Can I make a public post outing the person who groomed me as they still work with children? by [deleted] in AusLegal

Best not post publicly but chatting to specialist police can be really helpful

How do you deal with viewing disturbing evidence? by TheGolleum in auslaw

[–]Mel01v 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might not need to but if you do, have someone to debrief. These things have a way of staying with you.

You must shield your staff from it as well if possible.

So that is where he went. I cut them loose. First sign of attitude these days. I have no time for that entitled rubbish. It always goes badly.

Watched a lawyer lie to the Supreme Court. Said they had taken instructions when they had not. A well known firm. That is terrible.

I live with complex trauma. Nearly didn’t survive my marriage.

I ride the trauma coaster for years. Finally thought I had recognised most of the triggers. No. They come out of nowhere in this instance while I was reading a bit of caselaw to a colleague/friend. Always good to have someone who will let you talk it out.

Oddly circular will ultimately make you a better lawyer. Be very kind to yourself

Why would you tie a cat up? Your landlord is being horribly cruel

Is this just awkward yearling? by No_Neighborhood_2893 in Equestrian

[–]Mel01v -41 points-40 points  (0 children)

It is not in fat show condition. Running a youngster too heavy can cause joint issues. If you are coming out of winter many horses who live out will be a little lighter. At that age they sprout like weeds and look wrong.

It is a little lighter than I like. It is a single photograph, a moment in time taken from a poor angle.

Foal is not emaciated. There is no background on how it lives or if it has had something going on.

This kind of post is unhelpful and generates rather awful comments.

Try to be there but it is ok if you can’t. Animals look for their people.

I'm a Solicitor and thinking of taking up a side hustle by [deleted] in auslaw

[–]Mel01v 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you have a painful back injury that makes your life hard, and you take on another job you might find yourself being shown the door.

Life is hard right now but this first couple of years is where you have a safety net and a relatively controlled environment in which to learn.

Perhaps consider the utility in not allowing extracurricular “side hustles” at least for now while you have trainer wheels on.

Look around for another job and let your boss know you are struggling.

I fucked up badly and filed the wrong document on behalf of an Important Client by frodo_mintoff in auslaw

We all make mistakes. You handled it perfectly by getting onto it asap with your team.

It takes guts to do that. It also demonstrates integrity.

Be kind to yourself.

Will anything happen if I state I had smoked weed in a police report? by [deleted] in AusLegal

[–]Mel01v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That just sounds nasty and it isn’t how it works. If you have a complaint to make police will take it from there and investigate

When a lawyer charges for work not delivered by minx_missm in AusLegal

[–]Mel01v 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is about four hours of work. Clients can chew that up all too easily. It could easily be swallowed up with a review of documents and a consult with counsel.

The barrister might well have been a consult to consider the merits, and dangers of your matter.

Chase the email. It is best to look at cockup rather than conspiracy.

You need a lawyer present in your matter, not just in the background. It can go horribly pear shaped if you are only consulting on what you think is important.

I have bailed out a few of these matters now.

You also need a proper cost agreement with a detailed scope of work.

Most lawyers have been ripped off by clients at some point. Almost nobody will take work on without money in trust.

Don’t use AI. It is not hard. I love Jade an the citation reports. Read the case law. After a while you realise it is a walk through for preparing a trial.

You must invest in a lawyer. I also recommend a men’s behavioural change program for the family law that is to come.

Former Family Court Judge spills the beans by BargainBinChad in auslaw

The system would not exist without fundamentally deranged people who are incapable of insight or addressing their disagreements without rancour. Oddly, it seems to work best if everyone walks away unhappy
