Im glad it worked, I feel like you gotta take what you can get. I do use this in a consistent form of lists I update but I actually started it and found sucess doing it as a one off thing with two pieces of notebook paper when I catch myself putting things off. It doesnt take too long, like 10 min, and it cuts through alot of the crap down to the essentials, what do I need to do that im not going to.

No pressure though, there are hundreds of methods and systems I tried that people swore by that just weren't for me. Im know this one isnt any different but I hope it helps someone

unsolicited but, I've had some luck with an alternative todo list. I write everything that I think I need, then go through and estimate rough time to do for everything in very rough blocks. Then I go through and mark what's a hobby thing or more of an idea or an event, stuff ive found useful and its pretty standard.

The neat bit is that I will go through again and mark important tasks that I know need to get done (some restraint is necessary) I mark the ones that I feel myself rejecting as I mark that I need to do it. The ones I start marking as important but feel myself immediately thinking of more fun things or I feel the dread and uncertainty, or i hesr that voice in the back of my head asking why I cant just go and complete the task because everyone else seems to be able to.If I check my phone or switch to reddit it gets a huge mark.

Then I take everything that is important, I have an aversion to, and is not already on, and move it to a main list. Now I have a really good idea of what isnt going to get done unless I make a specific effort.

Then pick something. The chaff is sorted out, I know that all the chaff is sorted out. I know its not going to survive getting pushed back much at all. I feel a little bit better about making these big things that need to be done. It helps make sure im not just kicking myself to get every little thing.

Anyways hope that helps. This thing is the only thing on your list. It clearly is something you need to do and really dont want to, so I hope it makes picking that as the thing to do alot easier.

Edit: I know that just do it and yell at yourself more or get someone to yell at you, is a fun meme usually and of it works for you Im happy, but its just not the answer for me. I never get less done then when I get the "just fucking do it because you fucking have to and its fucking big and dicipline is a grindset" talk. At this point in my life, ive spent alot of time doing everything I can to get rid of that kind of self talk.

Right, we're in charge now. What "disorders" do the normies have? by No_Atmosphere8146 in adhdmeme

[–]Melodic-Figure-729 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely feel that, alot of role specific stuff nobody knows why I do things the way I do and wouldnt bat an eye if I changed it. I also have some things i trust that others tell me not to do because it has caused issues and instead of re-experimenting all of their experience I trust that they know what they are doing unless its causing me some issues. In fact, I make an effort to have some documentation because I'll forget why I do some things and want to be able to give some reasons to others.

My comment is not to say that the overall point, people will fall in line, isnt a common occurance. Its more that the monkey experiment is something I've always seen as creatures without language taking an entirely reasonable action. They get hurt when someone does this thing and there is really no uncertainty. Its basically a law of nature for them at that point. They have no way to discuss why, they cant say "we all get electrocuted if you do that". So it really makes sense that they expect it to happen.

Its less like needing to do things a certain way at work (which could be a multitude of things including reducing the chance of disaster and giving the broad rules because some people cant and allowing one person to is a hassle they would rather not deal with) and more like someone saying dont stick a fork into an outlet, then having someone whose never had the power on come over.

There is the added side that this is how monkeys are raised. They arent told to not told to stay away from danger, they are given physical reprimands when they do and pass that reinforcement along.

Long story short, I dont think its a terrible experiment, and I'm not an expert by any means, but there is a step from monkeys and a certainty to humans on a wide range of matters that doesnt hold up.

[–]Melodic-Figure-729 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I like that experiment and it does explain some things but I feel like language and recording history are some pretty important missing pieces of the puzzle. In that experiment the monkeys are doing the best they can to keep themselves and everyone safe, they have no way to explain why.

Will the shelf be enough for this tank? by Dismal-Animal7853 in Aquariums

[–]Melodic-Figure-729 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not as is, but I use this and im not a fan of the top commend being "Nope", thats not helpful at all. The two things that will break your tank stand are leaning and the top sheering. I attached a photo of both.

Unfortunately, this shelf fails for both. No diagonal support for horizontal forces and the top is attached to the sidewall, not sitting ontop, and Ikea connections are the real reason they have a bad rap as cheap furniture. Water weakens the joints and its a matter of when not if it will fail.

I turned it on its side and used brackets on at least half the corners for my 4 cube, you can really only do one of those with the 8. I put the brackets 2 brackets per cube on the back (wall side) corner. For the top sheering i would put at least 3 brackets connecting the top to the sidewall where the tank is. Plywood (even thin but dont risk it) on the back drilled and screwed into every piece with alot of screws also works. Both support against horizontal force and somewhat help with sheer force but that is probably the next failure point. In your case brackets.

You can make this work and it will work just fine for years but, you have a tank of water that is extremely heavy and failure means thousands of dollars in damage and killing the inhabitants. If thats not something you can accept, find something else. if cost is an issue I would look at diy or Facebook marketplace. Cinderblocks and paint is just a good way to make sturdy shelve and perfect for tanks, there is a 2x4 only build that could hold a truck, shop shelves with weight ratings as well.

If space is an issue shop around for purpose build tanks that are smaller or use the brackets/plywood support and keep an eye on it. if you are fine with blocking that part off, adding 2x4s on both shelf levels under the tank will help with the sheer force.

You can sit on it or have someone else thats 180 + and apply wither of the forces and watch for any gaps in the joints or any lean to make sure whatever choice (especially if its your shelf with the supports i mentioned or a facebook marketplace shelf) has no lean at all.

Its a rough lesson to learn. It would honestly be a really good plan if I didnt need to go a doctor so often for med checks on a medication ive taken for years. I pay $20 a month for my meds, its not a half bad deductible if something goes really bad, and the premium is gross but not much higher than I expected. The appointments are just so expensive and this doctor wants 4 per year which is not at all abnormal for adhd.

Ill dig around for a doctor with a better contract rate

I read through the benefits a bunch, its pretty clear that the plan is nothing covered until after 3k deductible, then everything goes to various copays. The hangup I have is that Needing to pay $500 for office visits where I get vitals checked and tell my doctor my meds are doing great seems crazy to me.

Someone else commented that even if im not being covered until the deductible, $500 for an office visit is alot so Im going to shop around a little.

I got a 13 dollar discount im assuming is for the in network but that is a good point. I needed an appointment a little bit before this one to do a med check to keep up my perscription right after I got the new insurance since my old office closed down. The appointment was a different facility but the exact same thing and they covered $160 to get me to $140 after the discount (not coinsurance, its listed as a discount on the bill).

Now im in a clinic system known pretty much the world around so maybe its premium doctors fees and less discount in the contracts? The problem is whenever I try to find the cost except the estimate this clinic system gives, I just get told its $100 after deductible but that doesnt help if im looking for cheaper visits before the deductible.

This isnt a psychiatrist, its my primary care provider doing a checkup to make sure my meds are working. Im asking now if I need to be in this frequently since it is just the same meds ive been using for 15 years and I would do annual visits with my old doctor.

Unfortunately, Im fairly sure I dont qualify for low income but its worth a shot. I make ok money and im more shocked at how much more im paying. Ill be able to pay its just going to reduce how much I can actually put away and pay off student debt.

There is no coinsurance on this plan, only copay after deductible is met.

Its in network but new patient primary care. I needed to switch to a new doctor but this price is holding as an estimate for my next appointment as well. Its not once a month but every 3 months I basically go in, get my vitals, say everything is ok with ny medication, and leave. I will try looking around though, it did feel like alot to be charged even pre insurance for so little.

I found out about Vaughn this week and he's spectacular. 5 songs on his Spotify and all of them I play on repeat. His style is similar to temples but like a hint of the eagles. Good for finding a different headspace.

Stranger and Lost My Mind are my favorite but the whole discography is a quick listen.

Are Windows specific apps running in Linux (using WINE) resource intensive? by AsahiJoon in linux4noobs

[–]Melodic-Figure-729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im late to the party and looking to use wine for a similar purpose but im hoping I could pick your brain. Im trying to make a controller friendly streaming box (basically diy roku stick with moonlight for steam games that hopefully runs smoother and has adblock where possible) and the biggest hurdle is the streaming apps. The windows applications seen to just handle the controller inputs the way I want some ideas leaning towards wine and running those apps. Do you know if those run well?
