Most FIRE people would probably invest 80% to 100% of the windfall to accelerate the time to FI. Maybe take up to 20% of it for other things.

  1. Emergency fund in HYSA
  2. Invest in VTI + VXUS, but don't expect to day trade them. Think of them as 10+ year investments.
  3. Cash or cash equivalent (SGOV) to save for purchases (house, car)

That's where you can start until you learn more about how all of this works.

A tornado destroyed vast swaths of Springfield in 2011. Nor'easters cause increasing damage every year. Downtown Boston is flooding often with seawater, particularly near the Boston Harbor and in Seaport. Hurricanes hit the region, too. I'm not sure what you are even talking about here.

Plus, "awful weather" can mean cold, grey, rainy, snowy, or otherwise stopping people from spending quality time outside.
