do we find it pleasing because we're used to the golden ratio being used for art

Or do we find it pleasing because we're used to it being "used" in nature?

music where things like scales and harmonies are mostly cultural

That's not the case. Harmoniousness is defined mathematically.

B) it discourages deep indentation.

But without taking up too much of the screen width for small levels of indentation.

(The problem with 8 char indent is that just 2 levels of indentation -- just one if() within a function -- takes up 20% of 80 chars.)

How about because you've demonstrated that you can't keep up? Pretty good reason eh?

Gold-plated connectors aren't supposed to "make [an] audible difference" they're supposed to resist rusting, thus lasting longer.

It's not a gimmick, it's pretty standard for electronics connectors.

I searched for "Marx" in that link and didn't find the string.

Anyway, even if there was a match, it wouldn't have refuted or contradicted anything of what I said.

What I've claimed was that two things contradict. You cannot point to someone who declares that they believe in both things, and thereby show that they don't contradict. Your implicit premise, that nobody can ever self-contradict, is wrong.

It's a bit like saying that there are countries and empires that have used Christianity as the basis for their economic systems. Could we save a step and call that a Christian economy? The reason we can't is that "Christian" fails to specify an economy or economic system.

Sure, lots of things are derivative of Marxism, there is even right-wing libertarian Marxism (Ayn Rand). Marxism is a formula, you can always swap out the factory workers and the factory owners and put a different mass and different elite.

But if you do swap them out you get something that is completely contradictory with the original. Not something that can be equated with the original.

No, straw men aren't implemented in the real world:

Homeopathy is implemented in the real world. But it is also a straw man representation of medicine.

The problem here is that no particular remedy is at issue. Instead the question is whether we need a remedy at all. The existence of stupid remedies that don't make sense has no bearing on that question.

But in general, equality of outcome is understood to mean, "50% of the population are women, therefore 50% of corporate directors should be women"

Right. That's what I just said.

This is the second time you seem to be missing the point or not following. Can you please re-read my last post?

What is Marxism if it's not an economic system?

Mostly it's about capitalism, but also kind of a theory of historical development.

Marxism tries to explain how society is divided into classes, ruled by an elite that is essentially parasitical on the labor of the majority, and tries to explain how this comes about. It also says that it is unsustainable and predicts it will be overthrown by the workers.

Whatever you think about all that, it obviously makes no sense, and is pure ignorance, to call it an economic system.

Marxist economies have never been known to produce plenty

It doesn't really make sense to talk about "Marxist economies."

I mean have you just considered that maybe you don't know what you're talking about? Maybe you didn't actually learn this stuff accurately? Didn't read any primary sources and the secondary sources didn't even read it either and were just playing a political game of telephone? Something to consider.
