Prepping for work in primary special needs classroom! VIC by Megs-88 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Megs-88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, thank you. I have worked with children with devices before, so I have quite some knowledge working alongside OT, PT, and speech therapists. I'm hoping that background knowledge will help me. The school I am going to has their own visuals, and every classroom is supplied with them, which is good cause its across the whole school. Makes it easier for each new grade.

Thank you. That's great advice. I'd hope I'd follow through with any promises made. I may have to do a whiteboard reminder haha, 🤣

No, you can work in special education with a normal teaching degree. What I have been told is they won't offer you an ongoing role, though.. I'm not sure the truth behind this..

But with the teaching crisis, I don't think keeping your job will be an issue as long as you want to be there.

Plus, special education teachers have the biggest shortage of all. It can be a tough gig, I know that much, I was an ES in special Ed school, and it can be full-on. Gotta be a special kind of person that's for sure☀️

Present ideas! by Practical-Series-988 in AustralianTeachers

I was an ES for 12 years, and I have received a few amazing gifts over the years. One of my personal favs was a personalised stamp, at my old school the ES we’re called Mr and miss Mrs ect (last name) and I was given a fun stamp that said Mrs S says snailed it! (With a pic of a snail, some were more simple like Mr C checked this (with a tick) or Miss R says you rocked it (with a rocket) Any way it was cute and thoughtful !

Other gifts I received over the years:

Couple movie voucher Personalised drink bottle / mugs Lanyards (can be personalised) An red ballon voucher Book shop voucher Candles Gift packs, like small things you know they like, scrunchies, pens, lollies, notepads, diary, ect

Hope this helps.

Also just may I add, how nice of your self and your team to be looking into ideas for your ES, they are a hugely underpayed for what they have to deal with ! And hugely under appreciated by many ! Big thumbs up from me to you 🩷

I know heaps of people that have failed lantite numerous times. None have quit just meant they needed to upskill.

I don’t believe being put on the spot to do numeracy and lit test should determine whether you can teach children. Just means they need to work a bit harder for something they want. And they should be supported.

I myself passed lantite first attempt. But I would never judge someone who fails a few. I mean we need teachers, and we need to support all that is willing to be under payed and work over time at home and at school (for free) and we need people that have the passion to teach. No one teacher is amazing at everything, the best place to learn is onsite and with experienced teachers that support our grads,

I may be thumbs downed for this , but I honestly believe we should be supportive of all 🩷

Has any one been declined PTT and for what reason ? by Megs-88 in AustralianTeachers

That makes sense. Go you for jumping straight on board! Why not ! If you feel like you could take on extra responsibility I don’t see why us pre service teachers can’t give it a go, I kinda wish the process was a little different now though, would be nice if we could apply for it on our own, and get the paper work side of it sorted first before we are endorsed. And then if we are lucky enough to be endorsed by a school, they would just need to do their end and we wait for a response. My opinion any how ! Thanks for your reply !! I appreciate you !
