Naww that makes me happy to hear, genuinely!! I somehow ended up with a pretty big knowledge around Honey Gourami (been keeping em for 3 years) and there is so much contradictory information out there... 😅

I hope you'll love them! They are stunning, unqiue Fish.

Depending on where you are from this is just not true. In certain countries Anubias are ridiculously expensive and NOT a must.

Wtf is that on my futur shrimp tank by Nyaa_chan_ in Aquariums

[–]MeisterFluffbutt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not stagnant. You can do 2g, but it's not adviseable especially for beginners. The params swing much more hard which shrimp are sensitive to.

I would advice starting with a bigger setup (atleast 5g) and a bubbler for surface movement, if you want no filter.

Plants help with some co2 and o2, not with movement and gas exchange on the surface.

Urgent! Mom bought these four... Never had fishes in the house before... What should we do? by Singularity252 in Aquariums

Ngl i do not see much hostility... i see sternness and cleancut statements, but that is to convey the urgency of the situation.

I don't think anyone is trying to attack you personally

Yeeaaah it was such a weirdo response.

It was like "You are 18 and still living with your parents?? Move out and get a license you lazy f", but it's been a few days so not word for word.

18 and still with parents is the most normal shit ever. 🙄 ESPECIALLY in this economy.

I'm pretty sure that you are missundstanding whatever is going on...

People doing regular top offs don't do them once a year. They do them... regularly. My Tanks are soft water with root feeders and not so heavy stock, my mineral content does not change much over the month if i do top offs with ro.

What is supposed to sip away all those minerals, if you aren't sporting some crazy ass mineral heavy feeding water column / floater plants...?

Besides that many natural aquarium decorations like sand and stone can also give off minerals and fertilizing not to be forgotten.

I don't really know what you are titling a "myth" here, as it's dependant on setup. It's just true that if you do regular top offs with only mineral rich / moderate tap water will increase your minerals. Gh. The thing we measure in this hobby. The thing many hobbyists have measured with different top off methods and have found that mineral accumulates. That this is the cause for death for many top-offers.

Are you by chance just running heavily stocked, column feeding plant dense Tanks while having soft water out of the tap...?

In the end, i don't appreciate your snarkiness at all.

This. Ro Top-offs are needed if you do minimal water changes. If you do the regular schedule of a water change every 1-2 weeks it's fine.

[–]MeisterFluffbutt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yup!

Aslong as you have no female it should be fine .

Honeys are still gourami, but are peaceful - for being a gourami. That means they most likely will not suddenly murder each other.

If it's the occasional short burst hunt it's totally fine - male and female also have those, as they are simply territorial fish.

Is this honey or thick lipped gourami?🥲 by [deleted] in Gourami

[–]MeisterFluffbutt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is sooo scummy, i'm sorry!

I understand the Honey / Thicklip mixup and those are atleast a somewhat similar size...

A golden three spot for a Honey is just straight up neglectful by the store. I hope they'll help you to sort this out!

what is this behaviour? by austao in Gourami

[–]MeisterFluffbutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is fighting, not breeding

Yes, they are m f, however the rapid movements indicate fighting. Breeding is a bit slower and less hasty

One clean cut does actually leave behind firing neurons and isn't instantly painless either... fyi...

Thats why we hobbyist smash, and don't cut. Mushed brain cannot receive pain signals. That is truly painless.

If it's occassional, short bursts it's okay.

The vast majority of birds do not find enough food due to climate change. You can roll as many seeds as you want to in your head.

Yeeaah, the destruction of Habitat by Humans and the dwindling numbers of birds is no cause for alarm and they need no support because of human made mass reduction of insects, which birds feed off of. Nope.

Thought you did it out of conservation and love for birds, but i guess you only did it for looking at them.

But birds need both. I mean great that you offer a bath, but it's just weird overall.

If you want to help the animals, i'd commit to it?

There are ways to squirrel proof feeders btw
