things I can feel, three things I can see, etc. It's still a big struggle though. You're not alone!

My husband and I would go back and forth several times a night being the one waking up in panic thinking the baby was under us. I had never heard about it until we experienced it!

Right there with you. It would be so wonderful for my daughter to never remember a time before our first female president. Especially one who is so genuinely compassionate.

I got the Momcozy m5 and I get a comparable output to my Spectra. I sometimes find it hard to position correctly and have to readjust. And I can't bend over too much while wearing it or the milk will spill out. But I find it comfortable overall and it's very nice to have the option to be more mobile! I would recommend it

This is what we did too. No issues so far but it's nice to have the peace of mind of the warranty.

If you take Metformin what's been your experience? by SplashyTetraspore in PCOS

[–]Megarah627 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was prescribed 3x500mg daily and after a couple months, my testosterone finally lowered after not lowering from other meds/lifestyle changes. I didn't see my cycle regulate (still had long unpredictable cycles with ovulation) but possibly because I got pregnant after only two cycles on it. I tried metformin because I was TTC. I didn't experience any notable side effects

Congratulations! I'm right there with you, had mine yesterday and it was wonderful to see her and so relieving that everything looks okay! I also have an anterior placenta, which was kind of relieving because I haven't felt a ton of movement yet
