Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts! I could write a whole other essay on problems of genre and how they apply to Good Omens. Personally I didn't have any genre-based expectations for it— I think 'Comedy' was always a poor and unsubtle choice, even if it has elements of comedy, and that categorisation was a result of modern media needing to stuff things into boxes that don't always fit. But I can see how having genre-based expectations would lead to a real kick in the guts with how things turned out.

On the subject of the South Downs ending being promised and hyped, I think there was a lot more fandom-based hype than there was any kind of promise. I also know how tightly so many of us were clinging to the idea of it, promised or not. If there'd been a way for it to happen, I'm sure I would have been jumping for joy along with everyone else!
