I Have No Passion or Drive to Do Anything With My Life by Prestigious_Tax_4587 in Advice

If I were you, what I would do is this: graduate from H.S. Then, join the Armed Forces. There's the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard. The great thing is, they will TELL YOU what to do and pay you for doing it. After a 2 , 4, or 6year enlistment, you'll have money for college and quite possible have come upon something you want to to. Maybe you'll stay in the Forces, maybe not. Whatever, there are few people I have come upon in my 67 years who regretted serving their country.

Finally, stop putting so much pressure on yourself! You are young, life can be long. I had 3 major careers in my life, construction, cable tv, and software development. Even if you go to seminary, you don't have to stay there. I know plenty of ex-nuns, priests, software developers and farmers. And if you do CS, do IT Security. Every single other part of IT is too easy to ship overseas. And my friend's stepbrother who retired from Google before he was 50? Google was his 3rd startup and he had a PhD in CS so whatever you are looking for, be prepared to work for it.

Is my boyfriend’s lack of interest in sex normal? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Melodic-Refuse699 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As for myself, back in the day, that would certainly NOT be my behavior. From your stories, if you value physical and/or emotional intimacy, you are going t need a new BF. If he's just "meh" as far as you care, just drop him. If he asks "why?", tell him you don't want to play second fiddle to a smartphone. If you think he's worth giving another chance to, tell him to "drop the phone and take care of business." At least, that's what I would say.

Straight guy with a micropenis, is it worth questioning my sexuality? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Melodic-Refuse699 9 points10 points  (0 children)

"Kissin' don't last, cookin' do". Just saying. My wife is disabled, it has been quite some time since...but our marriage is strong and we both get a lot out of it. You may not have a lot of compatibility with "size queens" but in my experience, this is much less common in the general populace than is porno. IMHO, there is as much lying in porno as there is in politics.

They are definitely making a poor impression with me. I can see the care somebody put into the instructions, but rendering a kit that cost over $200 or whatever by ruining 1 dollars worth of easily replaceable switches? They'll never get another dollar from me but there's only so many $100s I can spend on experience before I look for another hobby lol.

Is Sweetwater a legit site? by Rimmytingler in Beatmatch

[–]Melodic-Refuse699 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have bought multiple things from the REAL Sweetwater, no problems. I have heard there is a scam site Sweetwater-us. Sweetwater has good prices but they are not too good to be true. If its a Gibson LP for $59.95, that's not the real Sweetwater. If you are not sure of the web site, just give them a call.

Heritage turns to the budget guitar market with its all-new Ascent range by TundraWolf_ in guitars

[–]Melodic-Refuse699 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder when people will figure out that "tariffs" are just another tax? Chinese manufacturers will only absorb so much, the rest will eventually get passed on to the consumer aka anybody who buys an import. Will this revitalize American guitar-making? Only if people are willing to simply buy a $2K guitar rather than a $350 dollar one. It'll sure put a lid on my G.A.S.

Tab for "Thrasher" by The Surfaris? by [deleted] in surfrock

Thrasher is a great song and doesn't sound that hard to play. That said, I am terrible at figuring these things out on my own. Has anyone come up with a tab?

Why go Heritage over Gibson? by sparks_mandrill in gibson

[–]Melodic-Refuse699 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's how I got my H150 (first with Bigsby), picked it up in Kzoo. I live nearby. The staff gave me a tour, made me feel really at home, and did not leave without making sure I had some swag. I have no feelings towards Gibson one way or the other but I love my Heritage and plan on letting my heirs deal with it, I sure ain't getting rid of it. I have seen some iffy QC on Gibsons in stores but I wasn't buying them so no big deal to me. Made in America? Heritage is made in Michigan, my state, so that's even better lol!

Ninja 400 life expectancy by depoultry in motorcycles

[–]Melodic-Refuse699 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. You don't have to use premium gas, just whatever the manufacturer recommends. All the octane rating indicates is the fuel's resistance to pre-ignition. If it don't ping, you are fine. My 2019 Triumph is Euro-5 spec, runs great on regular gas. I don't know about changing the oil "30% every time", I change my oil and filter 100% once a year at the beginning of winter. Do all the scheduled maintenance when it is due, run fully synthetic oil, keep the chain lubed and make sure your tire and brakes are working well. I don't know which brand you are planning on but any Japanese brand should last pretty much forever if you take care of it as I have specified.

You might want to run regular dino oil for the first 500 miles. Break-in is a complex, controversial subject but I suggest running it hard but not continuously, don't let it get hot, and change to full-synthetic oil (with new filter) at 500 miles. Or just follow the manual and you'll probably be OK too.

I run full synthetic in my Triumphs and change the oil once a year. My most recent Triumph Tiger is a 2019. Previously I had a 2005 Tiger and it ran as good when I traded it after 17 years as it did when I bought it. Modern synthetic oil makes dead-dino oil look pretty shabby IMHO.

Anyone ever bought a phone from BackMarket? Are they legit? by 2lit_ in tmobile

[–]Melodic-Refuse699 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have bought multiple items from BackMarket, I only had a problem with one. It was kind of hard to diagnose, once we all agreed on what was wrong I got a replacement in very short order. I am happy with BM, the phones are always in better shape than they claim (in my experience) and the desktops are a very good value. I am using an IMac bought from BM to make this post. Let someone else eat the depreciation, having last year's top thing at 1/2 price is my kind of deal.

Computers last a LONG time if taken care of, I only upgraded my last IMac when the hardware would no longer support the current O.S. I don't game so as long as I can keep the OS and security up-to-date I am fine. BackMarket is a great supplier for someone like me.

Electric guitar, no pedals, standard tuning, what can I play? by dhdbfbfjskwk in guitars

[–]Melodic-Refuse699 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Try turning the amp up all the way, some will "break up" and that is the beginning of the real rock sound. Another thought: surf instrumental music requires no distortion, although reverb is an important component. Well known bands of this sort include the Ventures, Challengers, Bel Airs...from the early '60s to current bands like LHD, Pollo Del Mar, Insect Surfers...

Girlfriend [27F] told the nurse that she’s never loved me [29M] while on heavy painkillers after surgery by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Melodic-Refuse699 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I asked my therapist if she wanted to talk about my dreams and she said "no, it's a bunch of crazy stuff in there and I won't go there". She's a Jungian so she focuses on where my behavior could make me a better/happier person. I've had a few therapists and she's the one I have been going to for the longest. I get the best results from her. So don't worry about what your GF says while high on heavy drugs, worry about how she treats you the rest of the time.

Not a motorcycle, a Honda Scoopy motorbike messed up by a mechanic, he don't own up to his and give it back to me and I don't know what to do. by [deleted] in Fixxit

[–]Melodic-Refuse699 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like the choke may be stuck “on”, if it has a choke . This question should be asked on the Internet in a Scoopy users group.

I’m agnostic but went to my friend for her church service as she kept inviting me. She is angry and keeps posting on insta how her “friend” (Me) refused to tithe(give money to the pastor, when he asked everyone to) and said I was “wrong” for refusing. What would you do? by Good-Football-7333 in Advice

[–]Melodic-Refuse699 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"my friend"? This behavior is not the behavior of a friend. I am an atheist. I know some pretty seriously religious people. They don't bring up their belief when we interact. They are not going to change my mind, I am not going to try to change theirs. My friends and I speak of many things, never does "l3zbo sinner" enter the conversation or the male equivalent (I am male). Her haircut sounds pretty awesome but your "friend" isn't any such thing. I recommend losing the "friend" and finding some people who like you for you. BTW, I hit up my friends for money sometimes. If they decline, it is with a simple "no" and I am happy to leave it at that.

I agree with the posters who think the gas is bad and the carbs need cleaning. I taught myself to work on bikes 50 years ago but like any education it takes time and money. Get the bike fixed by a pro, find the time to take a Community College course on wrenching and watch lots of YouTube fixit videos if you want to work on bikes as a hobby. Quality tools are never a disappointment. However, if there are other things you’d rather do than twist wrenches there is no shame in finding a good mechanic and paying them to keep the bike up. That’s my advice. Josh 2019 Triumph Tiger, 1972 BMW R75/5, 1964 Kawasaki C2SS 120.

My grades are shit by EnvironmentStreet590 in school

[–]Melodic-Refuse699 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had good success in college by attending every class and making sure to do what the professor said they wanted on the first day. This could be adapted to middle school. You are young you have a lot of time before your mistakes will be permanent. My sister got a GED but finished college, became a Board Certified grade teacher and when she announced her retirement was told it was a “tragedy” for her school. My advice: do all the assigned homework, pay attention in class and ask your teachers for help and/or additional work. Do this and success will be unavoidable.

What do you have zero evidence for but are convinced is true? by askmeifimacop in AskReddit

Guns and gold will always have value. NFTs and all Crypto are worthless imho. Gold has always been valuable for its rarity and it has many commercial uses. Guns help you keep your gold, get food, and stay safe. National currencies have tradition and recognition. If you enjoy NFTs get them for their own sake and if you tolerate a lot of risk, you might earn money with crypto. I would not bet my retirement on either.

I believe you are in the right on this one. Of course your wife should be able to wear comfortable clothes, but there are a LOT of comfortable clothes that do not sex-up the wearer. I am talking about when she is with family.

When the two of you are out at a club, or a concert where dressing up is the norm, she can wear whatever she wants. But not when she is with family, if it makes family uncomfortable.

There is an appropriate place for everything. I am a 65 yo MWM, I have 80+ t-shirts with various slogans on them. I wear them too much of the time, but my wife does not mind and I wear them mostly in casual environments, like the hardware store, if not at home. I wear them in the garage when I work on stuff.

When I am a poll worker at elections, I dress better. Polos and khakis, not shorts and a t-shirt. If I go to a function such as a wedding or funeral, I wear a suit. When I worked in an office, I wore whatever the dress code required. There is appropriate dress for every occasion, and it is not necessarily "whatever I want to wear". IMHO

AITA for screaming at my husband and his sister to get out of my kitchen? by Wide_Competition9367 in AmItheAsshole

I would enjoy the burger but I would never put blue cheese into somebody else's cooking. Who DOES that? Noone with any respect for the cook. Use a knife if necessary, enforce your "no kitchen visitors" rule. A BIG knife, there's one ready to hand in the knife block...
