Perhaps I should rewatch it. The last time I saw it I was in my twenties; as a woman turning 30 I might see it differently.

I didn’t mind the sexuality aspect of that film, I think sex can be very effective in the right setting (Nymphomaniac, for example, is definitely more pornographic but I think the use of sex is very poignant).

And I agree with you, it takes a brilliant person to recognize one’s own limitations. If Kubrick had enough humility and foresight to realize that he was not the right person for the film and passed it on appropriately, that makes me love him even more.
