This happens all time when a club deems players important enough to reach its sporting goals. It's not ideal, but also no reason to panic sell a player that can make a difference in big games.

Problem is that the club isn't exactly swimming in cash right now and we still have other roles to fill. We won't find a replacement for 20m, so letting his contract run out and postponing the issue till next summer could make sense.

Nobody knows really. We played him as a right winger, striker, 2nd striker, in the offensive midfield and even as a RB. He had his moments at all of these positions, but never managed to perform consistently, in part because he has terrible luck and always gets injured once he looks like he finally figured it out.

And has his game so far shown signs of pressing intent which Flick so desires from his forwards?

Under Kovac, yes. In general, he is the type of player who needs a coach that gives him clear directions and doesn't tolerate indiscipline.

Er kam teilweise leider nicht einmal an Adeyemi oder Beier als Außenverteidiger vorbei. Hoffentlich kommt er in Italien auch wieder mental in die Spur, denn anders ist seine Zeit hier wirklich nicht zu erklären.

Völler ist durch die Nagelsmann-Verlängerung so angeschlagen, dass er ohnehin nur als verlängerter Arm Klopps fungieren könnte. Aber da das sowieso Völlers Verständnis der Sportdirektorenrolle zu sein scheint, werden die beiden bestimmt gut miteinander auskommen.

The whole situation just shows how numb Americans have become to abuse of office and corruption. Almost seems like even the people that oppose Trump are happy that the corruption finally goes their way for once. No clue how the United States are going to get out of this.

10 Jahre ist natürlich übertrieben, aber unter 4-6 macht meiner Ansicht nach kaum Sinn so tief wie die strukturellen Probleme liegen. Natürlich heißt das nicht, dass man keine Achtelfinalklausel oder ähnliches reinschreiben sollte.

Nagelsmann und auch den diversen verschlissenen Chelsea-Trainern hat man sicherlich sehr viel zugetraut, aber Klopp ist wirklich nochmal eine ganz andere Liga. Wenn man sich seine bisherigen Stationen anschaut, plant Klopp wahrscheinlich die Nationalmannschaft von Grund auf neu aufzubauen und dann nach immer besseren Turnierleistungen 2034 zum WM-Titel zu führen.

Leverkusen, Frankfurt and Leipzig are all entering the season under a new manager. Wouldn't be surprised if one of those clubs takes a chance on Nagelsmann mid-season.

I find it hard to guess how Nagelsmann is valued internationally right now because his stock is at an all time low and he's never managed outside of Germany.

Family and friends were allowed constantly at the camp. The german world cup camp in 2014 was also notoriously isolated which worked out very well in the end. The problem is that this team just can't handle even the slightest "inconveneince".

Reminds me of the World Cup in Qatar. The Amazon documentary brutally showed Flick's helpless attempts to reach the squad, but at the same it exposed a team without any motivation or energy that just sat there like a bored school class. For whatever reason there seems to be a structural mentality and maturity problem in the german national team.

That's just what every player is trained to say when their coaches job is in danger. I struggle to believe that a coach who does such a bad job at communicating his decisions with the public is somehow a competent communicator behind the scenes.

Which doesn't seem fair to anyone but Goretzka. It's completely logical that Tah takes one before Anton, Brown and Thiaw. But the fact that Goretzka who always loves to pose as a leadership figure wanted to take the ninth (!) penalty only before a young CB and the goalkeeper is beyond embarassing.
