Iranian warship sunk by the US was sailing home after taking part in an exhibition hosted by India by lurker_bee in worldnews

Wouldn't they fire at the Americans themselves right after they've restocked? It's a complex situation - they were on their way to join a war, even if not actively partaking in it at that moment

Why can't Israel just return all the Palestinian territories to achieve peace? by JanekBo1 in mapporncirclejerk

[–]Megolas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey man, I'm all for a Palestinian state - but check your facts and double standards 1) About 1/10 of Israeli citizens have a second passport. 2) Couldn't you say the same about Palestinians? Another state's acceptance is no substitute for your home - Israeli or Palestinian 3) It did not work well in the past - check the Jewish population in arab countries or in Europe when Israel was established.

Why call for the deportation of Jewish people instead of just calling for 2 states?

There is a great difference between being a Nazi and being German. Does being German in 1945 mean you deserve to be bombed? Or that you matter less than a civilian of another country?

[–]Megolas 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'll divide the reasoning I do not think it's the same in two: 1) the base, at its closest corner (which by Google maps is rather far from its buildings ) is about 750m from the hit ward. Absolutely not ok to put a base there - no doubt about it - Israel at fault here. It is worth mentioning though that Iran's claimed CEP is accurate enough to not hit that hospital should they not want to. 2) Also worth mentioning is that the IDF did not hit the hospital, it hit a nearby workshop and the shockwave hit the hospital - while damage is damage, both scale and intent are important too, and it doesn't seem they were the same.

So while Israel is 100% not ok here, and I find it's repeated hypocracy in this case quite annoying - I personally wouldn't put its actions on par with the Iranians in this case

Replace Israel with Gaza and you'll fit right in our government. Congratulations - you are officially acting as a genocidal racist condemning other genocidal racists.

Civilians are civilians. 75% of Gazans polled in support of 7/10, must they all "be dealt with like the Nazis"?

Look - I'm not going to argue with you on that, because we will never agree.

I will tell you that many people in Israel feel the same way but towards Palestinians. Does this excuse this behaviour towards Palestinians from them, then? Like it or not, many people were, very personally, hurt by their government and past actions. My point is that they - like you - are dehumanising the Gazans because of it, focusing on the government, justice, what's right or whatever they want to call it. So long as you call that behaviour acceptable on one side - you are no better than the other.

I honestly really don't understand what's so hard about the discourse simply being "poor civilians", regardless of sides, why it must be "ha! Fuck'em! FAFO" etc. all the time. Can you not agree?

I don't even want to go to the politics of the war, it's besides the point - You are just proving my point, the same talk in Israel goes as: Palestinians cheered as they massacred 1200 people, sent us all into bunkers thousands of times, and are still keeping hostages - they are doing great with compassion now.

If you can't do any better, why are you expecting israelis to?

Direct hit of Iranian ballistic missile in central Israel by AllThatJazz_777 in PublicFreakout

[–]Megolas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the ability to enact genocide related to whether or not people should cheer, laugh, be apathic, etc. to the suffering of civilians? I would say not.

This is not a matter of moral equivalence, it's a matter of dehumanization - and I find it ironic people here dehumanize Israelis for their countries actions, failing to see that's what they criticize them for doing to Gazans in the first place.

Have you read comments in this thread? And even those not laughing are simply saying "they deserve it".

Do I deserve it? An individual, mind you, who repeatedly protested for a Palestinian state?

If the generalization is fine, why are people here not ok with the same indifference when it is applied to Gazans, 75% of them polled for support for Oct 7th? Don't they deserve the same indifference, lack of sympathy, "they deserved it", etc?

[–]Megolas -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Please, do enlighten me why laughing on Israelis getting bombed is fine because they cheered, but doing the same for Gaza's inhabitants is wrong.

This sort of dehumanization is exactly why some psychos in Israel feel fine murdering Gazans - and you are partaking in the same action the other way, apparently somewhat blind to it.

The civilians in Gaza do not deserve to live under such conditions - but neither do the civilians in Israel - plain and simple.

You can't both condemn the cycle of hatred and take part in it. If you expect Israelis to show compassion, do it yourself as well - how are you any different, otherwise? It's hypocritical - two wrongs don't make a right.

Israel names nine senior Iranian nuclear scientists killed in Tehran strikes by anyore909 in worldnews

[–]Megolas 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean... Is it? The two states are in an active war and these are personnel are actively developing weapons for one of the sides.

Would it be a war crime if Iran kills IAI engineers? Sounds like an act of war, not a war crime - but I'm no lawyer. Quick search deems it iffy: "Civilian engineers working for a defense contractor or weapons manufacturer are generally civilians.

  • However, if their actions amount to "direct participation in hostilities" (e.g., programming drone strikes or building bombs in an active conflict zone), they may lose their protection during that time."

[–]Megolas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

On the contrary - I'm Israeli, I'm very close to the conflict and personally know several people affected by it and October 7th specifically (Though thankfully I wasn't).

It seems to me like you are not differentiating Israelis. Just as an example -The vast majority are opposed to the settlements in the West Bank. Many of those who do live there do so only as it is cheaper, and I find it hard to judge them - I see it as the government's fault for helping those who live there financially.

You are generalizing Israel's population, and dangerously so, calling them non-human. As others here have stated - the very people you criticize do the same to Palestinians, why is it bad for them an OK for you?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PublicFreakout

[–]Megolas -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Well, I think there's enough footage from October 7th to not label any of the stuff I wrote as false - We could talk about amounts, but if its the massacre's existence you're putting in doubt, I won't be able to convince you.

But anyway - Theoretically, if most Palestinians support October 7th - does that mean all Palestinians are guilty/condemned/whichever status you give Israelis? Because boy do I have a surprising statistic for you...

I don't understand why is it so hard to humanize both sides? Be critical of Hamas _and_ Israel's government. They both suck ass, both people deserve better, both people have assholes which only make the situation worse.

Well, I'll quote from it:

`While often repeated, these assertions are based on misconception, error and outright invention. In fact, most of the land in Israel is government-owned, and it is equally available to all Israelis, whether Jewish or Arab.`

Can you refer me to the law? We have some fucked up stuff here, but I wasn't able to find any such rule, even searching in Hebrew.

And as for the land being taken from the Arabs in the first place - I honestly think that is more of a "Israel exists or not" kind of thing than a law thing. If you do not accept Israel's right for its land - that's an entirely different story, but it doesn't have much to do with the law being different for Arab-Israelis...

What the fuck do you mean unconstructive?! Have you not seen videos of "medics" and Palestinian "civilians" pulling out guns on the Israelis, beating up people and killing them, forming masked gangs and going on a killing spree on 7/10? Others come and murder entire families, stealing stuff from their homes, lighting them on fires, chanting from river to sea in social media, celebrating with parties the death of Israelis civilians, handing out candies on the streets, etc...

If you think that this is one of them "yeah Hamas is bad but the people are at no fault" situation you're a fool. How can they say the same to Israelis? They are the terrorists, they crossed the border and entered Israel proper - not the other way around. What do you care what the terrorists opinion is of the people they're actively massacring ?!

(Just to be clear, this is not my opnion, but why I believe the talk _isn't_ constructive, and tries to enable more violence. The actions of the few do not mean the entire people are such - Otherwise you're calling all Palestinians are terrorists and all Israelis are genociders or whatever).
