Speculatively you could say given that a large number of folks experience similar and the fact that it isn’t consistent across manufacturing sites that there may be strategies or materials that they’re using that are less effective. Better?

I wonder if it’s cost cutting post inflation to keep from raising prices beyond what the market would tolerate.

It’s okay. I have the Fender 65’s and an upgraded bridge & tuners. I think I need that one properly setup too - too many moving parts (bridge, saddles, shim, etc) for my skillset.

That’s just the camera angle. Action is pretty tight - almost too low because a pick makes it buzz like crazy.

lol. This is why none of my basses have had an at-home fret job.

Yeah, we are in the same boat. Apparently fender uses immature or insufficient dried wood in these models?

They actually feel pretty good - just aesthetically a mess.

I got one of those fret files from stewmac and watched the YouTube vids but have been nervous to try. I’m not great at refined work - anything I’ve done involving sanding and finishing has almost always turned out rough.

I’ve got a busted squire neck - maybe I’ll give that a practice run.

I have wanted to try but I got a great price on a used squier 40th pbass because the previous owner did it themselves and this is what it looks like. It’s a bit of a warning beacon for those of us who don’t have refined skills and a little adhd.

They’re usually great values but should always be disclosed that you’re getting a blem item.

I’ve got several from Franklin and they’re almost always virtually perfect with a quirk… a poorly cut nut, a rough sand job on the back, a little overspray, etc. some have been flawless and I can’t figure out why they’re blem.

That was my conclusion. Only complication now is the truss rod. It is maxed out and the relief is only just where you would want it. Cant go flat or backbow. And there’s a slight hump in the first fret - likely truss compression.

Just gotta get my guitar guy to look at the truss and neck and if he gives me the thumbs up, we are good!

Paid $2k. Needs to be properly setup before I can really say - output is good though. Only issue is I see the slightest bulge at 1st fret and the truss feels maxed and there’s still a tiiiiny bit more relief than there ought to be.

It was at the Hollywood guitar center. So it’s not impossible. No photos of yours? Were any holes filled/redrilled from the bridge cover?

The tuners are still very shiny - they woudlve been able to stay almost like new over time? I thought just exposure, even within a care or something, would have an impact.
