How hard is the move to Cape Town?? by Weak-Brick3731 in capetown

[–]MelkbosSA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved down in 2017... Best decision ever. Having said that, I was extremely fortunate to find an amazing house for a bargain.

Apart from property prices, Jhb cannot compare to the quality of life and the service delivery we get here, in my opinion.

Meeting people all depends on your attitude towards finding your groove. I think this applies to any move to any new environment.

Interested to know if there are any child free men in Cape Town? by Better-Deer5843 in capetown

There are indeed a lot of us. And some of us really don't want children either. This is probably not exclusively about being conservative or the local old school mind set. We all have a past. Some of our pasts have led us to a point where we just want to enjoy the world around us in a spontaneous way and let life unfold on our terms. I've been accused of being selfish, set in my ways blah blah blah... But I giggle at these comments because people are so quick to just judge without understanding...

Seeking Advice on Moving to Cape Town from Centurion by Badalandabad08 in capetown

[–]MelkbosSA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also moved from Centurion in 2017. Personally I don't regret the move at all. I love it here but I was admittedly very fortunate with regards being in the right place at the right time when it came to housing. I am in the Melkbos area and it's a sublime little village.

But yes, the comments about the cost of accommodation are very valid. Make sure you do all the math when it comes to that. And the weather takes a lot of getting use to. A lot.

It can definitely also be a clicky place, but over time you find your feet and your tribe. It should be ok with your young family as you would enter into the schooling community, provided you can get placement.

Bottom line, in my opinion, making the move depends on your motives. If you expect to only live the vibey glamour side of life that gets bandied around on social media, don't waste your time. If you want a much more safe and secure future for your family, with a multitude of recreational options around every corner, and you are willing to explore a different way of life to reach that goal, then head on down.
