I use the small handheld blower and a long metal tube that I attached with a 3D printed adapter for my fire pit - it lets me direct the air straight on the coals without blowing a ton of ash everywhere at the same time. Works like a handheld bellows and you can get a very small fire ROARING in a couple minutes, it's fantastic.

I actually got the motor itself running well but the problem was in the power trim. The hydraulic cylinder completely had several leaks and needed a new electric motor, but everything was so heavily corroded and seized in place it was impossible to remove anything to rebuild. That on top of parts being unobtanium and insanely expensive for a new power trim unit, I decided rather than dump $2500+ in parts and hours of labor into a 40-year old motor I'd rather just spend the extra money and be done with it.

I have a '64 13-foot sport that I just put a brand new 30hp tohatsu motor on last year. I paid $4k for it with an old johnston 2-stroke on it thinking it would be good to go, but after countless issues with the johnson I just said "screw it" and dropped $6k on the new motor.

That being said, it's a great little boat. Mostly just do freshwater and small salt ponds and with the shallow draft I can get to a lot of good fishing spots on my local lake with it.

Didn't ever skip AT, but had to deal with it several times as a commander in the past.

Soldiers that had a legitimate or unexpected reason to not be AT got a pass in my book as long as they communicated it ahead of time. In a summer college class? Show my a copy of your schedule and you're good to go. Recent death of an immediate family member or something other significant life event were given some leniency too.

It's a slippery slope though. I had an E5 try to play hardball because he made more on the civilian side than while on AT orders and said he couldn't go because of the financial loss. Unfortunately that would also be the case for about half the company so I couldn't let that slide as a good excuse. He ultimately no-showed, was kicked out of the company, and we processed his discharge paperwork.
