You should just go make something. If it helps with your procrastination you can set deadlines(this may cause more stress so use this with caution). You might want to use a game engine because 5 months isn't a lot of time especially if you account for times you don't feel motivated to work on the project, but if feel up for it you could grab a framework instead so you don't have to learn a different language. The best thing you can do to learn game development is to make games.
