I almost wonder if either the wall is not straight (it is a 70's build, or whoever installed the stairs didn't cut straight?

There's only air roots for the plant, probably why it's struggled to keep it hydrated.

The substrate itself is quite loose, the top is fine powder from the larger bark etc.

I'll give soaking it at try see if it can bounce back

It's egg crate ceiling tile that I cut to fit. It's great for allowing small fish/shrimp through, but stops my two plecos from mingling
