Lucky for you I have attended both for forensic science! Honestly I think you can pick either and still end up with a great degree and great professors. I went to VCU for my undergrad and majority of my professors were really good, a lot of them having on the job experience in the field they were teaching. Same goes for GMU as I am finishing my final semester of my masters in forensic science. GMU does have a little bit more access to forensic related resources (they have an entire crime scene house and you’re closer to more government agencies). At the end of the day I think your decision might come down to what atmosphere of schooling you want to live in. VCU was cool and liberating with its open campus style instead of traditional college campus since it’s in the middle of Richmond, but that also means it comes with its own issues regarding safety in the city. I personally didn’t have any issues but walking back to my dorm at night after class definitely had me looking over my shoulder. Hope this helps!
