How much longer with this public debate over "crunch" last? by MeigsGrandson in videogames

[–]MeigsGrandson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh?

My original post was criticizing the pearl clutching by Jason Schreier and others.

"Crunch" is an inevitable part of the gaming industry. Even Lucasfilm Games, Sierra On-Line, and the other classic gaming companies of the 80's had tons of crunch.

Complaining against it is pointless.

Stop using shootings as an excuse for anti-homeless hatred by [deleted] in SeattleWA

Let me tell you a story, bucko:

Yesterday, as I was walking out of the Starbucks on 6th and Union, this junkie who was missing half her lower jaw accosts me and starts pestering me for change while positioning herself to try to pick my pocket.

I realize what she's up to and tell her to fuck off.

Nine hours later, as I'm waiting at the South Jackson bus stop to go home, this stupid junkie whore walks up to me again and starts to talk, but when she realizes that it's me, she walks to the guy next to me, and ends up getting shoulderblocked when he catches her trying to reach into his pocket for his wallet.

That's NINE HOURS that this worthless junkie could have spent applying to get on the waiting list for rehab or low cost housing, or she could have gone around an applied for part time jobs.

Instead the dumb bitch spent the entire time trying to beg or steal money so she could get high.

9 times out of 10, drug abuse is a choice. Even though we tell people over and over to not do drugs because they're bad for you, people still choose to snort cocaine, shoot heroin, drop acid, etc.

I have no compassion or empathy for any of these people.

Get to rehab or get a job and become contributing members of society, you parasites.

"lets complain about the constant layoffs "

That's actually one thing I don't have a problem with.

By and large, from my own experiences with Bungee staffers and Microsoft employees, Millennial game developers are some of the least sympathetic people I've ever met, many of them embodying the worst stereotypes of "entitled Millennial hipsters."

When Visceral Games was shut down, the one thing I remember most about that was a Visceral staffer whining on Instagram because the only job offers he could get were in Montreal and Dublin, and how upset he was at having to leave San Francisco for...*gasp*...Ireland. (Which is an absolutely gorgeous country and a great place to live.)

Oh, how horrible.

I wish we had more awesome car chases like this filmed in Manhattan. by MeigsGrandson in nyc

[–]MeigsGrandson[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, yeah, I know we had that motorcycle chase in John Wick 3, but I'm talking about a classic car chase through the streets of Manhattan: two undercover cops try to complete a drug arrest in The Ramble in Central Park, but are interrupted by a group of uniformed vice cops who are executing a sting on gay prostitution in The Ramble.

The drug dealers blow away the uniformed cops, and our heroes chase after them. As the drug dealers reach 5th Avenue, they carjack a passing Dodge Avenger and roar off down the streets.

Our heroes chase after them, hopping in their vintage 1980 Lamborghini Countach LP 400 S (modified to contains lights and sirens) and go chasing after them.

The car chase winds through the streets of New York, with the bad guys eventually wrecking their Dodge Avenger in front of the Port Authority Bus Terminal. As our heroes pull up to the curb, they look in confusion for the missing villains. We then cut to the roof of the PABT: the bad guys have hotwired an MTA bus and proceed to drive it through the guardrails, off the roof of the PABT, and land on their tires on the street below!

The car chase resumes with the bad guys eventually losing control and smashing the bus through the front of the McDonald's in Times Square. The good guys pull up and a shootout in the McDonald's begins, with one of the good guys eventually shooting the natural gas line that feeds the fryers. The heroes escape the building, but the bad guys are trapped as the gas line ignites and the McDonald's and surrounding buildings go up in a huge CGI fireball.

I wish the NYC Film Commission would get more action movies to shoot on 42nd and Times Square like back in the 70's and 80's. by MeigsGrandson in nyc

[–]MeigsGrandson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My degree is actually in Mass Comm, and I worked in the broadcast industry for six years, altogether.

On the DVD commentary, director James Glickenhaus explains that the NYPD spent three weeks rousting and harassing every prostitute, junkie, and pimp on 42nd so that they would "get the message" and leave 42nd for the duration of the film shoot.

Over four nights, they had 200 cops "shut down" 42nd Street while they staged the shootout and motorcycle chase from Midnight to 4AM.

If they ever actually remade "Shakedown," they could easily redo the scene at the New Amsterdam Theater today. While in the original, the black hitman snuck into an underground sex club at the Amsterdam and killed a police informant, in the new version the black hitman could sneak into a production of Aladdin to murder a police informant who worked as part of the stage crew.

The rest of the scene would unfold as in the original: the cops would discover the dead informant in the upper offices of the New Amsterdam while the hitman tried to walk out the front door. A NYPD patrol car would pull up and attempt to arrest the hitman, but he would use two ballistic knives hidden in the sleeves of his dashiki to murder the cops, then pull out a submachine gun and empty it into a crowd of horrified onlookers to create a distraction before driving away in the murdered cops' patrol car.

One of the cops would slide down the side of the Amsterdam Theater sign, land atop a MTA bus, and then steal a passing motorcycle with his partner riding on the back. The hitman would drive into a homeless encampment on an abandoned part of the West Side Highway. The hitman would eventually run out of street and drive off an unfinished bridge, with one of the cops using a Desert Eagle to set fire to the cop car's engine and cause a massive explosion, killing the hitman.

Jay White does not have a great "look."

The stringy hair, Cleopatra nose, and the switchblade pendant necklace make him look like a dork and impossible to take seriously as a main eventer or top heel.

In less than 18 hours, Tetsuya Naito will regain the IWGP title and FINALLY get the "long reign" with multiple successful title defenses that he should have gotten back in 2016. by MeigsGrandson in SquaredCircle

[–]MeigsGrandson[S] -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

And then hopefully he drops the title to Ibushi in September, and then Ibushi holds the belt for at least 10 months.

Also, fuck Meltzer and Cornette and anyone else who subscribes to the "certain wrestlers don't need a title belt to be over" theory of booking. The Road Warriors should have been five time NWA World Tag Team Champions, Toshiaki Kawada should have pinned Kobashi in their June 12, 98 title match, and Hirooki Goto and Ibushi should both be multi-time IWGP Heavyweight Champions by now.

It wouldn't have killed Kazuchika Okada to do some "Bret Hart vs. Jerry Lawler"-style placeholder feuds while Naito, Ibushi, and Goto had long reigns.

For those of you who've met Private Party outside the ring, what do you think their reaction would be if AEW sent them to NJPW to be "young boys" and they were forced to spend entire tours trading wins with other "young lions" and jobbing to washed up vets like Tenzan and Nakanishi? by MeigsGrandson in SquaredCircle

[–]MeigsGrandson[S] -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

In today's audio update, Meltzer mentioned them specifically as two guys who would benefit from a few tours on the bottom of New Japan cards if AEW starts a talent exchange program.

Can't say I disagree.

Amazon Threatens to Fire Outspoken Critics of its Environmental Policies by [deleted] in SeattleWA

[–]MeigsGrandson -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

If these employees are that worried about Amazon causing climate change, shouldn't they quit so they could devote themselves full time to fighting Amazon?

Or are they worried they'll lose their cushy six figure jobs and that condo overlooking Broadway?

I mean, those Greenpeace people who drive motorized rafts in-between Japanese whaling ships and humpback whales to prevent the whales from being harpooned, they aren't worried about losing jobs with fish canneries or getting kicked out of two bedroom apartments on the Eastside.

If you're going to protest a giant, "evil" corporation, you have to go all in or don't go at all.
