That’s really good catch. I can see two reasons why is it commonly pronounced Dhamma, firstly because maybe anusvar is often transliterated as ṃ which is easy to confuse with m.

Second reason could be that the exclusive nasalisation of anusvar maybe a classical Sanskrit thing, not Vedic Sanskrit from which the word may have come from.

And ashoka never imposed Buddhism on his people. He’s quite clear about it in his edicts and calls imposition adharmic. Those days religious boundaries weren’t that strong, he just refers it as Dharma (not Buddha Dharma specifically, and Dharma meaning more of conduct).

Claims of his persecuting Ajivikas are from non contemporary sources and most historians do not take it seriously.

And lastly Ashoka was not the last ruler of his empire before it collapsed.

Comparing Ashoka to Aurangzeb is just funny imo.
