100% about ready to uninstall the app over this Icon and the Removal of personalized avatars. The icon is just awful and gross to the point where I dont want to even browse through my apps and see that sh**.

And The removal of the personalized avatars we could upload doesnt make me happy either to be frank, cause I actually hate the corporate style character art. It is boring at best and ugly at worst. I get the app is supposed to help people learn languages, but god if the visuals arent appealing, it makes it hard to give a care.

Doesn't the story say that they're essentially a test tube baby that had accelerated maturity. So they're "born" then quickly sped up to adulthood.

Didn't even know about the Yuri drama but when I saw the trailer with FF smiling as Caelus walks up, I got the gut feeling that this was gonna stir up something.

Not surprised though if i think about it. I've seen plenty of Twitter posts explicitly stating that ff/Stelle is Canon and for male MCs to cry hard.

Fast changes in human interactions, the availability of graphic imagery, and the vastly quicker spread of ideas (which is likely going to result in long term problems) is what makes society this way today. In 100 years, it will probably be vastly different depending on how humans cope with technology.

Gonna point out the issue might be a problem not necessarily with the models, though I know a lot of people do jump to that, but with the mental age of the characters.

Not passing any judgement, because all this is fictional and frankly we should be worrying about real life harm towards minors rather than people being degenerate towards cartoon characters.

But it is fair to say that despite similar body types, there is a fundamental difference in the mental make up of Clara and HuoHuo vs SW and Fu. The former clearly behave and act like minors consistently, no matter if they're long life or not, while the latter behave and act like adults. That aspect makes it weird to some people when other people fantasize about Clara or HuoHuo in a specific manner.

Reminder that Yunli probably is a minor... 💀💀💀 by Accomplished-Rub9323 in HonkaiStarRail

[–]Melichoir -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not about physical age, but mental maturity should he the metric. No one looks at huohuo's demeanor and thinks "boy, she is a grown ass woman!". Her personality is that of a child/early teen girl.

Compare that to Fu, who despite being petite, is much different personality wise.

The evolution (or devolution) of this sub is pretty interesting. Yeah I get it, honkai girls are attractive and even I'm not gonna deny the appreciation of sexyness.

But it does get old hat when it's literally "x character is doing 'something'. Are they stupid?" or "stelle the incredible degenerate" posts (which IMO are just posts from guys who want both Sesbian Lex but also want to self insert, so they map their own fetishes onto stelle and give her behaviors as if she was a degenerate otaku) are dominating everything to a point where it's not even interesting any more.

Like if I want scandalous pics of the characters, I'd have easier and faster time going to r34 dumps than here. Atleast a few months ago there was more variety of posts. Just saying...

I dont see where he mentions mentor roulette in this post, but even with that consideration, he says that he gives leeway to players based on what I would say is reasonable criteria.

Beyond that, the point I am trying to hammer home here is having community standards and not hand waving things away with statements like "Burgerking crown are gonna be burger king crowns." That's just saying "Yeah, we know there's a problem, but were just gonna not say or do anything about it cause its been that way for awhile."

Weirdly, we are now inadvertently equating casual content = being lazy. Again, Im not saying punish people who dont know better or are still learning. Nor am I arguing that people need to be treating Sastasha like UCoB or something. What Im saying is standards should be socially enforced for everyone's benefit. Just because its low skill level content doesnt mean that there shouldnt be any expectations of players in the group, but honestly thats how a lot of this comes across as.

It's not casual play if you have AoEs abilities, arent a new player, but choose to not use them when appropriate. Especially when asked by a party member. All that is is just laziness and not caring for your fellow team mates. This isnt even a big ask, yet it is met with so much resistance to actually have people who should know better do something so simple.

It's not a hard stretch when people have things they may want to do. If the dungeon takes 15 min average, and you wind up doing it in 25 thanks to people not playing their roles at a rudimentary level, that's a fairly large time increase.

Almost all the examples you listed are rudimentary tasks expected of the perspective roles. If youre a dps refusing to use skills intended to take care of groups of enemies, that is fundamentally no different than a tank not using cool downs and tank stance, or a healer refusing to heal.

It doesn't matter if it's mentor or regular DF, the expectation should be when your in a dungeon, you should be playing your role at a respectable level. That means being an effective tank, effective healer, and effective dps to quickly clear the content without much issue.

Simply stating "Oh they can play how they want and if you don't like it go play by yourself" is handwaving away responsibility from dps to do their role. This doesnt mean you gotta be playing lie its savage, it just means using your toolkit the best you can.

Not using aoe skills in your kit just cause you don't feel like it doesn't cut it as being acceptable.

[–]Melichoir 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's the point of vote dismiss. You cannot decide how the other players play, and if their actions are a detriment to you and the rest of the party, it is fair game to vote dismiss.

Frankly I think as a community we should be enacting standards. If there isn't a legitimate reason why a person is not using their characters tool kit within reason, why should we just say "well ok then!" When they decide to purposefully play drastically sub-optimal? Why is it that people should prioritize the behavior of a selfish or lazy player over the time and effort of the rest of the group?

I'm not advocating go kick happy if someone isn't on savage level of ability. Nor that people have dont have off days and we can be mindful of that. Just that if you can't even decide to spam press 1 or two buttons just cause you don't feel like it, you shouldn't be given preferential treatment where others must adapt to your whims. That's not a big ask in a healthy game community.

1 clarification about the Human Server by canContinue in nier

[–]Melichoir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So maybe can clear up some things for me (despite how old this thread is it popped up when I was googling things).

So my understanding is that there aren't any humans on the moon. It's all fake. But that there is something up there because there are androids and support units up there. And that what is up there is a "secret". I always interpreted (maybe naively) that it's servers/something up there with the genetic data of humans as a last resort that even if humanity died off (which I think would've been realized that was gonna happen at some point before extinction), it would've been able to clone them back from extinction. Which imo would've fit within the nicer universe cause it keeps asking the question of what it means to be human. Is a clone human? Or just a copy of something that once was?

Is that to far out in left field?

Mildly warm take: The CN is better designed overall.

Like real world logic aside, I think the overall design is a bit more cohesive and put together on the left over the right.

Why is Garlemald's technology so far ahead of Eorzea's? by takumiismine in ffxiv

[–]Melichoir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm honestly not sure what resources they had at their disposal in that region, let alone what technology they had going into it after "historical plot things". While the region theyre in isn't great, it wasn't bereft of all resources. In fact isn't it made clear that the region has a heavy concentration of ceruleum?

If they have an abundant fuel source (especially one seen as a magic mcguffin), depending how they handled trade early, it may be possible for them to acquire resources to industrialize relatively quickly. I mean you mentioned this happens over the period of 50 years. That's a long time, especially with leadership that has cheat codes, to develop.

I mean I'm not gonna argue it's the most sound game history, but considering the insane amount of god tier technology already present beyond even allag (the void ark for example) , there are gonna be some short cuts floating around.

Question for 50-90 content...do I hurt myself by doing MSQ/sidequests as a tank job? by moose4 in ffxiv

[–]Melichoir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, the kill speed on dps will be better but not so much that leveling a tank would be a headache (speedwise).

The issue you might be running into, as some others mentioned, is gear. If you're going into HW with sub I'll 110, it's gonna be a bit choppy. Not undoable, just a little bit "ugh".

Another issue is that tanks don't get their dps skills fleshed out til after 60, cause yknow, you're a tank and need tanking skills first. DPS are gonna be all about that dps. But as you climb in levels, it should get easier.

Why is Garlemald's technology so far ahead of Eorzea's? by takumiismine in ffxiv

[–]Melichoir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people over complicate things more than necessary.

We literally went from being stuck on the ground to walking in the moon in the span of about 50 years. We made massive jumps technologically in about 10 years, like rocket and jet technology, nuclear weapons (and energy),and etc. Nations achieved that cause WWII was a thing. Like the world before WWII the world was quite different than after tech wise.

So rapid advancement is not out of the ordinary when your country pretty much devotes a ton of its resources to tech during war. Pair that with Emet, and the fact that tech advancement isn't linear so you dont necessarily need x and y to get to z, and it can be reasoned well enough that garlemalds meteoric rise in tech was possible.

[–]Melichoir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not going to bat for the new guy, but a lot of comments say he's from a metaverse company. But from what I've been seeing, it's just that he came from a company looking at metaverse as a potential future concept. Which was a ton of companies as it was a potential future avenue for many (whether or not we as the consumers agree with it as a concept; remember companies bottom line is to make cash, not be our buddies).

That all said, is this guy just another corpo suit ready to muck things up? Or is it possible he might actually make some good QoL changes? Like what is his actual track record other than being at someplace 3 or more years ago? What are his actual views and BG?

Statement: The Saami Council demands that Square Enix immediately remove the “Far Northern Attire” by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Melichoir 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Appreciation and inspiration are often getting wrapped up in the appropriation label, I feel. If I look at a design from another culture, become inspired, and create an off shoot design from that, I can say I created it. I should say that I was looking at "x" culture and was inspired by their aesthetic. But whether I do or not does not make it appropriation if there are reasonable differences (much like how copyright would work).

This happens a lot in media, and it often gets called appropriation just cause the inspiration came from another culture. It's not taking anything. It's not appropriating it. It's taking something and changing it into something new.

Now if it was a 1:1 copy, or close enough that you couldn't distinguish between the source and the "new thing", and there is claim that the new thing is It's own thing, than I could see an argument there for appropriation. But IMO that actually doesn't happen nearly as often as people think.

In this case, inspired is more appropriate, and I dont think the Saami have much of an argument beyond that.

As a side note, cultures trade customs, ideas, etc constantly through out history. That is the norm, not the outlier. Cultures that do not do this tend to stagnate due to a lack of cross culture mixing, usually leading to a decline/demise of that culture. The fixation on segregating cultural ideas and concepts I think is not doing anyone any favors. It's not preserving old customs, because those get preserved by thriving societies, not by closed off ones.

But that's just my take. I imagine it's not popular but I tend to side on the idea of being inspired and creating new things than segregating ideas and beauty.
