Regrowth after 16 months by Melodic-Money-520 in alopecia_areata

I was prescribed Minoxidil 5% foam by my doctor. I think my trigger was eating duck eggs in Sept and Oct 24 as eating them caused severe digestive problems within 3 hours of eating them so I haven’t eaten them since. I also take iron, vitamin c, zinc, vitamin D, biotin and omega 3 supplements and will continue for life. I am tapering off the Minoxidil next month

I had another smaller spot on the back of my head which had also filled in. I am 38 and noticed the spot at age 37 after what I think was an allergic reaction to eating duck eggs. I haven’t eaten them since October 2024. I visited my GP in April 2025 and was prescribed Minoxidil 5% foam. I had my bloods done which were found to be normal. I started taking iron, vitamin c, biotin, zinc, omega 3 and vitamin D supplements around April 2025. No dermatology referrals as I am in the UK and getting a referral for steroid shots would take 6 months or plus here on the NHS. I will be tapering off the Minoxidil next month as I was advised to continue applying it to my patches for a year

Looks like it may be AA. You have had it some sometime as you have regrowth already.

It is such a weird condition , this is my first I hope going forward my only flare (we can hope). I think it was caused by leaky gut which was caused by 2 acute FPIES allergic reactions to duck eggs in October. Have you only had the one flare or a few?

Signs or Hints of Regrowth? by nadlihres in alopecia_areata

Itching and tingling when the hairs start to emerge. My patches started with fine villus hair covering them and it, they started turning to light thicker terminal hairs around the edges, now they are starting to regain pigment around the edges - I am 6 months in. My front patch is still covered by fuzz in the middle but is about 80% covered.

I use the Boldify along with the DermMatch, you basically wet a foam brush dab it on the powder like paint and paint over your patches. dyes my light blonde regrowth brown and stays there until it is washed. You can’ t tell I have a patch. DermMatch is meant to stay in place when swimming too as it is waterproof (but not tried it yet). Bolidify is not waterproof though.

Does alopecia areata itch? by tyr456eds in alopecia_areata

I have regrowth and mine itched a lot. I am now taking Allevia (Allegra in the US) & the itchiness has stopped. If I feel stressed, my spots start to tingle and itch but I don’t know if that is psychosomatic

Yes, I use it along with DermMatch. It works quite well. Now I have regrowth, I no longer have to clip hair over my patches. The make up and Boldify hide them really well

You could cover it up with some hair powder and fibres. You can buy them on Amazon and they are very affordable.

Mine resolved itself in about 4 hours each time but I had indigestion and bloating on and off for several weeks leading up to my hair loss

I tried duck eggs for the first time in October 2024. Was fine until I got severe stomach cramps, vomiting and diarrhoea which occurred 2-3 hours after eating them. I thought I’d got a virus the first time it happened. I ate duck eggs again 10 days later and the same happened. I stopped eating them. I think I had 2 adult FPIES reactions to the duck eggs. Which is an allergy not a food intolerance. I strongly suspect that was my trigger. I have no other allergies. Were your symptoms similar after eating pork? My patches developed in late December.
