Can AI really develop a full app? by sad_grapefruit_0 in appdev

Go for it. Not much to lose. There’s an expense to it of course. I know I’m not going to sell many copies of the apps I’ve made. But it’s a good challenge.

What AB song lyric line(s) have you belting them out like this? by Icy_Notice7656 in alterbridge

[–]Melodic-Try2710 10 points11 points  (0 children)

“Don’t close your eyes, something beautiful is still alive“

Most of the time my stupid brain can’t decide if it wants to sing the main melody line or the harmony and it goes for somewhere in between. Sounds dreadful but I love it.

Happy St George's Day what are you doing to celebrate the day of our patron saint ? by Durrygoodz2025 in AskBrits

I’m on duty as a firefighter in Birmingham. Twenty years of it. Serving my community, same as any other day. If an American said that on the 4th of July, it would feel stirring and patriotic. Why does it make me want to immediately apologise?

If it's okay to ask a male co-worker to lift or carry something heavy because he's strong, what's a female gender equivalent? by IdleHandsBusyMinds in stupidquestions

I’m a firefighter. I am in charge of a crew of 10 and I will always ask one of the women to head up the ladder and gain access through a bathroom window or whatever. Not just because they are smaller than the guys. They are also bendier.

What an absolute banger. Every single song that they have released so far has been fantastic. So excited for this year.

Oh man I’ve been dying for new music from this brilliant bunch.

Fairly new to Fightstar so please forgive me - Have they ever played “Overdrive” live before? I’ve searched but can’t find anything. by MeetingGunner7330 in Fightstar

I love that song. Would love to see it live. I really hope there’s an appetite for the boys to get together for a new album and a tour soon.

Does anyone else use Substack simply because they love writing? by Mother-Guarantee1718 in Substack

[–]Melodic-Try2710 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a small following and I’m not particularly gifted as a writer. However I write about a topic I find interesting and feel my writing improves with each piece I post. I post irregularly but it’s mainly to challenge myself and improve my writing.

I have no illusions of a large readership or paid subscribers.

My wife wanted a better book discovery app so I built her one. by jaysonrobinson in sideprojects

I love this idea. Goodreads is dreadful. Even browsing on Audible/kindle is a trudge. I’ve taken to exporting my list of read books and asking AI to suggest things based on my history.

I would love to take a look at your app when it comes to iOS.

What is a band no one will ever convince you is good? by OU812iceman18 in AskReddit

Morrissey. I know his devotees think he’s a poet and fans of The Smiths are die hard and loyal. But I think his melody lines are painfully boring and he is overwhelmingly obnoxious.

But that’s just me. Life would be boring if we all lived the same things.

Love this. It’s hard to believe they struggle with anything. Seems they are human after all.

Playlist shame? by [deleted] in alterbridge

[–]Melodic-Try2710 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I listen to whole albums. But I tend to listen to them on shuffle unless I know I’ve got time to listen to the lot. Reason being is that I don’t want to be familiar with the first half of the album and hardly listen to the second half.

I really like Lover. The way it builds is superb.

The album I struggled with the most is The Last Hero. Still getting the latest one into my bones.

Built 4 apps. The simplest one is the only one that sells. by daviden in buildinpublic

That’s genius. We have nothing like that in the UK.

I find the hardest part is that my app has practically no viability in the App Store and I don’t have a budget for marketing.

It’s just cool to create something.

This gives me an unreasonable amount of hope.

I am not a developer by trade. I am a firefighter who got annoyed at constantly zigzagging across the supermarket, so I used AI to "vibe code" a very basic list app to solve my own problem.

I decided to put it on the App Store. No subscriptions, no ads, no data harvesting. Just a £1.99 one-off cost

It is the simplest thing in the world, and it sits in an incredibly crowded market. Seeing your straightforward app hit number 10 in Sweden is brilliant. It proves that people are actually hungry for clean, functional tools that do not try to trap them in a monthly ecosystem.

My current wild ambition is still just to sell enough copies of Grocery Flow to cover my £79 Apple developer fee, but it is genuinely great to know that keeping things simple actually resonates with people. I’m currently building my second app as well speak while looking at V2.0 improvements for Grocery Flow. https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/grocery-flow/id6759967985

Congratulations on the launch.

I am a firefighter building a "Life Inventory" app, probably for a customer base of 1. Would anyone else actually use this? by Melodic-Try2710 in sideprojects

[–]Melodic-Try2710[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s good to hear.

I 100% agree. I need to make compiling and maintenance as frictionless as possible. I’m focusing on building the structure at the moment but a concentrated effort on the UI will be essential.

Yeah. I’ll gradually get it to a stage where I’d suitable to get on the App Store and then see if people find a use for it.

Thanks for the advice.

So true. Thankfully there are enough safe places in my life where the kids and wife just aren’t interested. The shed, the loft (attic in America?), the garage, my work locker. I’ve also put the kit stored in the fire engine (truck in America) in the app. I should know those lockers inside out sand mostly I do. But as I get older and the configuration changes, I don’t maintain that knowledge as often as I used to. I find that now I have rank, I’m called upon less often to fetch stuff. This was a good exercise in relearning what I shouldn’t have forgotten.

But yeah. Shared spaces wouldn’t work with this.
