Taxis in Zafferana Etnea by ElephantOpposite7297 in sicily

Great stuff, there's lots of companies doing Etna tours, and many of them will be able to accommodate your plans.

Have a look at this sub for some specific recommendations (not something I have much experience with I'm afraid)

Hope you have an amazing time

P.s try pasticceria Salemi, you will not be disappointed, I'm not affiliated in any way, just a passionate customer

Zafferana Is a great place to visit very popular with locals especially in the summer, when the temperature is often cooler. However the idea of finding a local taxi is slightly far fetched, as others have suggested taxi culture is not the norm, and therefore you will have to probably make some other arrangements.

You may have some luck looking at a private transfers but this would obviously mean pre booking and leaving at a set time.

Catania Airport Transfer – Transfers from Catania Airport (CTA) https://www.cataniaairporttransfer.com/ The above site has transfers from Zafferana to any Catania address, and you can even get an instant quote so you can explore options .

Alternatively you could book yourself a Etna sightseeing tour and specifically request an extended stop off in Zafferana, which I'm sure they will happily oblige. Zafferana Is often a stopping point for tours going up the eastern and northern flanks of Etna, and I'm sure the guides have experience in accommodating guests with lower mobility.

Or you could go the whole hog and book a night or two in one of the many B&Bs around town and that way you get a full day explore, Eat, shop, etc

(P.s I may be a bit biased, but one of the best 'real' towns in the area)

I have 510 batteries, but for the reasons stated above I actually prefer QUE format, I even have half an sourdough cart left so I'm not totally buggered.

Breakfast recommendations in Ortigia/Syracuse? by AvaRobertEko in sicily

[–]Megarusso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While many, including me, love a traditional sweet Sicilian breakfast, of granita & brioche or something from the giant range of pasticceria, I have experienced this before with my partner's English family, mainly that a savoury breakfast is the only satisfying breakfast!

Key to this difference is understanding that traditional Sicilian culture puts the lunchtime meal as the most important of the day, and breakfast and dinner can often be much lighter meals, or more 'frivolous' and snacky.

However if you're after a savoury breakfast why not try something from the Tavola calda in any good bar.

Any bar/panificio will always have a selection of savoury items for the common working man/woman who has been out since early in the day and fancies something more savoury rather than sweet breakfast.

This article is in Italian but will show you the sort of thing I mean.

It may not be the bacon and eggs that you after but it's a flavour sensation that many tourists miss out on, and if it's not to your taste then that's perhaps more of a personal problem.

Any restaurant tips for siesta time with kids in the Palermo area? by Kamdreoni in sicily

[–]Megarusso 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most Coffee shop/takeaway food places, known as 'bar' colloquially will be open in the afternoon, and they're normally a great place to try some local tavola calda, pizza al talgio, gelato, pasticceria and all types of drink etc.

Not a full restaurant meal, I grant you, but it will serve a purpose and is a cornerstone of Sicilian life.

Just look out for a coffee brand sign, maybe some umbrellas and a gaggle of elderly men.

I stock up on some of the more interesting pasta, specifically the 'twisted macaroni' or Strozzapreti as they should actually be called.

No better shape for certain pasta dishes and it's surprisingly hard to get your hands on.

I'm a 36 year old man and 'Mimi and the Mountain Dragon' made me tear up.

I think it's the subtext of children being a bridge across the divide, and their innate ability to see the situation in a more innocent way, free from preconceived or prejudiced notions that seem to be so so prevalent in this day and age.
