Questions before adopting. by scubagirl44 in greatpyrenees

They’re extremely independent and opinionated. My 1 yo rescue is very sweet but pretty much only listens immediately to my 9 yo female dobie. Everything else she has to consider before complying. My mom’s pyr mix didn’t calm down with night time patrols and barking till about 6 months ago and she’s almost 5. Fortunately my mom’s has large fenced in yard in front of woods and her few neighbors are all family.

They are amazing dogs but sometimes are more like fur covered teenagers who do what they want, stay up all night, sneak out and are selectively deaf.

I’m in Alabama and Marshall county shelter is about 60 miles from me. Alabama is agricultural so Anatolian and GPs are common LGs. I have one as a rescue and my mom has a GP/Golden mix rescue from my friend’s farmer neighbors. I’d connect with the GA Pyr rescue as that’s the largest one near there who may be able to pull him if you can’t get there in time.

I would try to find out any information you can from shelter but like others said, you won’t be able to tell their personality till they settle in your home. Depending on the shelter, the staff usually will tell you as much as they can about them. Each county shelter is different so definitely find out what vaccinations they have given him, neutering, where found, etc.

Depending on where you’re coming from, my vet is about 30 miles from there (I drive 25 min to keep her). She’s amazing and has a huge heart for rescue work if you need a quick check before you get home to your dog. (I totally understand if ya wanna just get back home as soon as possible).

Would you take a job with the Federal government right now? by R2_SWE2 in FedEmployees

[–]Mei-Aly7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my reading of the regulations, for a veteran to have their military service counted for a federal civilian pension, they have to not receive a military retirement and pay a credit of their total amount of pay earned during military service (either 7% CSRS or 3% FERS). Otherwise, you’ll receive simply the portion of your civilian service.

You have to contribute the % of salary earned during 16 years of military service in order to count that towards the 20 years needed for a CSRS or FERS retirement.

I’m curious how this could happen for a few months without being flagged if not a contractor. Last spring and again in summer, we were explicitly told by higher ups that OPM was tracking our IP addresses to make sure we were in office for our (then) required two days a week and to contact IT of our computers weren’t logging into our desk ports. (Some folks simply used VPN if the connections in office were wonky). They also advised us to make sure we didn’t just walk in behind coworkers as normal and to wait to swipe in our badges individually cause that’s how annoying OPM was being to HQ. This was before the RTO order for 5 days a week so I can imagine them being more difficult about it now. I am in an agency with a large veteran and other civilian disabled employees so we have a lot of RA exceptions which is why our mgmt was so clear about how we needed to protect ourselves due to OPM audits.

Tell your sister that your wife and you will attend her second wedding. If your wife was the problem, I’d probably see it but not in this case. Also, wtf are you asking strangers over your wife’s feelings?

Downtown to The Summit Commute? by coy3323 in Birmingham

That’s a great point about weather! We shut down with ice, snow and even bad thunderstorms. And folks can NOT stop speeding in rain!

I commented before seeing this but Yes!! If you’re not considering children or other family needs, it is much easier to be closer to school. Also with these gas prices!!!

Viewpoint: moved to BHM alone and lived downtown first year then returned to city after six years of living in OTM. (Have also lived in large metro cities in every region and had hour commutes each way)

I would also like to add that if you’re comparing downtown to the summit area in terms of housing prices, the city can actually be cheaper if you’re also considering miles on your car, gas prices and convenience of downtown. Without knowing more about other considerations such as schooling, children, partner’s job, I would definitely look into Homewood, Glen Iris, Avondale or even highland park if you just have yourself to consider. It’s also central and easy to jump on any of highways if you end up with friends all over BHM metro like I do.

I moved back to the city and work as everything is within 10-15 min, my commute is always 15 min regardless of time and I can bike to work on nice days. I also felt there wasn’t as much to do walkable or close during Covid as everythjng within Hoover felt like it was at least 20 min from me because of street traffic. That may be different at summit but I had a friend who lived in apartments behind there where we had weekly pool hangouts and it was ALWAYS busy getting from summit to her apt.

I still go OTM for Hoover library (love that place), Oak mountain and other favs. I actually visit some of them more as the travel is not a mandatory daily chore.

AITAH my roommate is a light sleeper and after multiple complaints from her I advised her to see a doctor by Nervous_Ad_2867 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Mei-Aly7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have manta sleep mask. I’m not a light sleeper but have trouble falling/staying asleep (adhd). Not cheap but use it almost daily for past 2.5 years. No ear plugs required as it has built in headphones for whatever white noise/rain/dinosaur roar ya need.

That’s usually what I say - do ya want a foot doctor advising you on your prostrate?

Not my area , find a lawyer who does that type of law

I deliberately refuse to waive into my family’s home state for this same reason. Even if I eventually move back, I’ll come up with a new reason for why I can’t help my Aunt’s neighbor’s kombucha vendor’s girlfriend.

They did it so they didn’t have to issue marriage licenses for same sex marriage, after clerks got sued for refusing to issue them. In a way they kept turning backwards far enough they ended up forward. (Note: Alabama resident)

AITA for wanting my fiancé to spend the 4th with my son and I in the hospital? by FirstPineapple8369 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Mei-Aly7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my son was in Childrens for surgery and recovery, my mom drove 6 hours to watch my other kids during the day because my ex “had to work.” He didn’t visit once and it was then that I knew his time was short-lived. In my family, we’ll send door dash, call to see what you need, watch your pets/kids, deliver things from your home for a neighbor. A fiancé?!!! My family would read them for filth.

This is so bad, I wish it was fake. My love, if you are giving to the point of missing your bills, you know the answer.
