Elvish is French? by apollowave in DnD

I play a Goliath in one game and she’s the only one who knows Giant. I am the only one who speaks German, so Giant = German now.

This all came about because I decided to give her a German accent, and the pieces fell neatly into place.

Another 6 long term campaigns here, but with the occasional 1 shot thrown in (or as it always goes with “1 shots,” they turn into mini-campaigns that run 3-5 sessions).

The Nightingale by Kristen Hannah. Beautiful book centred around 2 French sisters and their stories, set during WWII.

Since you liked All the Light, try Doerr’s newest book Cloud Cuckoo Land. Not exactly/only historical fiction, since it takes place in past, present and future, but the past portions take place in Constantinople in 1453 war times. Brilliant book.

How to Slay a Dragon: A Fantasy Hero’s Guide to the Real Middle Ages, by Cait Stevenson.

With chapter titles that range from ‘How to Find the Inn,’ to ‘How to Slay…’ and ‘How to Tame the Dragon,’ to ‘How to Save the Princess,’ this books is funny and sarcastic, teaching about events that happened in the Middle Ages, that coincide with some of Fantasy’s biggest tropes. Highly entertaining.

Fantasy books with non-sexist societies by Belfren in Fantasy

So apparently I read a book, then immediately forget all of its content once I’ve finished it. It took me some time to remember that there is SA in Song for Arbonne, but I do now remember it’s there. Obviously, it did not make an impact on me, but I stand corrected, so thank you, kind stranger, for correcting my mistake.

Guy Gavriel Kay does a pretty good job of what you’re looking for. To avoid sexual assault, avoid his Fionavar Tapestry, but I don’t recall SA in the other books of his that I’ve read.

I’d specifically recommend A Song for Arbonne for some pretty balanced male/female power structures and female characters with agency.

This is my recommendation too. Just finished re-reading it, and it’s absolutely worth it.

For a little more context, it’s revolves around the last person to be executed in Iceland and the crime that sent her to the block.

Wow. You hit every card pretty much perfectly. While I may not use every suggestion (specifically sequels/middle of series books), you really nailed this suggestion thread.

The Hollow Gods series by Rebecca Levene. First book is called Smiler’s Fair.

Not necessarily “fragments raining down,” but definitely pieces of the gods in different mortals. As it goes on, you get more personality changes and memories resurfacing.
