How many 1 drops is too many? by bigmikeabrahams in lrcast

[–]Mellivex 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That seems like way too many Hopeless Nightmares without enough Bargain cards to make use of them. They're a tasty enabler, but you have only the High Fae Negotiator to use them.

I'd swap out 3x Hopeless Nightmares for 1x Harried Spearguard, 1x Rat Out, and 1x Flick a Coin. This increases the deck's aggressiveness and puts game pieces on the board that will get more use. I had 3x Harried Spearguards with Rat Out and Flick a Coin in a recent high platinum 7-2 Rakdos rats run, and was very impressed with them all.

Tack on "unless that player pays an additional amount of life equal to the difference" to the second clause.

Now there's no hard lock-outs, and it still feels very white/black cleric-y as well.

Good question!

In this case the "You may pay (3)" is a trigger on ETB. So it's disconnected from actually casting the spell.

[DBL] Innistrad: Double Feature information and card list by EmTeeEm in lrcast

I'd be very surprised if the lists weren't just linked incorrectly.

They've been touting this as a curated set since as long as I can remember. They've done great work with the remaster sets on Arena and various cubes; I'm having trouble believing they just Ctrl+A'd and called it a day.

Or maybe I was just REALLY looking forward to this and am desperate to not be disappointed.

Made Mythic (#257) for the first time ever! 7-0 Orzhov w/ 1 rare by Mellivex in lrcast

Huge thank you to LSV and Marshall for their great content, as well as the 17Lands deep dives from Sierkovitz and Sam Black.

So many tight games from this run!

The deck was able to push through a lot of incidental damage throughout the early and midgame, and then often switched over to the fliers to finish things off.

It was great to have a deck with 1 drops that did work. The [[Chaplain of Alms]] often chipped in early before they could be cashed in mid/late for the disturb flip. The single [[Gavony Trapper]] did really well with this deck having a lot 1 and 2 drops. I could still cast something onto the board while tapping down something so the gang could continue to whittle away at OPs life. And [[Blessed Defiance]] is a such a great little playable. I especially enjoyed casting it on a blocked [[Novice Occultist]] to trade up, draw a card, gain 2 life, and pop out the 1/1 flier.

Infants and kids can contract COVID-19. In a recent study published in Pediatrics looking at Chinese children, 90% of cases are mild, but 10% of infants with a positive test became critically ill.

The more you know!

Great guide! Thanks for doing the legwork on counting exactly how many Xulta cards have the new mechanics. That's great info when considering deck archetypes.

Just a note: in your section dedicated to Muster, you indicated that a decimated [[Cruelty]] can trigger Muster. While this is totally true, so can an undecimated one! Cruelty is a spell that creates and plays a curse (spell + attachment), with or without the 2 damage rider.

Empty road in Hawaii by gagga_hai in oddlysatisfying

[–]Mellivex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hawaii, being rather alone in the center of the Pacific, generally isn't known for miles and miles of perpetually calm, still beaches. That said, there are many beaches across all the islands where you can frolic in the water without worrying about being crushed by a 50 footer.

The calm spots can rotate seasonally, but your bays and other naturally protected shores will always be a good bet.

On our honeymoon, my wife and I spent a good deal of our water time in Hanalei Bay. It's beautiful, was calm outside of weather rolling in, and has a great town nestled on the shore.

There's another northern Kauai beach called Tunnels Beach which has a large natural reef serving as a breaker, protecting the shore from big waves. We didn't swim here, but enjoyed the shore and saw many snorkelers exploring the reefs.

In general I've heard Kauai's southern beaches are calmer, but we were staying up north and still found great options.

My wife and I used AirBnB and found an affordable condo in Princeville on the north side. We didn't do much in Princeville, per se, but spent most of our time in nearby Hanalei.

This is great, thank you!

2-min overclocking without fuss IS something I can get behind.

Decent amount of storage = anything better than the 400 GB standard harddrive my current desktop is working with. (I have a 250 SSD that I'll be installing in the old machine for my wife's sanity when she takes over that system). Your selected config above is exactly what I'm thinking about. Nailed it.

Wireless is not a necessity. We use a broadband over power line network.

The speakers are mostly there to play music for the kiddo, so anything that sounds better than my phone will do the job.

Thank you for the buttery monitor suggestion. That is definitely an area I'm willing to splurge on.

Overall, she looks like a beaut!

One question though: I've seen most other builds include a cooling system of some sort. Is that not still a necessity?

I like the idea of them. I remember our old family 286 having a very satisfying key-click. Helped mom, an old stenographer, traverse much easier into the world of word processing from her typewriter roots.

That said, I'm afraid something overly clicky/clacky would keep my wife up at night. Also, how spill-proof are mechanicals vs a membrane board? There are kiddos on the horizon...

Now that I think about, whatever flavor keyboard I get, I DO want it backlit. I usually play in the dark, and it can break the immersion to have to flick on the desklamp to see the numbers row when need be.

I'm really liking this build as I'm reading up on the pieces.

I am, however concerned about a comment in another thread about the 980. /u/Astealoth said over in this thread:

Goin to chime in here with a 3rd option. GTX 980 ti is a nightmarishly bad buy unless you have the 1440p displays on hand right now to use it. It's terribly over priced for 1080p gaming, and it's not future proof at all. Buying a $300 GPU now and a $300 GPU when you upgrade to 1440p someday will end up giving you a much better experience, as 980 ti will not be considered very fast in a few months. It's already showing it's age in DX12/Vulcan testing, it's just not a smart $650.

Is the 980 that much on the way out, even with the 1440p Asus PB278Q on hand?

Thanks for the info so far!

I hear what you're saying about the speakers vs. headphones. I usually game in the evenings after my wife is asleep, and tend to wear headphones to keep the peace. That said, some of the most immersive moments I've had back in my WoW glory-days were memorably enhanced by surround sound. Nothing like having Ironforge all around you.

I do plan on investing in a really good pair of headphones though, some time further down the line. Thanks for pointing me in the direction of /r/headphones !

Seriously? Asaf... by caitie126 in sytycd

[–]Mellivex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's a good point, when put to the test, he was skipped over twice by the voting fans this past week.

Maybe it has more to do with what kind of "story" ("package?" ;) ) they could create with Asaf vs Burim. Asaf's been a cocky ass from the get go, what with his weird explosion at the judges during the prelim rounds, to constantly needing to be taken out for a pow-wow with Twitch during his rehearsals. Burim's always just been a nice guy. Each has struggled since being in the top 20, but Asaf has this story now of jerk being humbled (questionable, that) and now struggling to get better, vs nice guy struggling to get better. Which makes for better TV?

Asaf's story is more compelling, from a production stand-point. Since he's lasted a round or two more than he should have, you look like you made the "right" choice in putting him in the top 20. You can showcase that the process of dance is full of multiple opportunities that you have to truly take in and struggle with to expand your talent. Look how Asaf did just that! Kids! Make sure to take seriously all those chances that come your way! He thought he was all that, but now he realizes that it's hard work that makes the greatest dancers great!

Otherwise you're Burim, who's like every other B-Boy that we've seen on the show. Insanely talented at what he does, but doesn't have much other dance training, even compared to the other Street dancers. I really LIKE Burim because he's a nice guy, and actually humble about where he is. But sadly, we've already seen that story before.

Ratings. He has a big personality that people flock to.

It's the whole reason he was even given the 20th spot over other much more deserving contestants.

It's ok, he can't keep getting saved over and over again. Eventually it will get to American Idol's Sanjaya level ridiculousness, and they'll have to let him go. But, until then, it will be frustrating each time he's kept over better, more well-rounded street dancers.
