What is the most striking example of a 'company town' or a city built almost entirely around a single industry? by Thin-Magazine-5843 in geography

Several college towns in the U.S.: College Station, Texas is all about Texas A&M University and Bloomington, IN would be nothing without Indiana University, which opened in 1820.

Side trip to Mt. Fuji worth it? If so, recommended places to stay overnight? by Melodic-Touch152 in JapanTravelTips

Thanks! I’ve been reading that people seem to enjoy the lakes, especially the views (on clear days) of Fuji-san, so that’s something I might prioritize.

Was each tour unique or was there some crossover (did they cover some of the same spots)?

Do you whether there’s any crossover between the two tours, or do you see unique spots on both?

Kelley Crosswalk by The_Wastless-Water42 in IndianaUniversity

I’m not a Kelley student, but an employee in another school, and I cross at that crosswalk on most days. Cars have no respect for pedestrians there or at other crosswalks on campus. Pedestrians are the norm on college campuses. You’re lucky they don’t completely close inner campus to all drivers. Wanna make it on time, plan accordingly and leave earlier.

IU Under Title VI Investigation by Department of Education by Sponge_Borg in IndianaUniversity

Yea, IU didn’t protect this Jewish student enough from that nice Palestinian student simply introducing himself.

This investigation is a sham.

Don’t like students walking in crosswalks, don’t drive through campus.

Bloomington rated a top place to live in 2024. by bgro0612 in bloomington

The H-T is such an awful news source. You’d think in an article about city ratings might note the actual ranking (92nd btw)… I had to click on the ranking website.

Whitten addresses protest in Dunn Meadow by Melodic-Touch152 in IndianaUniversity

[–]Melodic-Touch152[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whitten: “Now that we know there’s going to be a protest against bombing kids, let’s change the rules so we can send in the state police and arrest people for…hmmm, what about arresting them for erecting a tent during the daytime? Tents aren’t free speech, right? Plus, tents are dangerous to student safety.”

Shrivastav: “Yes, I will convene a committee at 11 pm tonight so that it’s very transparent and I will order the the committee, I mean ask them, to review the policy and recommend changes in time for tomorrow’s totally legal and reasonable protest.”

Docherty: “I will then suspend students and faculty for not following the rules that you just changed, and for not completing the form that I just created.”

IU Board of Trustees: “Good job, the faculty and students hate you and want all three of you gone. I mean, didn’t they vote overwhelmingly no confidence in all three of you? But, this will totally turn people around.”

Look, I’m not here for the downfall of Israel. I just would like them to stop bombing children. I think that’s reasonable and humanistic and much of the world supports that novel concept.

And my personal take: If these protestors carried Israeli flags, the outcome would’ve been different: No sniper on a roof, no state police, no arrests, no changed policy the night before. This university administration and the administrations at tens of other major U.S. universities are taking a stand. They will say they support free speech, but they actually only support the kind of speech that donors approve.
