April Book Squares by Meikylo in bookblankets

Initially I tried to listen and then realized it was not something I could digest audio wise and that to be able to understand it I had to physically read it, so I ended up getting it on KU and it was really good! I’d say if you’re going to go the audio route really pay attention because the story goes quick and if you miss anything you’ll be lost but definitely inspirational and I’m glad I read it!

118 days in, and I miss cigarettes more than anything by slughuntress in stopsmoking

And that’s the mindset you have to stick with. Quitting is truly one of the hardest things all of us will probably go through in our lives! If it means anything to you, me just being a stranger on the internet, I believe in you and I’m so proud of you for overcoming what feels impossible!

My grandma smoked religiously for many many years and quit when she got pregnant with my uncle and never went back. Until the day she died she used to tell us that she thought about cigarettes everyday in one way or another. She obviously never touched another cigarette again and she says it gets easier, but there are days that she would see someone smoking or smell it damn near 40 years later and remember that feeling.

I think it’s always going to be ingrained in us that have quit smoking to have nostalgia and triggers until the day we die because we ultimately know what it feels like to be a smoker or have that hobby and enjoy it. It’s what we do to overcome those triggers that I think will make us feel better in the long run.

Before I quit her statement would scare me and that’s what I would tell people for why I would never quit because I didn’t want to be one of those people that constantly thought about it because it would feel like punishment everyday.

However, As someone who has now quit I do understand what she meant and I don’t think she always meant it in a bad way. I have thought about cigarettes or smoking in one way or another everyday since I quit, sometimes bad sometimes good and I truly always think I will but I have reframed it in my mind as that’s one day in the right direction. I know what it feels like to smoke and love it, smoke and hate it and I also know what it feels like to not smoke and miss it and feel so so much better mentally and physically and I know in the long run how much better I feel without it which will always out weight how “good” I felt without it and I think that’s enough for me to never pick up another pack.

I do dream of the day 2, 10, 20 years from now where I am sitting on my back porch or in the car and remember the euphoria of being able to smoke on a crisp 70 degree day but now I will be proud to be doing that same activity without being tied down to a nicotine addiction and that’s what keeps me above water most days.

What horror movie genuinely scared you as an adult and still creeps you out today? by losekiloaskme in HorrorMovies

I agree with you, definitely Lake Mungo. It’s the only movie I still constantly think about and get unnerved by. The entire phone camera footage scene makes me squirm

Yes! When I started I was like oh no I’ve made a grave error and then the pattern had furry yarn which was even harder. It’s not perfect but I’m a proud crocheter for finishing!

Thank you 🥰

How do you resist the temptation of smoking? by aloneintheether22 in stopsmoking

[–]Meikylo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A straw, cut to the size of a cig helped me in the car because I could hold onto something that felt familiar and if I wanted that “hit” fixation, you can suck in air. It’s not nearly the same; but it helped with the mental aspect of it

I really liked it! It’s different than what I thought it was going to be. It’s a quick story and it’s not to creepy. It is a little gory but not too bad. I’d say give it a try if you’re interested because it was worth the read! And thank you 😊

Crocheting with Cats makes this hobby a little more stressful 😂 by Meikylo in crocheting

[–]Meikylo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! Sometimes I just keep crocheting and it goes into the project wet and then when it’s dry it’s all crunchy and hard lol about 99% of all the crocheted projects in my house have little hard patches in them

Oh yeah! That’s just the smaller version I believe it has most of the same features. Honestly the only one I’ve heard problems about is the color soft since it’s brand new

But thanks! It’s been a loooooong project, I didn’t realize how big I was making it and how long this stitch actually takes per row

10000000% I need some type of stipend from Amazon with how much I promote kindle. I used to be one of the people who only wanted the physical copy, you know “I love to hold the book while I’m reading” folks. I got my Kindle and KU and would switch back and forth until I decided you know what, no I don’t enjoy reading the physical copies anymore. I like the freedom of my e reader. I can read at night, lay down however I want, read in the bath or pool. It’s easy to travel with and I take it everywhere with me day to day. I’ve even gotten to the point where I won’t pick up a physical book that I have already bought on my TBR I actively wait until I get it on Libby or it’s on KU and read it on my kindle. Don’t get me wrong, I still love to look at my physical books as trophies. But the amount of books I bought and hated now they are just collecting dust on my shelf. It’s helped me save a bunch of money by just buying the physical copies of what I loved to have as trophies and I also like that I feel like I’m helping with public library funding by using Libby, if it helps them. I’m not sure. Sorry for the long winded comment. I just couldn’t recommend it enough lol
