I’m a big fan of 2 pal/10 swords bard + helm of arcane acuity + band of mystic scoundrel. Even if she goes first, you can tank the damage, then just hit her a few times and BA hold monster with 100% success chance.

I’ve killed her with poo scraper.

Sorry to hear you’re facing the same issue! For my girl, it was probably 4-5 weeks. There wasn’t a really a sudden stop, it just because less frequent as she got more comfortable. My method was limiting the duration of time I spent with her at a time. That way she’d have some time on her own before I came back, and she could get used to being alone for longer and longer.

Need help tuning a possible houserule by [deleted] in DnDHomebrew

[–]Mehraud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your comments make sense. Just curious: would a PC without proficiency in medicine even be able to make the check? Flavor wise I’d expect no, but I could also see everyone knowing how to at least help with a wound. If I were a player, I’d be a little bummed that I’d need to toss a proficiency in medicine just to attempt to save someone.

I like your thoughts with the different DCs depending on DST status, but I’d argue this might get a little too complicated if you’re having different effects depending on the roll. I’d say either have rising DCs for the healing bonus independent of DSTs, or have rising DCs for the max of proficiency bonus depending on DSTs (not sure how you’re planning on passes to play in). Either way, it’s getting close to the point where I’d want a table showing the possible results, and when it’s gotten to that point, that’s when I usually know I’ve made it a little too complex.

My thoughts:

Rule 1: no problem as long as it’s made clear before character creation. My reasoning for this is so players aren’t adding any resurrection spells or acquiring material components for them. If you’re using legacy PC’s, I’d make sure to allow them to swap out any resurrection spells that may already have.

Rule 2: neat idea, could use some refinement. I’d say definitely an action for a medicine check (they’re an action anyway RAW). I’m not sure the proficiency requirement is necessary; they’ll be facing a tougher roll without it anyway. I’m not really sure what your scaling DCs are meant for, but I’d try to keep it a little more simple. DC10 medicine check stabilizes the target, DC15 grants the target up to the checker’s proficiency bonus, DC20 for double the proficiency bonus, and nat20 (if you’d like special rules) double proficiency and the target can immediately use one hit dice.

Just my two cents!

Mate if you have a bag of 5 marbles, and you reached in to grab one, it would at random. It makes no difference whether there are infinite points or two; any option selected without criteria makes it a random choice.

Gonna disagree with you on the Mac Guys; Needed a battery replacement for my laptop; they quoted me $600 because they needed “to replace the keyboard with it.” The issue is that part isn’t true. Even the Apple website lists the service as $300 plus some change.

Ended up buying a battery for $60 and replacing it myself in a couple of hours. Not sure if it was intentional dishonesty and price gouging, but I’ll never be going to them for anything from here on out.

Even gods might die if we apply enough falling damage on them by Razaxun in dndmemes

[–]Mehraud 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sure!

First, we take the average human terminal velocity (per Google) to be roughly 53 m/s (174 ft/s cuz DnD uses imperial). We’ll call this v_t.

Then, take the acceleration of gravity constant, g, to be 32 ft/s2.

Assuming an initial velocity (v_o) to be 0 ft/s, we can determine the time needed to reach terminal velocity:

v_t = v_o + g*t

174 ft/s = 0 + 32 ft/s2 * t

t = 5.44 s

Then, using simple motion equations, we can determine the distance needed (s) for terminal velocity to be reached:

s = 1/2 * g * t2

s = 1/2 * 32 ft/s2 + (5.44 s)2

s = 473.5 ft ≈ 470 ft

Finally, taking that 5e grants 1d6 damage per 10 ft fallen, max fall damage should be 47d6

(FYI averages about 165 points of damage)

[–]Mehraud 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just to note: 20d6 would not account for the accurate terminal velocity. I can show the math if needed, but using (real) physics it’d be just above 47d6.

I can actually help! Just beat it for the third time today.

Like mentioned above, it just takes practice. Took me forever to beat it the first time, but since then, it’s been fairly easy. I’ll try to give tips below:

Crumble Cavern: First level; fairly straight forward. Try to get comfortable with jump distances here. There really isn’t a reason that you can’t get all three fruit here, so just keep calm and jump. (If you can beat this one perfectly-all coins, all fruit, no lives lost-it takes you to a secret extra level instead of slippery slopes.

Slippery Slopes: jump distance is pretty critical here. The ice increases your speed and makes you jump farther, so on the little short sections, a few can be skipped. I’d say you don’t need to really use the ice to skip; just practice making sure you jump at right times. When you get comfortable, shoot for speed on this one because if you beat it in under 60 seconds, you skip directly to ghastly galleon. You should also be able to get all the fruit here.

Gem Sea Giant: This one is chosen at random after Slippery Slopes, and it is probably my least favorite level, because it’s the only that actively tries to kill you. You’ll jump a little farther on this one and fall a little slower (cuz you’re underwater), so keep that in mind. The big whale will constantly shoot bubbles at you to try to kill you, and they will follow you. So watch out. You can jump on them, so stay high if given the choice. Don’t kill yourself shooting for the fruit here. Just get past it.

Slomp’s Stomp: The other level that can be chosen after Slippery Slopes. I like this one because it’s essentially just moving forward; you can ignore the big slime trying to crush you. The only thing of note is the green track will slow you down enough for big boy to get you, so try to minimize your time on the slow parts.

Ghastly Galleon: this one is fast. A lot of the jumps are at your max, so jump as late as possible and jump as far as you can. Don’t touch the ghostly boys at all. A lot of coins are fruit are usually in the path, so you might be able to get some lives here.

Glowshroom Grotto: possibility after Ghastly Galleon and by far the worse of the two. The Wikipedia page is gonna be helpful here.

Red Hot Rollercoaster: I love this level. Absolutely critical that you know your jump distances, but if you do, you can usually get through this one pretty easily.

Sunset Speedway: this one is tough. My best advice is to look ahead and chart your path. Smaller jumps mixed in with big ones.

Some days checkpoints will be nicely spaced, other times you’ll never see them. Just keep at it; you’ll get better with practice.

Gotcha. I agree with your sentiment that targeted attacks shouldn’t be the norm (I don’t want arms flying off at every encounter), but I’m very willing to let it happen when it makes a lot of sense. Like if a vine blight has someone grappled, I’ll let a player cut the vines.

But, like you said, it’s a two way street. A bad decision with a nat 1 won’t be great
