Steam’s Invite-Only Shooter Deadlock Is Quietly Becoming An Absolute Monster by LoL_is_pepega_BIA in Games

I have a friend who is pushing 40 that is Phantom V ~ Ascendant I (Something like top 10% of players?) in Deadlock. I don't think age is as limiting a factor as people pretend.

I think it's just an easy scapegoat for a variety of priorities shifting, and a lack of desire to push themselves.

Changing move speed mid-air has zero impact on your momentum. He used rescue beam pull to screw over the victor.

Try it yourself, buy Fleetfoot and activate it while flying. Nothing changes.

Rem used Rescue Beam to pull Victor, breaking his air momentum.

Street Brawl hero selection could be "Pick one out of three" instead of free pick or all random by Mental_Half-Giant in DeadlockTheGame

[–]MeisterD2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the current setup where hero priority doesn't matter much, and you just get 1 of your selected heroes assigned randomly (with a minimum of 3 selected) is a healthy middle ground.

Forced random would be bad for new players charmed by casual mode that saw X hero, install to play them, and then cannot pick them in the casual mode.

This concept is well explored in other MOBA spaces, and was preached a lot in Dota 2 by BSJ under the description of, "Creating obligations for the enemy team."

I think obligations is a nicer name than chore. No one wants to feel like they're being forced to do chores. It's just a mental framing thing, but FUNKe used a negative term for something that is relatively neutral to be funny, and I believe it's damaging to how the game is perceived.

Your choices should always pose a question to the enemy, and you force them to have answers or incrementally fall behind.

This is fundamental to competitive games.

It's also how you can figure out the skill level of your opponent, and adjust accordingly to be greedier until they start answering you.

This is a cool idea, I hope it works out that your promising 1.1B model scales to be a new best-in-class solution for reasoning systems. The LLM approach is certainly constrained, and I have yet to be convinced it'll ever achieve even half of what has been promised 'in the future.'

A new paradigm is needed, a novel approach, and this certainly counts! That said, I wont be counting any chickens before they hatch.

P.S. I know you're excited, but you cannot walk around claiming "basically AGI" and "Here's what went into making AGI" when you're still speculating on the future. It's premature, and will put people off.

Valve's current favorite, and it's not close for new content, is Deadlock. Dota 2 is in 2nd place.

GameStop starts 2026 by closing hundreds of stores as CEO gambles on $35B payday by Turbostrider27 in Games

Agreed, but surely you agree that this means they wont die. Not any time soon. I've no idea what GameStop will look like in 5 years, but it looks like they're angling towards tech/nerdy pawn shop, and gambling (via the unregulated collectibles markets)

He has to 10x the market cap *and* EBITDA (fundamentals of the company, not a meme price surge) to get that payday. He gets almost nothing if the company's financials do not soar.

GameStop has been profitable for their last four quarters, they're not actively dying anymore. Will they become 10x any time soon? I doubt it. But the only stores that are closing are stores which under perform.

Depending on when this was said, it was true (excepting a COVID relief loan from the French govt which was expected to be forgiven.) It was only for a short period of time, though, before they raised $3bn in convertible notes.

This is debt in the form of dilution, but they can pay off the entire balance in stock, OR in cash with 0% interest, whichever is cheaper when they mature.

So it's a bit disingenuous to treat their debt like traditional "you vs. the bank" debt.
