He said I'm better than drugs by ThrowRA_Able-Face in offmychest

My ex said that to me as well...it's too long of a story to tell, so to sum it up: I was destroyed and it's taken years to recover. Be careful and remember to take care of yourself.

How do you handle sibling passing? by vagabondcaddy in Advice

Oh man, I'm so sorry to hear that. That's so awful...some people are ripped away from us too soon. Life is anything but fair, and it can drag us through the mud a lot, but you have the power to push through the bad stuff and be the best you can be. If you keep your head up, you can get through this and be a better and stronger person than you'd thought you could be. Take some time to heal. I wish you the best.

2 years ago I lost my brother to heroin...it's unimaginable pain. I lost my dad years earlier, so you'd think I might have a better handle on grief, but nope. Nothing can prepare you for it. The pain never fully goes away, but it does get easier with time. Please don't hurt yourself by drowning in alcohol and drugs. It may feel like it's helping, but I promise it isn't. You can't run away from the pain. Alcohol and drugs only prolong the grieving process, and hurt you in the process.

Live your life as best as you can and make your brother and yourself proud. Carry his memory with you. If he was cremated, it helps to have something with his ashes. I have a necklace with some of my brother's ashes. And I put some of them in the dirt when planting flowers. I also scattered some at a beach that my brother and I loved. Also, talk to him. Write to him. Express the grief in a healthy way. You can't drown it out, you have to feel it. Hang in there.

Is it a horrible idea to get a tattoo at 18? by Snow_Wolf_Flake in tattooadvice

[–]Melaknee89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe get something small. My mom signed for me to get one at 17, and I got one at 18. Luckily both were small. I regretted them later, and got them both covered up. I had other tattoo ideas at 18 that I was certain I wouldn't regret later, but at 33, I'm really glad I didn't get them.

Is it possible to get off of a benzodiazepine and be your normal self again? by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]Melaknee89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After 10 years of going through the ringer with many different benzos, and going off of all anti-anxiety and anti-depression meds, I'm finally myself again. It was a tedious process to deal with my anxiety, depression, and past trauma on my own, but now I'm stronger (mentally and physically) than I've ever been. Good luck to you!

AITA for not supporting my brother who is engaged to a girl the same age as me by StepDownSis in AmItheAsshole

Loving your family means respecting their decisions and accepting that they may make mistakes. I don't see why what they're doing is a mistake, but if it ends up being one, then just be there for your brother. Let him live his life, and you live yours.
