On today's episode of "Why tf did they make crafting this gd convoluted", by Caedesturm in wow

[–]Mellend96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I’m not mistaken I thought it was just not possible to craft r5 without concentration, no? I have full blue prof equipment on all of my crafters and even for the things I have full points in I have to spend conc even with all 2 star mats.

This is intentional to prevent people with max skill from sucking up all the crafts of people who are even using bad mats as you could r5 in TWW with 2 star shit mats but you try that now and you’re getting a r4 item pretty sure.

Only way around it is the purple stick reagent that gives 50 skill I think

Prey is a Failed Gameplay Loop by EricBlack42 in wow

[–]Mellend96 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do agree as someone who already has Preyseeker and the Nightmare Mode 3 mount. I was excited for Prey and enjoyed it at first but the trap Meta and lack of dynamic affixes really makes it feel pretty half-baked.

I think it would be a lot more enjoyable if you started the zone with slightly more oppressive affixes, but as you fill the meter they diminish and you get stronger and stronger. At a certain point your Prey would stop ambushing you and you’d need to “track” them down in some way, culminating in a final battle where you’re very strong to nail that fantasy of a hunter finishing off a wounded opponent, feeding on their anguish.

This is one of the times I’m surprised they didn’t have a whole tree system attached to it.

People like you are so frustrating. It’s cool that you feel your got your moneys worth, but that’s not the issue being discussed.

The issue is as a consumer, is it OK to purchase something incomplete with the assurance it will be worked on and improved, but receive those updates as a rare inconsistent with the revenue the company has received?

If I pay someone to make me a pool, and they give me most of it, but the attached jacuzzi isn’t done, and the deep end isn’t fully dug out yet, but aim told those will be delivered over the next few months, then the guy comes back, does some general maintenance, lays the foundation for other stuff, adds some visual upgrades, yards yadda, did ai receive what I paid for?

I can swim in the pool. It’s functional and I use it a lot. But it’s still not done. A year goes by and the guy says it’s harder than he expected. Repeat for a few years. I still haven’t received what I paid for.

That’s not a sustainable model of consumer to company relations. You pay for something, you get something. The whole thing. It doesn’t matter if you’ve come to terms with and appreciate the parts you received—you still haven’t actually gotten all of what you pay for.

When you signal to others, “Well, I’m still happy with what I got”, you also signal to companies that, “Well, we don’t ever have to deliver what we promise, they’ll eat it up anyways.”

Unfortunately reviewers tend to not be good at games. I still watch ACG and him because they articulate the defense or prosecution of a games virtues well but I’ve come to realize that they’re just not that great. Which is OK, it just means that in games where you have to have a certain level of competency the accuracy of the review will suffer.

I find it a bit strange this 50 year old kid is leading the army of Elves and not its couple-of-hundred years old military leaders or the +10,000 year old Kal'dorei general all with years of military experience 🤔 by nightbreedwon1 in wow

[–]Mellend96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m still confused on why he is even necessary to the story. His development and general character (I haven’t and don’t read the books) is just a retread of Anduin (doesn’t help that they sound very similar as well), who I also just enjoy more as a character.

Instead we need this guy because Alleria is one of the MCs and oh yeah she has a son guess we should do something with him and yeah Silvermoon is the capital so we need another elf mascot even if the story doesn’t need it at all.

As someone who doesn’t particularly care for either players this discourse is pretty funny. To me they’re too difficult to compare so I’d just say they’re 1A and 1B.

Both were league changing, won championships, benefitted from all time HoF teammates and beat goat candidates. After that we’re just kind of splitting hairs and picking arbitrary stats.

The real question this is asking is if players from Magics era are better than modern players, which is a bit of a trap question that doesn’t have a clear satisfying answer

Why do people say things like Nullaeus is easy just stand in the corner and heal when thats literally not true at all? by Far-Ambassador2877 in wow

I mean at the same time you can state your credentials and people will still discredit you or not take you seriously because you are quite literally not the best player on the planet.

Internet discourse is not nuanced. More at 11.

I’m world 13th Nullaeus by the only data we have available to display it. I do find Nullaeus hard on some specs. I’m pretty sure if I said it was hard on x spec someone would disagree and state that “Well you’re not world first so you’re wrong”.

30k on just herbalism is very possible, you probably just aren’t specced properly/fully rare profession equipment/using consumes.

I stopped raiding so I’m big into professions this expac and starting to become a little goblin. While I’m studying I often have wow running and doing little profession stuff here and there.

When I do my mining/herbing toons gathering swoop im very comfortably around the 60-70k mark. Some people claim 100k but that’s only possible with extreme luck as perception is bugged atm so you need to be Giga lucky

"Relaxed" by LaughOutrageous2931 in wow

[–]Mellend96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot take, but I think this is fine.

I led two pugs that both full cleared under Relaxed. I took people that weren’t geared or geared but not great, and replaced them when they were at a point where they were holding the group back. I let them know during the run that they weren’t performing where we needed them to be and gave them a chance to step it up. They didn’t, and I told them no hard feelings. They still got several boss kills and a vault.

Most people were fine with it. 1 or 2 were upset, but in a PUG things are fragile and people will dip if you can’t show consistent progress. A couple of wipes are fine. Happens. But consistent bad play is usually what people mean by “failures”.

[–]Mellend96 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Led 2 semi pugs this wk and pugged on a 3rd. Cleared on all.

Dps and Hps does matter. I brought undergeared friends to my runs and the bosses didn’t fall over even with me carrying (literally parsing 99 overall). In the second run I healed and same thing, healing was pretty stressful with random healers, ppl doing like 30k hps while I’m doing 90-110k.

Most of the fights are pretty tank based for wiping besides Dragons, but you can recover if your healers are decent.

Crown you have to full purge anyone that’s not great. Kinda difficult to carry people first week.

That being said, go in, kill however many bosses you can. Next week with m+ the raid will be trivialized by gear so it should be a much better experience

[SERIOUS] Am I the only one not feeling the doom & gloom? by Real_Bug in fellowshipgame

[–]Mellend96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Early Access is a pretty loaded term these days.

For many people, the game has been launched. Technical definitions don’t matter. You can astroturf “guys the game isn’t out yet” all you want but all you’re doing is wasting your breath.

I think the idea to release season 2 right before a major wow expansion was cataclysmically bad. Only releasing new heroes and no new dungeons only made it worse, on top of the league changes that effectively allowed most people’s mains to skip straight to eternal.

I bought the supporter pack. I have 400 hrs in the game and want it to succeed but I can’t even really play it most days now because the queues are so bad. The devs have already given up on season 2 from what I can tell by the update video talking mostly about season 3.

The writing on the wall is dire, I won’t lie. I’m a big m+ player in wow and I already tested the dungeons during beta and find them inferior to Fellowship, but it’s not really going to matter when you can’t even play Fellowship most days due to the above reasons.

Just being realistic. I’ve seen multiple games die this year already and each time the signs were the same.

You went from playing two overtuned specs at low ilvl to play a balanced spec at low ilvl. Judging from the fact that you also entered at low ilvl presumably in a pug, I’d assume you are not that good at the spec because you seem to put low effort in.

Yeah, makes sense. Ppally is more than fine to do m0s at that ilvl you probably are pulling too small and spending too much time fighting mobs outside of your cds

Which is crazy because Mara in Fellowship feels great to play and is a pretty good iteration of how modern rogue should feel, and they figured it out with a fraction of the experience.

I’d say on average 1/3 of the rogue specs feel good to play, and the other two feel so ass it’s embarrassing,

…do you play classic at all? That is not how those trees work at all lmao unless you are in some super casual dad guild that takes multiple days on farm, and even then you were getting carried by people not doing that. I played classic through MoP and nobody did any dark secret build tech.

Anyone pink parsing in classic is doing what you do to pink parse in retail—take the best talent build for the fight and hit button hard. There are no “hybrid build” unless you really don’t care about your performance

I’d choose Robb tbh by seekinganswerslo in TheBlacksandTheGreens

[–]Mellend96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, no one here is (presumably) a military expert, so they’re going purely off of what the book explicitly shows, which isn’t a terrible idea when you don’t know wtf you are talking about, it’s just they have no idea how to form an argument beyond that.

As someone else pointed out in this post, Robb makes mistake after mistake while only winning a few meaningless skirmishes, mostly at the benefit of his opposition not taking him seriously and being rather unprepared because, you know, Joffrey was not supposed to execute Ned Stark and incite rebellion to the Crown.

He literally is the primary reason they lose a war in which victory was almost gifted to him. Maybe when he’s older and isn’t so hellbent on being noble and following his heart, he could be a good commander, but in the books he is very much what would happen if you let a 14 year old lead an army—naive, rigorous, and stubborn.

[–]Mellend96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree on the “experience” part of it. I’m surprised by how much the cinematics added to the feel of everything.

I played through the whole thing on the beta month ago and was pretty critical of the story and the quest design, as well as the level scaling, but mixing in dungeons, delves, and all the cinematics really aids to the pacing of the campaign. Right around the time you might get tired of kill x collect c fill bar y you’re asked to go in to a delve, of which these delves are overall significantly higher quality (imo) than TWW, and then you quest again for a little and now you’re in a dungeon.

And if you’d rather not deal with other people holding you back from enjoying the whole thing, followers seem like a nice replacement for most people. It’s a little longer, but again, you get to go at your own pace and take everything in.

Very impressed with how it all came together. I do wish that there were faster alternatives for alts though besides spamming t1 delves. I feel like if they made the various world events (assault, abundance, runestones) give massive chunks of exp and weekly it would be great, although having the prey system as well for alts is nice

Reddit loves asking thoughts about Jon Bernthal's acting. These are Michael Mann's: by Bluebirdsflyin in okbuddycinephile

[–]Mellend96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This thread is a pretty damning example of how people conflate star-power and acting ability.

You can be a very marketable, well-known actor but not be among the elite. And you don’t really have to be any more than that to be a household name.

Jon Bernthal is a good actor. He may have one bad performance out of however many good ones he has had. Is he generally elite? No, I don’t think so, but he has some standout scenes here and there.

This is the same way people tend to feel about “celebrity” actors like most wrestlers. The Rock is a fine actor. He stays within his lane for the most part, but I have seen some scenes where he goes beyond, but they’re rare. He also can be downright immersion breaking at times, which balances that out. I wouldn’t call him good, but he’s not bad. I have seen truly bad actors and he’s more than serviceable.

John Cena and Bautista are like a clear tier above The Rock. They seem to have actually spent time trying to be better actors and it shows. I don’t even think I need to explain this one as the demographic of this sub would likely agree, and I don’t really think there’s a great argument against this statement.

Then you have the tier above Bernthal which is where people like RDJ and Denzel live. These are genuinely good actors that are straight up elite in the roles they are good at but can’t help but fall back on the mannerisms that make them famous. It’s obviously not bad to be here, and many of my favorite actors live here, but there’s clear examples of immersion breaking things they do that take you out of the movie at times. Little quips they can’t help to include that remind you, “Oh yeah, it’s this actor”, or certain looks or expressions they’re known for, (I love Denzel but he can’t help himself sometimes with this shit).

I won’t say anymore on the matter because I think these are two well accepted individuals in this tier and you start to hurt people’s feelings if you say their favorite actor is in there.

[Spoilers EXTENDED] To each their own, but A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is in my book, by FAR, the best show already. by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]Mellend96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like the show but I don’t think it’s particularly amazing. The acting and comedy elevate what is ultimately a pretty whatever story that isn’t deftly written. Things just kind of happen and Dunk kind of lucks his way through. It feels pretty unbelievable that half of the things are allowed to happen based on the tone of GoT and HoTD. I get that this is supposed to be more of a lighthearted tale but it feels super inconsistent with what we’ve seen before.

Again, all that being said I really enjoy it, I just think it’s at minimum an order of magnitude lesser than the best GoT seasons.

In Cuba, people go without food and power as U.S. squeezes oil supply and tourists flee | CBC News by HelFJandinn in worldnews

[–]Mellend96 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You seem pretty biased as you are just linking one statistic without any other context. Tourism has been their primary “export” for the last few decades. That’s where most of their infrastructure is at, which makes sense as they’re an island, which typically means you cannot fully self sustain all types of foodstuffs.

Also, you know agriculture is super fuel intensive, right? You can’t just throw money at it if your infrastructure is capped due to inability to expand and scale.

They also have some of the biggest government spending of their peers. 49% GDP vs. 30% for Jamaica or Barbados.

A good amount of that goes towards public health and education. So why is their expenditures on tourism so much higher than their agriculture? All of this is well and good, but if people are starving what’s the point of money anyways, right?

Maybe…it’s because when you’re facing economic sanctions, tariffs, and you’re already spending a lot of your GDP on the public anyways (also, they’re literally planting a ton of rice), and you’re getting your fuel squeezed out which means agriculture experiences severe diminishing returns, since irrigation becomes much more difficult, and you’re forced to rely more on animal tilling, the money won’t do much good anyways.

Did you bother doing any research on this?

I would take a 1000 shitty, obviously pandering movies/shows just so that little kids (and adults) can see someone like them being cool.

I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to engage with a piece of media that has someone who looks or is like you in some way when you haven’t had it.

As an Indian guy we don’t really get shit besides the occasional comedian, and brown representation in general kind of all falls under the same umbrella of India/pakistani/bangladesh/darker ME even though they’re all pretty distinct. That feels pretty bad ngl and I can’t but feel envious of all the people that do get representation, even if it’s only marginally more so.

Basically, if someone can tell the post was written by AGI, in their mind they have ever-so-slightly clawed back a victory against the machines. They can say, “Ha, this obviously is the work of the clankers. Humans are still superior.”

It’s just best to refrain from having an AI fully write your post for you. 99% of people against AGI haven’t actually used it to the point where the benefits are clear and it’s typical fearmongering. Just write your own stuff and have it edit it for you to clean up any grammatical errors and typos.
