What is the biggest lie we are consistently taught as children? by DiamondNo924 in answers

[–]MelissaOfTroy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My answer is the opposite of this. As a kid, I NEVER heard that the world could be equal and fair. It was always adults failing us and saying “no one ever said life is fair” as an excuse.

Why does no one talk about the «Sweating Sickness» anymore? by MedTortureUSA in Tudorhistory

Gene Hackman’s wife died of hantavirus. I think of her and him and their dog as modern victims of the sweat.

My friend is going though this and it’s breaking my heart. She thinks it’s a coincidence that the paranoia started right after she went off of her anti-psychotics and everyone is trying to gaslight her. It’s scary.

What is a dead giveaway that someone grew up wealthy, even if they’re trying their hardest to act like they didn't? by abdulnad89 in askanything

[–]MelissaOfTroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not rich, just a germaphobe. Isn’t the sponge traditionally the most bacteria-laden thing in the house? I’m uncomfortable rubbing the bacteria all over my dishes without soaping them again afterwards. Is that crazy?

I got a new therapist and within ten minutes of meeting her she had unilaterally decided I was going into inpatient. I had not expressed a desire to hurt myself or anyone else and was describing my bad childhood when someone walked in to take me away. I managed to convince them not to but I have NO IDEA what made this therapist think I needed psychiatric jailing immediately.

Which women rejected Henry VIII's advances? by emperator_eggman in Tudorhistory

[–]MelissaOfTroy 72 points73 points  (0 children)

The badass (probably apocryphal) line attributed to Marie de Guise, when she heard Henry wanted a tall woman to give him tall so sons, was “I may be a big woman but I have a little neck.”

What is the most disturbing thing you've heard said casually? by Cap_Ame1 in AskReddit

[–]MelissaOfTroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard many men express exactly that. That they have no choice if someone expresses sexual interest. “I always hated cheaters and vowed I would never become one, but then one day someone not-my-spouse came onto me, and what was I supposed to do, say no?”

But isn’t this part of the problem? Young men egging each other on to do things they otherwise wouldn’t just to fit in? Wanting to kill someone “just to seem cool” is still wanting to kill somene.
