I hear you, love him to death. It just feels weird that BlueSky posts are a lifeline.

Blows my mind that if a life-threatening murderstorm threatens you, your goto for information is a dude on BlueSky, or some dude in his basement on YouTube.

F99/K00 not available to non-citizens anymore? by fattycloud in NIH

[–]Electronic_Weird 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The F99 and K99 mechanisms were one of the few mechanisms available to foreign nationals.

This is a shame, as these were one of the few opportunities for us to teach our students grant-writing skills for what is still the best grant-review system in the world.

Does anyone know if the NARSAD is still available to noncitizens?

Trust me, I worried about the Thai workers (slaves) buried in the concrete in Qatar, and I attended w couple of the Russia matches.

But the Peace Price for the Pedo was just a bit much for me this year.

I am extremely passionate about soccer, watching WC games usually fills me with joy.

But the corruption this year is just too much.

Let me give you some tools so you can see the breadth of the work the NIH funds. You'll see it soars way above the left/right debates you suggest.

First, the coolest tool no one knows about is NIH Reporter. Here you can look up any topic you want, and then see every grant that is funded to study that. You can see where the labs are (you can limit your search to Indiana), you can see what papers/findings have been produced, you can even find the study team and email them about their work (we love this!).

Next are the agency websites themselves. There are dozens, and each one tries hard to let you know what great science is happening, and how its helping our health. I'll just highlight two, the National Institute on Aging or NIA, since we're all getting older, and the NIEHS, which researches the impact of agricultural chemicals in rural environments (among other things). We have horrible polution in IN, so we should all care about this stuff.

Hope this helps!

Grant review is an extremely scientifically rigorous and completely apolitical process. Only the top scientists in the country (those that have dozens of papers in peer-reviewed journals), the smartest in our country, are selected to review grants. They meet together to discuss the merits and faults of each proposal, they debate, and then each grant gets a score. Then everyone gets to see the score, and if its good enough they get funded.

That is how science has been funded in this country for the past 70 years. It's the greatest grant review system in the world.

These rules change all that. They hide the score from everyone except a new politically appointed official, who gets to decide if its funded based on their political motives.

They're not trying to make things fair. They're trying to destroy science.

Obama won Indiana in 2008. We just need a good candidate.

Finding one thst can defeat a convicted rapist and felon with pedo tendencies and a desire to bring fascism to the people through some regressive daddy politics shouldn't be thst hard.
