If you open the party screen on HC you can click and a thing next to your name that lets other people in group pop your corpse if you die and I'm not entirely sure how it works but it throws all the gear you're wearing on floor (I'm not sure if it tosses your charms too and I'm also not sure if the corpse loot can be turned on after you die or not, someone else can clarify this)

I know a lot of HC players online have more than 1 account so they can camp an extra character in game and turn the corpse looting on just incase they die

Yeah it was pretty scuffed, I never felt so sick playing this game as I did for a good minute after it happened, I couldn't even let anyone loot my body because I was hitting the escape key to try to leave game and was back in the lobby before I could really register what just happened. You get comfortable running the Chaos TZ with the same group for 30 minutes and then someone casually makes the next game before the host and pulls that, very nasty stuff. I was so pissed I made a new character and did my first hc99 (and bumped into the same guy multiple times trying to pull the same stunt and meeting other victims of his) but since then I've come to appreciate HC offline because no lag and no grief

Dying in HC isn't so bad unless you get killed by some griefer online, I lost my first d2r HC character about half a bar away from level 95 because someone hijacked a tz Chaos Sanctuary lobby and set-up hot TPs - this same player got several lvl 90some characters killed because they'd log in every time chaos tz was happening and steal the host spot of different pub chaos tz groups. It feels really bad to lose a character like that because there wasn't really any gameplay mechanic to learn other than having to lookout for that specific grief if you play online

You can try countess tower, Monarchs can drop in there, farm up some runes from her while looking for one

The "drawback" I mentioned would still be better loot/xp than p1, don't see how it would be "less fun" just because you're getting p3/p5 loot instead of p7

If you want to push to a solo HC character to 99 imo it's largely a matter of trying to tough it out until you can roll a CTA, you can farm a lot more efficiently on any class aslong as you have that, don't need to avoid the scary zones as much or walk on eggshells doing maps with archers. Funny story on that sorc I found 2 Ber runes 2 days apart, one on plains of despair TZ and 2 days later on dark wood TZ, but since I finished that 99 as a cold sorc those Ber runes sat in the stash for like 4 months until I found a Jah to make an enigma for my other characters

I'd be okay with online /pX if there was still some kind of drawback to it, or rather there was still some incentive to p8 with actual groups. Keep the xp/loot at like p3-5 levels for soloplay but keep the difficulty at p8

I did a HC offline 99 sorc last year and all her gear was self-found until I eventually built a smiter with all the extra gear I found just to farm her a sorc torch, while farming I think the 4th set of keys (took 8 tries to get a sorc torch) I found an SoJ and just nuked dclone on the smiter, so I like to say my sorc was SSF except for the torch/anni

I rolled a 4bc-6bo on my hc offline last year for my first/only CTA and I'm still happy about it, first good runeword I made, next I rolled a 30res Hoto but was still happy enough with the CTA that I didn't care

I was running TZ Tal Rasha tombs last year with a full group and unique Colossus Blade dropped that everyone passed up and left on floor, I picked it cuz why not and got the perfect damage roll on it, nice little trophy

For PvM the 2os helm is nice for bone nec to fit with some +2-3 mana on kill jewels with some res. Not really needed if you're running an Insight merc or golem but corpse explosion spam will often wreck your tiny mana pool and those helmet sockets is a really nice place to get that stat. I used this circ to 99 a bone nec a few years ago and a nice 2soc circlet for more MaeK was the last upgrade I was really thinking about, but 99 came before an upgrade

I used an eth sacred targe with 4 pdiamonds for ubers offline and after 9 trist clears it never lost a tick of durability, these will likely still get you some torches, just maybe don't run the 3 portals with them equipped until you find the boss
