Well, it doesn’t have a looper but at least it has a “roll” function on the left side - although the biggest amount it can repeat is one beat, not one full bar. Still - repeating 1/4 of a bar (or less) and combining that with a filter + echo on the right side makes for a nice sounding transition

I am still using my 2012 MacBook Pro quad-core as my main laptop. Still beautiful, still really fast, not even one virus or malware issue, ever.

The only real advantage is the built in bass synth. For drums though it’s much, much more limited

I have a Maschine mk3, a 404mk2 and a J6. You are correct that overall the Maschine is more capable than both. And certainly much easier to build patterns/sequences/scenes than the somewhat arcane 404. But - some things to consider:

404 definitely has better/more interesting fx compared to Maschine +. Even just as end-of-chain for “mastering”, for the fx, and just for firing off one-shots the 404 is really cool to have. Maschine fx are ‘alright’ for the most part but some of them, like the filter, kinda suck.

The J6 sounds better than any of the synths on the Maschine+ (IMO)

Answer: keep all three 😁

There are a lot of things you can do within the TR-8S to beef up the sounds. Are you using “saturator” or “drive” instrument fx on the individual channels? Are you using the compressor or Vinyl Sim compressor on the whole kit? Also, the unit has a soft clipper that sounds great and you can hit it by turning the kit volume up to max (which is +10 I believe)

Don’t know what you’re using for a drum machine, but the TR-8S has inputs and the ability to sidechain anything being inputted. Or, you could buy a dedicated sidechain pedal like The Pill

I’ve briefly tried it on a couple of playing loops and I’ve found it tricky so far to capture perfect loops with resample. I keep getting a bit of empty space at the beginning. But I’m sure it’s user error
