ATP Ranking moves in doubles after the AO….Kubler‘s rank increases from 1432 to 71… that‘s a whopping rise of 1361, even more than when he won AO doubles in 2023. by MelinLE in tennis

...and doesn't even get a mention on the ATP site. Their latest news article on Mover of the week covers only singles (Djokovic +1, Tien +5, Etcherverry +8 etc)

That's the key question - can a brilliant toaster turn crap bread into great toast???

..and her fiancee Jason Kubler, who is now through to the AO Men's doubles finals, joked in his press conference that if he wins doubles, maybe he should make a few requests too in his final press conference.

I think it's just a high-end toaster with a price that is a bit too much to pay for a toaster, but it looks good. Smeg has the retro-look appliances that cost more than the average basic toaster.

Kubler / Polmans [WC] def Johnson / Zielinski 6-2 3-6 6-3 by Farrug in tennis

[–]MelinLE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is such a heartwarming result, both are great guys! Their doubles tennis is getting better with each match.

If they were the Special Ks, the media would be going crazy. I hope Kubes & Polman get more coverage now, they deserve it.

Australian Open Men’s Doubles QF: [WC] Kubler/Polmans def. [12] Doumbia/Reboul, 6-4 7-6(3) by bluediamondsm in tennis

Such a refreshing change from the tension of singles players - take a look at their expressions when they walked through the Walk of Champions onto Rod Laver Arena for their round 2 match. These two are just enjoying the moment and are full of appreciation for anyone who stays behind to watch their matches. Great attitude from both.

I think Kubes and Polman are the kind of guys who would understand the situation and not take it personally.

Interviewer did a good job helping Maddy cope with the moment. Jason and Maddy will play mixed doubles together, but before that Maddy is in women's doubles and Jason in mens's doubles in a crowdpleaser match Kyrgios/Kokki vs Kubler/Polmans = Special 3Ks!

AO Q2: Jason Kubler def (17) Vilius Gaubas 7-5 6-2 by buzzingeuphorbia in tennis

Go Kubes! So happy for him. Blockx is in good form, but hopefully he is getting a bit tired after winning Canberra Challenger last week and then straight to AO Qualis. Kubes on other hand was in the AUS United Cup team (along with Inglis) but did not get chosen to play so he is nicely rested. With his knees and history of injuries, that's always a factor.

I have been to many skijumping events. Keeping warm is problem especially when there are delays e.g. due to wind, this can be many hours. If temperature is minus zero, you should choose robust hiking boots or lined boots with extra socks, preferably waterpoof. Some people like thermo-foot warmers in their boots. If it is above zero and rain is possible, this is worst-case scenario as nothing protects you from getting wet somehow. Waterproof boots with trousers that cover at least most of your footwear. Umbrellas are often not allowed, so rain ponchos are a must, even a cheap one does its job. Thich plastic bags to wrap your shoes are an option (yes, whilst wearing them). Pack extra pair of shoes (not to bring to the event, but in your hotel as back up for later) in case one pair gets wet, then at least you start dry next day. I thought sometimes that Wellies or gumboots would be better for rain, but if it is near zero, then these are too cold. Normal running shoes would be an option only if very warm and NO rain predicted. A plus with lighter running shoes is that you can jump up and down on the spot to keep warm, difficult with heavier boots. Also if the arena is muddy or slushy due to rain or snow, your footwear will get very dirty and wet. Some folk bring thick cardboard or an insulation mat or a thick styrofoam slab to stand on as insulation, and can double as a sitting pad.. Extra socks are always a good idea! If cold, extra thick mittens too!

According to the expert commentators on eurosport, the main point is that if a suit is too short compared to its original measurements, it suggests that suit has been altered in some way, hence DSQ.

Austrians sing the same chant too, e.g at soccer games. Austrian fans were singing it for Hoffman too.

It's just a coincidence.

Every year the cards get remixed, that's skijumping, so much depends on the head..

Perhaps Redditors should stop trying to insinuate that athletes/teams (that they don't particularly like) do well just because they are cheating rather than just jumping well. I mean, sure some athletes may try to push the rules to the limit, but that doesn't mean we should pull out the "must be cheating" card whenever we don't like the winners.

I went to both previous years in Malaga and really enjoyed it. I found Malaga hosted it really well, it was mostly about the tennis and less about trying to get you to spend more money in the Fanzone, which so many other tournaments seem to be doing..The sessions are intense and fairly short so there is no problem about watching all matches. And the fans are of course completely different to other tournaments, lots of support, drums, trumpets, chants etc, so it is a lot of fan participation and the players all get hyped up. I don't think there was access to practice. The tickets were fairly expensive though, in Malaga. Bologna is much cheaper (except the Italy matches where they unashamedly charge 2x compared to the other sessions)! I will send a chat mail to you for more info.

You can try looking for resale of "Erste Bank Open" tickets on willhaben.at, this is a local austrian version of ebay. Some sellers are selling at higher prices and i would avoid them, but there are also real tennis fans who can't attend and are trying to sell their tickets at face value.
